Working Groups activities: first results and future work

Dear all,

the work of the Working Groups (WGs) has started. The first internal 
dead-line is tomorrow/today December 6. At this deadline almost all WGs 
have come up with first drafts of the taxonomies that you can find in 
the mailing-lists archives:

Non-visual and Multimodal Visualization, CFP

Dear S2S^2 people,
    let me point to this Conference in Europe, as a possible place to 
present new results of our research and to disseminate the activities 
of our Action.  It is especially important because there will be 
several "non-sound" people, and because it is associated with the large 
conference on Information Visualization.
I am in the programme committee, let me know if you have special ideas 
or if you intend to submit a contribution.

Thanks to you all for your active contribution. The sources are in the CVS and 
we'll surely improve the annotated bibliography in the future.

There are no other tasks that I am aware of until the Helsinki Meeting, except 
the preperation of the agenda of our wg-audio meeting. After our two tasks it 
is organizing itself, as can be assessed from the last threads in the mailing 
list.

July 2005: Summer School proposal


Dear friends,

please find attached a  report  written  by  Damien  Cirotteau  about  a
meeting that we held in Canazei last week during the  SCoCoDe  workshop,
dedicated to this next S2S^2 summer school. We would definitely like  to
finalize the organization of the summer school  in  Genova  in  Helsinki
during our next meeting, so here you have an  opportunity  to  catch  up
with the discussion and present suggestions/proposals/etc.

We kept the discussion in the report because it carries out much of  the
rationale about the current proposal. If you are in  a  hurry,  you  may
skip directely to the proposal, which starts where the following lines:

Dear friends,

we have installed a mail alias:

	newscollector@...

(which is currently pointing to Damien's e-mail address) where  you  can
send all the bits and pieces of news S2S^2-related  which  you  find  of
particular interest. Damien will do the collection and: 1) post the news
onto the website 2) possibly, we will start an  S2S^2  newsletter  which
will carry our news plus some  of  the  news  collected  with  the  news
collector (if we deem this useful).

Thank you for the info. I think it would be nice, indeed, to present S2S^2 in
some way - or at least to let people know that the action exists, give
coordinates, etc. (perhaps we should start thinking to a brochure of some
sorts, too).

Is anybody planning to go?

The Future of Music Software Workshop Announcement

This is a draft version of the announcement. If you agree I will go on

The Music Technology Group ( http://www.iua.upf.es/mtg/ ), the 
Technology Department and Universitat Pompeu Fabra ( http://www.upf.es/ 
) invite you to one-day music-software workshop, sponsored by S2S² 
(http://www.s2s2.org/). On Friday January 28th there will be talks, a 
discussion panel and a hands-on workshop in various parts of the
university.

July 2005: Summer School proposal

Dear partners,

as mentioned by Nicola, during the Helsinki meeting we will have to 
finalize the organization of the Genova summer school.
During the SCoCoDe workshop in Canazei we came up with a draft proposal 
of a bottom-up organization that includes hand-on sessions on two 
selected topics. This implies a careful preparation of the work in the 
months before the school.

At present it is not completely clear to me how to organize these 
hands-on sessions in practice. Therefore I think that the discussion 
should focus on this aspect. In Helsinki we should try to find concrete 
and detailed proposals that implement the "working session" idea.
In my opinion we should also be ready with a backup solution, i.e. a 
more traditional summer school format structured in mini-courses.

In any case we should evaluate how much effort to invest in the school, 
in proportion with the other things we have to do within the project and 
with reference to the long term objectives of  S2S2.

Any comment and suggestion before the meeting is welcome.
Moreover I will arrive to Helsinki saturday 8 jan afternoon and I will 
glad to discuss there with the partners eventually present.
