Pat, I was there and saturday was packed! We were commenting on
how full it was and we had a hard time saving seats for some
friends. Sunday wasn't quite a full but I would guess 75-85% which
is good for Utah like you said! It would be nice if there was some
US TV coverage! There have been stories in the papers, USA Today and
others but TV would be better. I heard that it might be on OLN
sometime but haven't seen any confirmation yet.

Re: [Skate] Chad on 3k, 10k and BdP error

Howdy pradners!!

Lemme tell ya'll what that Texan named Chad did that weekend. First
of all, there where no coaches present, but there were "official" time
trials that weekend. I say official since there were electronic time
bocks, Fellers volunteering doing the manual time and one of them even
had a GUN! Other fellers just hung around the track like umpires or
something and heck even some little markers to denote them track
lanes! Most funny of them all was the feller ringing that bell like it
was calling the cows home!! :)
Looked pretty darn official to this former Texan (or Texan, since once
a Texan always a Texan).
Anyway, don't let me stray from the story, That skater fellow Taylor
Goff (the Un-named Junior skater) made a little wager of a Texas style
dinner (a really large steak) with Chad "longhorn" Hedrick about how
he could skate 3k's very good. Taylor was part of a quartet previous
to Chad's pair. I reckon he skated something like a 4.03
Now, the 3k races was the last ones of the day and I am only guessing
that Chad's belly was darn hungry, cuz, he went out like a Rodeo Bull
during Heat season and met the spread of 17 seconds with plenty to
spare. Now, he was not aware how fast he was going (no WR or
anythning like that in his mind) and with no coach in the back stretch
he just didn't even know how fast his laps were... One thing is
mighty sure, everyone that knew 'bout the bet was yollering and
screamin' to Chad about how many seconds he was ahead of the bet. My
guess is that he knew he had the bet covered and he took it easy once
he knew the jucy steak was his! but NO! that is not true... since he
negative splited his last few laps.

I stand corrected then, on dutch TV they spoke about
150 people on Sunday.
What is the capacity of the venue?

I find that Dutch TV is not the most reliable source on spectator
figures. They always seem to expect 10,000 - no matter what race and
when it is held. Mart Smeets usually complains when Heerenveen isn't
filled on a weekday afternoon or evening.

Very entertaining piece of information, Erik. Would've been nice to see it

[Skate] Iraqracy!

Greetings to all.....I know we are in the middle of the skating season, but
I'm a bit surprised that no one has commented on the elections in Iraq on
Sunday. I would welcome opinions from all on the list....I think an open
discussion would be delightful.

Obviously, I am of the opinion that it is another success for freedom around
the World. I support my President and the difficult decisions he has made,
standing steadfast to his beliefs. I pray that the election will lead to
Iraqracy in the Middle East.

Best,
Jeff Fitz

Kees, I'm not sure of the total capacity. But it is much less
than Heerenveen, where I will be going in a few weeks! It's also
less than during the olympics because they had stands only down the
front straight and around part of the corners. The stands also
seemed to be shorter than during the olympics.

It shouldn't. But according to interviews I've read, there's several skaters
out there who think two races in one day is dangerous...

"Even a blind hen might lay the big egg.."

The relays were run in National Championships (in Norway and other places)
for years. The results shows a decreasing interest, starting with the cubs'
best skaters in the first year; ending up with C teams.

1: The team pursuits are arranged in a format that differs from other speed
skating events. Most important it's a team event in a highly individual
sport; besides, the competitors don't start side by side, but on different
sides of the rink.

Yes, she will.
She let me know by SMS: "Si, que voy a correr el mundial en FIN." Which
means she is going to participate the Junior World Championships en

Well, I do have an opinion, so here we go:

>Obviously, I am of the opinion that it is another success for freedom around

Success? I think an election with 30+ dead in assaults and one major
ethnic group barely turning out to vote is at most a partial success. I
don't think anybody would call a US election a success if 300+ people
died in assaults ( the same number as in Iraq which has a 10 times
smaller population) and if most of the black (African American -
substitute for any other major ethnic group) population decided not to
vote (because of disagreement with the rules) and if no black people
would run for a position in the government. But because it's the first
more or less free election in Iraq, at least something has been
achieved. So a partial success.

However, even that is just a preliminary evaluation. Free elections do
not equal democracy and do not equal freedom. Sure, free elections are
part of democracy, and usually considered a part of freedom, but
democracy and freedom don't come with free elections. Iraq stills needs
a lot more before it is really democratic and free. It needs elections
