Looks can be deceiving; the story was delayed was because CNN's senior
producers wanted to run this piece after the Shuttle launch, and not
because of the Tumlinson interview.

Let's see ... come through re-entry base first, nose over and power
through the Jet Stream, nose up and return to base entry for landing.

Ah ... does a double death swoop sound ridiculously complex to anyone
other that me?? 8-)

As an alternative, simply angle the base so the first point of contact
isn't dead center. This will give you off-center flow around the shell
and aerodynamic lift (admittedly small, but some) around the cone. It
will require extra TPS on the side (or sides) of the cone you want to
use as the base of the lift surface, but it's MUCH easier on structure
loads that doing a bunch of 180's at high speed.

Great. We could do a lot more with $70 Million, but we could still do
a lot with $1.4 million. 8-)

The digest is just another list ... send email to <a href="mailto:server <at> LunaCity.com">server <at> LunaCity.com</a>
with the subject or text of the msg being:

	subscribe erps-list_digest

You may also want to send email to 'unsub erps-list' or you'll get
both.

I've just set my work address to the digest so I can see what is (or
isn't) happening with it.

Now be fair. It's only a death swoop if not pulling out of it kills
you. :-)

But yeah, the idea sounded strange and inefficient after I'd
thought about a while. Not enough to retract it without hard
numbers, but if we have a consensus, let's table it.

<<As an alternative, simply angle the base so the first point of

We may be saying the same thing - I propose a shape that gives
us some lift if we lean into the wind. What that shape would be, I
don't know.

Meeting Moved -> 08 Jun 99

Hi folks ...

Just to confirm what was mentioned previously ...

There will be NO meeting tonight.

This is a 'slip' week to bring us inline with the schedule that
Harry's has for us and to get us OFF the weeks the other group takes
the back room/

The next regular meeting will be 08 Jun 99 (ie next week).
