I must admit that I don't know the names of even famous short trackers. Could you name them, please?

[Skate] Oscar Diary & 1990

Hi,
I have published the Feb 26 entry at: http://www.ortygia.no/Skoyter/
Oscar/eod110226.shtml

Norwegian version: http://www.ortygia.no/Skoyter/Oscar/od110226.shtml

A couple of especially interesting pairs, I think. Note also the
contemporary attitude towards the 10000m referred to right before its
start. Worthy of comment?

I forgot to mention the address of the simulated 5-country matches
for 1990 here: http://www.ortygia.no/Skoyter/5LK/5lk1990.shtml

Here is the Oscar Diary entry without any images or formatting, for
your ease of commenting:

Both titles defended

A hundred years ago today, a posse of Nevada ranchers committed the
last armed massacre of Indians to date when they killed 8 out of a
band of 12 lead by Shoshone Mike, who had killed 4 ranchers in Washoe
County. Three adult men, two women, two male adolescents and three
children were the victims in addition to Ed Hogle of the posse. The 4
survivors, a woman and three children, were captured. One of the
children survived until 1992. Some of the Indians only had bows and
arrows to defend themselves with.

Way down in the Antarctic, Scott was on his way to Corner Camp, his
79° depot. The going was tough and men and animals were tired. They
rested after just 5km, and Scott notes that he thinks the men are too

[Skate] 1991

Hi,
I've published the 1991 edition of the Ortygia Cup (simulated 5-
country matches) at: http://www.ortygia.no/Skoyter/5LK/5lk1991.shtml
(sorry, Norwegian only), and eagerly looking forward to an exciting
season with many interesting new countries.

The memories from these seasons are becoming more and more intimate.
Apparently I had become even more avidly interested than before, and
I travelled a lot to meets. Never went to Sarayevo, though. Did any
of you? The memories must be priceless. Lucky for us that we got that
great championship just in the nick of time before the whole thing
was destroyed. Unlucky for us Norwegians that our king decided to die
just then and the NRK stopped all sport broadcasts. Does anyone of
you have tapes?

The world championship in Heerenveen was a weird experience, too. I
visited Frogner Stadion one of the days, believe it was the Sunday,
to make some historical research at the museum, watching the races on
TV there with other fans, researching in-between. But outside there
were veteran races going on, and one of the participants was --- Knut
Johannesen! Clearly recognisable style, but he managed to fall 3
times during his 3000 m. Oddly, this meet is not registered in
Preben's database, except with some few junior results. Kuppern, btw,
was still able to skate under 5.10 outdoor lowland those years.

[Skate] Oscar Diary.

Hi,
I've found time to publish the Mar 4 entry. It's at: http://
www.ortygia.no/Skoyter/Oscar/eod110304.shtml

Norwegian version at http://www.ortygia.no/Skoyter/Oscar/od110304.shtml

As usual very grateful for any comment, criticism, addition and
subtraction. Could you identify this antisemite Raabe for me, for
example?

You can read the image text by hovering over the image. Could you
tell me what you can read, and what browser you are using?

Here is the text in full, without formatting, links or images:

News this week: Monday: The PM of France, Aristide Briand,
demissions, and is replaced the day after by Ernest Monis. On Tuesday
western Norway is hit by a violent storm. On Wednesday, Bokken
Lasson, daughter of Oda Kroghs, gives a singing soiree at the house
of the craftsman club in Hamar. José Batlle y Ordóñes is elected
president of Uruguay. Wednesday: Manuel Enrique Araujo is made
president of El Salvador. Thursday: First performance of the
Prometheus symphony by Aleksandr Skriabin. On Saturday, a 100 years
ago today, the Russians celebrated the 50th anniversary of the
liberation of 23 million serfs by Aleksandr II. Meanwhile, the Duma
voted down prime minister Pjotr Stolypin’s proposal to give the
Poles some degree of local democracy. Also on the same day, US
congress discuss the inclusion of Arizona and New Mexico as new
states in the union, without arriving to a conclusion.

Yes, I considered him, but apparently this one was a member of the
Reichstag. Though it isn't stated explicitly, so it could be the
author that the article refers to. Maybe he wasn't a social democrat
either, but in those days you could be an antisemite and social
democrat at the same time, especially in Germany.

I see, so all browsers use the title text now. I put a longer
description in the alt text, but only the disabled will see that now.
I'd better change it.

Thanks,
