[Skate] Per Willy Guttormsen

Guttormsen skated 15.44.4, I believe, in Madonna di
Campiglio January 1968, setting a WR samalogue. But
some 13 seconds later in the same pair came Svein-Erik
Stiansen, beating the record ...

[Skate] "Youth" Ice Speed Skates

Hello everyone,

I have been skating on inline speed skates for a few months now. Up to now I had no plans of trying out ice, but
now the weather has changed, it has been very cold recently and the lakes are starting to freeze over here in
Germany.

Now I have found a cheap offer on ebay for ice speed skates: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Leder-Schlittschuhe-Eislauf-Speed-Skate-Eisschnelllauf-Retro-schwarz-NEU-/200704866961?pt=Schnee_Schlittschuhe&var=&hash=item746d0e8d4f

Do you know if they are any good? I can't find any information about this brand online.
Now, I am not ready to spend a considerable amount of money on equipment. At this price I think I will just give
it a shot.

Also, can you help me with the size? My inlines are size 42 (US 9.5), should I take the same size for the ice
skates or go one size up (I am going to wear thick socks in it)?

Thanks in advance for your help!
Julian

Re: [Skate] "Youth" Ice Speed Skates

Julian,

if you really want to enjoy iceskating my advice is to spend some more
money on skates than those advertised on Ebay. What you need is a pair of
solid boots that will fit your feet as thight as possible. Do not wear
thick socks in your iceskate boots. Everything between your skin and the
boot will give you less control over the skate. Most pro-skaters skate
barefoot as you may have noticed. In case you're not stable on the ankles
you might consider a pair of higher boots that will support the ankles.
Preferably buy your iceskates at a shop that has enough knowledge and
information to suit your needs.

[Skate] Re: Per Willy Guttormsen

I really had a hard time figuring this out. If they were in the same pair Stiansen could NOT beat Guttormsen at
10.000 coming 13 seconds later! Impossible.

But as no one protested I did some research. Stiansen is NOT on the list of 10.000 m world records, very
strange. But yes, "samalogue" is the key word, can even imagine what it is. Of course everybody else knew
it...or... So I found out but not going to tell.

all the best
Eiliv

Re: [Skate] dutch allround championships... what's at stake?

Ireen Wust and Linda de Vries are prequalified for the world
championships. Linda skates the nationals, Ireen doesn't.
So two spots left and Marrit Leenstra seems to be sure for one of them
leading by a margin after day 1.

Sven Kramer and Jan Blokhuijsen also prequalified and both skipping the
nationals (training in Inzell).
Two spots left for the WCh and Koen Verweij is leading after day 1, he
and Ted-Jan Bloemen en Ben Jongejan 2nd and 3rd.

[Skate] Canadian team for world junior championships

On the men's side, Laurent Dubreuil, François Déry, Daniel Dubreuil and Alexandre Déry have qualified.

I'm pretty sure the Dubreuils and the Dérys are brothers, so we would have 2 sets of brothers at a major
championships for the same country!

[Skate] Re: Dutch allround championship

Doesn't work in UK ...

Why are there so many top skaters NOT taking part
in the national championships?
