Tri-Corder Project

Interesting little project that came across the Amahi IRC chat room... Runs Debian Linux:

http://www.tricorderproject.org/tricorder-mark2.html

I read through the Mark 2 page and found a lot of interesting detail on the founder's thoughts and concerns on making this a viable product.

Possible KCLUG at Maker Faire KC

Since ITEC doesn't seem to be coming back, would anyone be interested
in a boot at the KC Maker Faire?

Re: Possible KCLUG at Maker Faire KC

There's been some interest, but not enough to man a booth. We could
share a boot with another or a few like groups.

Multi-list message:
Can CCCKC help out KCLUG with a presence at Maker Faire? I know there were plans to make and give out CDs of software. Maybe we could bring both groups together to help with the software side of the CCCKC booth or somehing?

Jon.

Multiple booths of associated groups is a good idea. Better than a large variety of groups trying to work in one booth. The guys I mentioned would be good to contact in any case. They can help with questions and smooth out any needs. It'll help the booth to have sympathetic people working in the Faire.

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, Precise Pangolin, full release available today

Just got the distribution upgrade notice in Update Manager today. All download files are available now. I usually download one of the installation CDs or DVDs instead of upgrading online.

I use this mirror:
http://mirror.mcs.anl.gov/pub/ubuntu-iso/CDs-Ubuntu/precise/
(Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago, IL)

I managed to get the whole 64-bit trial version CD before I could finish pulling together this announcement, getting about 90% my full capability, up to 1.3 MB/sec over 12 mb/sec vdsl.

Don't forget to use bit torrent if your subscription's monthly data quota isn't capped. i.e., AT&T Uverse and AT&T DSL.

Download also available , probably really slow for now (if a connection can even be made), at:
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/

Main web site provides download links to many more download options

I grabbed the torrent of UbuntuStudio this morning. Will likely host it out for two weeks before stopping the torrent.

Alternatively, you can try using http://ubuntu.osuosl.org/

IIRC, we've got regional mirrors in Corvallis, Chicago and NYC, and I2
connectivity (for those on university networks).

I have a server in Downtown KC that has
ubuntu-12.04-alternate-amd64.iso, ubuntu-12.04-alternate-i386.iso,
ubuntu-12.04-desktop-amd64.iso, ubuntu-12.04-desktop-i386.iso,
ubuntu-12.04-server-amd64.iso, and ubuntu-12.04-server-i386.iso

It is at http://server1.judgementgaming.net/

The files will be removed in a week or two.
