Congrats to new F500 driver - winner

Just want to welcome a new driver and race winner to the F500 group. Joe
Wolf Jr. from New Windsor, NY had a good day on Saturday at Limerock. He
won the F5 class regional race and completed his second race for his SCCA
licence. Joe drives an Invader and I believe he said he lurks here from
time to time.

Welcome to the class.

Bog again

Our bog is back, worse than ever and I'm having difficulty diagnosing the cause. Everything is the same as
last year except we installed a rebuilt 494. Some notes:

WOT after turns rpm's drop BIG time, actually seems to improve somewhat when fuel level is lower (though I
may be compensating by adjusting my driving). Top end seems to be OK.

Tried richer and leaner and needle position changes. No effect. Carbs are clean and appear to be
functioning fine.

Swapped primaries and belts. Tension, alignment and clearance is ok. Secondary seems ok.

Electronics were replaced last September.

Crankshaft seal had oil under it one time, looked absolutely clean all other times.

Guess I could put a surge tank in the fuel line but it seems to be better when the cell is low. I was trying to
avoid Marilyn putting a tired engine in to see if the problem is there. Any other thoughts would be greatly
appreciated. TIA, Charlie

You didn't mention the fuel pump - have you tried swapping/rebuilding it?
Have you checked the vacuum drive line to the pump (it could be leaking).

You didn't mention float level - if they were set too low, you could be
emptying the bowl enough to go dry at WOT when you straighten out.

Also, you might want to check the fuel line itself. I had a problem recently
with a hairline crack in the line between the tank and fuel pump; fixed it
and my bog went away.

Good luck....

Re: Bog again

This sounds familiar, this happened to me once, twice, or more.

It's either clutching or fuel. What RPM does you clutch engage ? What max
RPM are you getting ? What are your EGT readings ?

Richard

New Facet-o-lator clicker pump installed in Sept. and seems fine (I'll
measure pressure and volume this weekend).

"You didn't mention float level - if they were set too low, you could be

My first thought, level checks ok and car was fine on the nearly 1/2 mile
straight at Memphis.

"Also, you might want to check the fuel line itself. I had a problem
recently with a hairline crack in the line between the tank and fuel pump;

Replaced fuel lines and filter after practice, didn't help.

"Good luck...."

Re: Bog again

this seems to be problem that pops up on this list once in a while, you
have single or dual floats in your carbs and is there anything else
installed in your bowls?

RE: Bog again

Do you have a known good secondary you could try? If the secondary clutch
is worn it's possible that it's getting stuck in the open position
(especiallly with the high Gs in a turn) and keeping you in way too high a
gear.

Agienapolis Report ?

Our friend Mr. Gill is way to busy studying to write-up the weekend report
from College Station, TX. However, I count no less than three other F5's in
Mr. Adams' photos. So . . . one of you Dolphin Motorsports guys or the
mystery Red-Devil driver care to share how the weekend worked out?

Thanks,
Joe

440cc manual

Hi,
I'm a mechanical engineering student at the University of Texas at Arlington.
I have a project to rebuild a Kawasaki 440cc engine and I was wondering if
anyone would know where can I find a manual for that engine.
Thank you,

Federico Barron

Congrats to new F500 driver - winner

Thanks Mike (So much for keeping a low profile). Thank you for your help at
the track. I would like to say that there sure are a lot of nice people in
and around the F500 class.

A special thanks to "Q" for putting up with my questions and turning around
my parts (He is a god with respect to these cars). Thanks to Ernie in Red Hook
who has been a great teacher in the art of the Rotax and other track tricks
to keep on running. And, to Paul from the CFC class who is always willing to
discuss the race line with me.

Thanks to everyone who has helped me over the past couple of months. There
are many.

Regards,
Joe
