When I was running AMW power I performed extensive dyno testing. A monometer
hooked to a .050 brass tube which was inserted through the primer port and
bent down to the main venturi. Measurements revealed that there was less
than 12 in H2O suction at the main jet at 8000 rpm. Herb Kam at Mikuni told
me that this was insufficent to provide a good "signal" to the main jet and
to make the carb run at full "pop" pressure. Herb is the person that
designed the Mikuni BN38. His advise was to install smaller carbs.

My conclusion and opinion is that the AMW can not possibly suck enough.

No matter what I did, I continued to experience random burn down.

My advise is to run as low a pop pressure as possible and bore out the high
speed needle adjustment an additional .020 in. This will give the high speed
adjuster more control.

For some reason, what you meant is not exactly what you said. Or maybe it
is. :-)

well then

Seing as noone bought my car and shifter kart, I have relisted them at some
pretty rediculous prices. Again, if anyone is interested in the car at a
crazy price, here is the link.

Mikuni Carb Questions

List,
I have 3 pair of Mikuni 38mm carbs with my car and spares. One pair has
the hex plug in the bowl of the carb for quick access to the main jet.
The other 2 pair of carbs has a removable bowl, but no hex plug and the
bowl has 2 or 3 transitional jets screwed into the inside of the bowl.
Are both of these types of carbs legal for scca? And if they are both
legal, why are they different and which is a better carb? Is one "new
and improved" and one "old school"? Help! I want to completely clean,
rebuild and re-jet one pair, but want to do it to the best pair. Thanks.

Low Entry Numbers for Topeka Nationals

Last year we had about 27 and so far this year only 11 - what gives? I also noted that the overall entries are
just 583 which is way down from this time last year.

Aim Trackmaps

Does anybody have a MyChron track map for Gratten and Mid-O? If you do, will you email it to:

If somebody would also not mind sharing a few laps of data that I could use as a reference, send that along also.

Thanks

Mikuni Carb Questions

Bill
Sorry it took so long to reply, we have been BUSY!!!, not that I'm
complaining.
You need to use the "standard" round slide VM38 carbs, those are
the ones with the brass hex plug in the center of the bowls.
The other carbs are power jet versions and I'm pretty sure they are
not legal. The idea of the power jet was to flow some extra fuel
from about 3/4 throttle to wide open. I think the power jet was
supposed to provide about 30-40% of total fuel at wot.
It's been a long time since I've played with power jet carbs
but I think the needle jets are different also. I don't think they
would be an advantage even if they were legal.
Take care
