MySql Bug

Hi All,
I am facing a problem in MySql that even if i set 'NOT NULL' constraint
while creating a table, mysql allows null values in the database. Is it
true with every mysql distribution or is an error in my server? I have
searched on internet and found that many people have reported this thing as
a bug. Can somebody suggest me something fruitful?

Searchable PDF/A files

PDF/A has been developed as an open standard ( ISO:19005 ) with an
objective for long term storage and archiving of documents. Such
archived documents would have immense value if the content therein is
searchable. I understand there are a number of solutions available to
generate PDF/A documents. Noteable solutions in the FOSS world:
LibreOffice can export documents in PDF/A-1a format, iText Library in
Jasper reports can also produce PDF/A compliant PDF documents.

Recently, HP Multi Function Printers: HP MFP 4555 have started giving
option to scan to PDF/A. However, these scanned files are image PDFs
and are not searchable. I am looking for a method to convert such
image based PDF/A compliant PDF files to searchable PDF files so that
when these documents are stored in a Document Management system, these
files will become very valuable as the search can then be done on the
content of these scanned files.

Perhaps the scanned PDF/A files generated by HP MFP 4555's do not have
OCR'd text.

Tesseract has been one of the powerful OCR engines in the FOSS world.
Several addons for tesseract are also available at
http://code.google.com/p/tesseract-ocr/wiki/AddOns . But I am unable
to find if there is a way to generate text searchable PDF files using
tesseract with scanned PDF/A as input files.

Can any one share their experience in generating searchable text in
scanned PDF files??

Sorry, I was not clear in my description.

I am setting up iptables rules for the server that is the MTA.
What I wanted to have was SMTP input packets routed only to
the server, and SMTP output packets routed only from the server. I
know how to do that, but as the server IP is dynamic, it would
make life easier if there were no security issues, and I could
ignore source/destination packet routing.

Question about iptable rules for SMTP

Hi,

I have set up iptables rules to accept SMTP requests. Is there
a danger in not specifying a destination (source) for the
INPUT (OUTPUT) rules, i.e., could someone use this as an
open relay if I do not specify destination/source?

[Hardware] Config for Linux desktop

Hi All,

I am planning to buy 10 numbers of system for FOSS related free
education + lab setup.
Main purpose for buying these to enable students to work on FOSS (
mainly Linux Admin and programming ) topics.

Budget is really tight as all the money coming from my pocket. I was
thinking about below configuration.

1. AMD Athlon II X2 260 + Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P + HDD + 4 GB Ram

or

2. Intel Atom D525 based system.

Heard that Atom based system are not really facinating to work from
few users. Can someone throw light on this.
Also need your suggestion on the HW config and keep in mind that my
budget is really tight.
