“Learn Permaculture Design
 For Your Own Urban Organic Property”

This is a three-day workshop for people on smaller properties or small
holdings, who want to create a beautiful, ecologically balanced landscape
and an abundance of organic food.

Participants will learn to integrate the following into a typical
urban/suburban-sized section or a small holding:

•	Productive organic veggie gardens	
•	Fruit trees, herbs and flowers
•	Wildlife habitats
•	Kitchen micro-gardens
•	Children’s play spaces
•	Use of micro-climate
•	Quite areas for reflection and recharging
•	Integrated small animal systems

A fun and interactive workshop where participants will explore:

•	Permaculture principles
•	Permaculture design tools & strategies
•	Accessing local resources
•	Organic approach
•	Neighborhood community building

Je regrette - je ne parle pas beaucoup de Francais.
We are a local regional group working the Cascadia bioregion.
I can't speak for elsewhere but I agree, this kind of workshop would be
useful and well-recieved anywhere.

OUR Ecovillage

Aloha all,

I was recently on Vancouver Island briefly, at just the right time to get a
guided tour and Q&A session with one of the founders of OUR Ecovillage.

They have done amazing work, most notably (to my bureaucratophobic mind) in
that they have, through persistence and ongoing education of civil servants,
enabled the creation of a whole new zoning category very well suited to the
needs of ecovillages (as it ought to be, since they pretty much wrote it).

Besides that they've got the bureaucracy bought into cob, straw bale, round
wood and other hybrid natural building technologies, permaculture, etc. and
have got their larger community bought into what they're doing too.  They get
donations up the wazoo.  They even got government grants to work on getting
the government to appreciate and support lots of that stuff.

Plus they run some very exciting sounding learning opportunities in
permaculture, natural and alternative building, community-building, etc. with
all sorts of fun and interesting guest instructors/facilitators/etc.

His site and currently scheduled courses are in Northwestern Vermont, in
English, but he is Canadian, from Montreal, fluent in French and English and
might be quite excited to arrange a workshop in French...somewhere...he likes
to travel...

They include ecovillages as one form of IC...

Also look at self-definitions by existing ecovillages - some of the older/more
established ones have refined their information through their own praxis. 
Examples of communities that have been around for "a while" include OUR
Ecovillage, Crystal Waters, Earthaven, Sirius, Occidental Arts and Ecology
Center, ZEGG, Dancing Rabbit, Dreamtime, The Farm and so on.  There are
listings on the GEN site above.  I have some links on my Community resource

structure and process elements of the course that are (so far) unique to Green
Mountain course offerings.

Green Mountain Permaculture is also offering a Permaculture Design Practicum
course in late summer, August 28 - September 4

These courses are based on the Earthhaven model of offering the complete
Permaculture design curriculum in two separate sections, the Fundamentals
course and the Design Practicum course.

If you have already taken a Fundamentals course elsewhere, you are welcome to
complete your full permaculture design certificate curriculum at our
Permaculture Design Practicum August 28 - September 4.

If you have already taken a two-week intensive PDC and want to gain additional
design experience, you are also welcome to join the Design Practicum course.
