Dictionary and lexicon projects

I am preparing a talk on the dictionary chapter which aims at
convincing some other communities (NLP, field linguistics) that the
TEI (with its customization facilities) should be used as a basis for
representing processable lexica. In this contaxt, I would very much
like to quote projects having used the dictionary chapter for machaine
processable lexica, with, when possible, an example of an encoded
entry.
Thanks in advance!
Laurent

Dictionary and lexicon projects

Dear Laurent,

 I would very much
like to quote projects having used the dictionary chapter for machaine
processable lexica, with, when possible,  an example of an encoded
entry.

We maintain a handful of glossaries for Buddhist Studies in TEI.
http://buddhistinformatics.ddbc.edu.tw/glossaries/
They all use the dictionary module. We are currently working on three more, so another visit of this URL in autumn might give more.

From the TEI source we produce outputs like StarDict dictionaries, or Plug-ins for a commercial software called Dr.Eye.

Hope this is useful
all the best

tei conformance: constraining allowed values of type attribute

In developing a TEI customization, I want to constrain the values
allowed on a type= attribute for a given element by using valList in my
ODD file. Would this break conformance to the TEI abstract model? It
seems to me that doing would require me to remove the given element from
att.typed and then use attDef to add an element called type which
behaves differently from the type attribute in att.typed. This all
sounds suspiciously non-conformant to me ...

I don't think this is breaking the TEI abstract model, as long as
the definition of the attribute you are providing is a subset of
allowed values and datatype of the original attribute. The
document would still validate against tei_all, right?

But I don't think you have to do delete it though, you just
change/replace the attribute rather than delete and re-add it. So
something like:

====
<elementSpect ident="bibl" mode="change">
<attList>
   <attDef ident="type" usage="req" mode="change">
    <gloss>type is required on bibl in this schema</gloss>
     <datatype>
        <rng:ref xmlns:rng="http://relaxng.org/ns/structure/1.0"
  name="datatype.Code"/>
      </datatype>
      <valList type="closed" mode="replace">
         <valItem ident="journalism">
             <gloss>A journalistic item</gloss>
          </valItem>
         <valItem ident="MS">
              <gloss>A manuscript</gloss>
         </valItem>
         <valItem ident="novel">
              <gloss>A novel</gloss>
          </valItem>
          <valItem ident="pamphlet">
              <gloss>A pamphlet</gloss>
            </valItem>
           <valItem ident="unknown">
              <gloss>Something unknown</gloss>
           </valItem>
         </valList>
        </attDef>
       </attList>
  </elementSpec>
====

Erm, but that is typed out from memory so not tested. (And I'm
not saying that this is a good use of <at> type on bibl.) Also some
of this might have changed with the newer modifications to ODD.

However, as that is a pure subset of what is allowed inside <at> type
normally, I don't think this has any effect on Conformance.

TEI Web site

Dear List:

The news about “Anthologize” made me wonder: is the TEI site WordPress or Drupal?  When did we switch, and are there xslts to make TEI documents into durpal or WordPress pages?

Re: TEI Web site

The content on www.tei-c.org is a composite of quite a few underlying
sources. To wit:

* Most of the content pages, such as those under Activities, Membership,
and About, live as mostly XML data in OpenCMS, a content management
system; our configuration converts TEI-XML to HTML on the fly

* The news sidebar on the main page and /News/ are pulled in
quasi-dynamically from content that lives in the TEI WordPress blog on
Sourceforge (http://sourceforge.net/apps/wordpress/tei/)

* Some areas of the site are simply filesystem mirrors of the current
TEI Sourceforge packages, e.g. the P4 and P5 Guidelines documentation
under /release, and Roma under /Roma

* Others are static filesystem directories with special material, such
as the "TEI Vault" (http://www.tei-c.org/Vault/)

* Yet others are pointers to TEI-related material hosted externally (the
TEI webstore at http://www.tei-shop.org/, the new TEI Journal aka J-TEI
site at http://journal.tei-c.org/)

All integrated via an Apache configuration file resembling the wiring
diagram of a nuclear submarine, and ably maintained by our sysadmin
Shayne Brandon.

updates to the TEI FAQ

Hi all,

In looking at the TEI FAQ at http://www.tei-c.org/About/faq.xml , I
realize this needs to be revised. As with the TEI bibliography, I'm
happy to gather revisions to this to submit to the TEI webmaster. So
far, here are things I know of that need to be changed:

1. Revise the answer to "Can I attend the annual members meeting even if
my institution is not a member?" to say that we charge even those from
member institutions.

2. Add a question and answer for "What is TEI Tite?", drawing the answer
from http://wiki.tei-c.org/index.php/TEI_Tite .

3. Add a question for "What is AccessTEI?" , with a brief answer
referring people to http://accesstei.apexcovantage.com/ for more
information.

Your questions and suggestions are welcome. I'll pull a new version
together after September 15 based on your comments.

Kevin

Yes, that's the plan.

Huh.  Thanks!
