[ERPS] Gmane newsgroup created

I requested (and got) a newsgroup on Gmane for the list. The newsgroup is called gmane.technology.erps,
and the news server is news.gmane.org. Thought some people might like reading the mailing list via a news
server. This will probably be the very first message in the newsgroup :)

Check out www.gmane.org for information about Gmane. It's a bidirectional gateway, so you can post to the
list via the news server as well.

Well, this might be the second...

Need old mailing list archives

The new archive extends from September 2001. The old archive is in HTML format only, and stops at May 2000.
Can someone send me messages older than September 2001 in mbox format? Thanks.

Ok, digging through my own email I got back to October 6, 2000 (presumably when I first joined). So I just need
anything people have that's older than that. The other option is to write a script to convert the old HTML
archives, but I'm too lazy to do that.

List added to mail-archive.com

I just merged my old saved messages into the archive, and decided it might be nice to handle archiving
offsite. Gmane does this, but for people looking for a more "traditional" archive format, I subscribed
mail-archive.com as well.

I can get you the HTML format up to Oct 2001.

Some might well find this easier to read, but I would be loathe to give
up my local archiving of posts to the list -- which would be harder to
do (especially to do differently from the other newsgroups I read) on
nntp compared to mail.

OTOH, as long as the gateway works both ways, why not?

OT: Deals on electronic test equipment

Yesterday I discovered some used test equipment for sale at a place
called "Dot-Com Depot". I cannot vouch for the condition, except to say
that it appears clean and undamaged. But the prices are very
reasonable.

Here's what I saw (they may have more):

BK Precision 1635 DC power supply 1 ea.	$ 79
BK Precision 1646 DC power supply 2 ea.	$ 99
	Fluke 8010A DMM (no leads) 4 ea.	$ 39
	Kikisui 5060 60 MHz oscilloscope 2 ea.	$ 99
	Kikisui 5060 60 MHz oscilloscope 1 ea.	$129
	Leader 192A audio tester 1 ea.	$119
	Leader 1100 100 MHz oscilloscope 2 ea.	$179
	Leader LAT-45 audio attenuator 2 ea.	$ 29
	Leader LDC-822 counter 1 ea.	$ 59
	Philips PM6668 1 GHz high-res counter	1 ea.	$119
	Sencore PR570 transformer analyzer 1 ea.	$169
	Simpson 260 VOM (no leads) 2 ea.	$ 29
	Wavetek 134 sweep generator 1 ea.	$249

They also have some deals on hard disks -- their specialty -- too
numerous to list.

RE: OT: Deals on electronic test equipment

Rea;;y their prices aren't THAT reasonable...249$ for a 40gig firewire
hard drive? Pricewatch.com kills that off right there, plus they're
selling refurb stuff for new prices.

About the electronics hardware, I wouldn't trust Kikisui stuff. I've
actually used it in lab here in parallel with an HP (forget the model #,
but I could find out, it's a bit older so it's probably cheaper by now)
so that they are both reading the same voltage input while theoretically
looking at the transfer function and figuring out what it should be, and
it seems that the HP is much more accurate. Of course we also did tests
of the internal resistance of each, and the HP was much larger than the
Kikisui. You actually ideally want an infinite resistance so they it
will drop all the voltage that comes in so you don't let transients get
through to the ground end of the oscilloscope.

Like I said, if you want, I can find the model number of the HP. I've
also used some various wave generators that can do sin, square,
triangular, sawtooth, and noise, as well as DC power supplies, so I can
figure out what models the really nice ones we use in lab are. (I'm
going into my fourth year in electrical engineering).

FAA Approves Space Launch of the PRIMERA Rocket
May 30, 2002
Web posted at: 3:46 PM EDT

(ROL Newswire) -- Ky Michaelson's Civilian Space Exploration Team (CSXT) has
received official clearance from the FAA to conduct the space launch of the
PRIMERA rocket in June 2002.

The single stage PRIMERA rocket is complete and ready to fly. Weighing 550
lbs. at liftoff, the vehicle stands 17 ft. tall, 9" in diameter and is
expected to reach a peak altitude of 62 nautical miles. The 2 1/2 minute
flight into space will make history as the first civilian amateur to exceed
50 nautical miles (NASA's definition of space). The entire event will air on
national television as episode two of the two part series. Editing of
episode one titled "50 MILES UP: SPACE" is nearing completion and will
highlight the space flight attempt of September 29th, 2000.

The team is unable to announce the exact date of the launch due to an
agreement with various Government agencies and is only allowed to have a
specified number of spectators. Ky Michaelson would like to personally thank
all of the people who have made this launch possible. Watch the Rocketman
website at http://the-rocketman.com for further information.
