[sci.med.imaging 355] 4th CompIMAGE - Pittsburgh, USA, Sept. 3-5, 2014

Dear Colleague,

The 4th CompIMAGE conference (http://jessicaz.me.cmu.edu/CompImage2014) aims to bring together researchers in the area of computational modeling of objects represented in images. Different approaches, such as level set method, deformable models, optimization, geometric modeling, principal component analysis, stochastic methods, machine learning and fuzzy logic and so on will be discussed by the experts to face with problems from different applications, including medicine, biomechanics, biometrics, material science, robotics, surveillance, and defense. 
The CompIMAGE’14 conference will be held in Pittsburgh, USA, on Sept. 3-5, 2014. The previous CompIMAGE conferences were held in Rome (2012), Buffalo (2010) and Coimbra (2006). CompIMAGE’14 invites submission of high-quality papers on topics including, but not limited to:

The Authors of the best ranked papers will be invited to submit extended versions to the Taylor & Francis journal: Computer Methods in Biomechanics and Biomedical Engineering: Imaging & Visualization (www.tandfonline.com/tciv) – There will be a meeting with the members of the journal editorial board during CompIMAGE’14.

Imaging and Visualization are among the most dynamic and innovative areas of research of the past few decades. Justification of this activity arises from the requirements of important practical applications such as the visualization of computational data, the processing of medical images for assisting medical diagnosis and intervention, and the 3D geometry reconstruction and processing for computer simulations.
Currently, due to the development of more powerful hardware resources, mathematical and physical methods, investigators have been incorporating advanced computational techniques to derive sophisticated methodologies that can better enable the solution of the problems encountered. Consequent to these efforts any effective methodologies have been proposed, validated and some of them have already been integrated into commercial software for computer simulations.
The main goal of this MICCAI workshop on Bio- Imaging and Visualization for Patient-Customized Simulations 2013 (http://sites.google.com/site/mwbivpcs) is to provide a platform for communications among specialists from complementary fields such as signal and image processing, mechanics, computational vision, mathematics, physics, informatics, computer graphics, bio-medical-practice, psychology and industry. Participants in this workshop are going to present and discuss their proposed techniques and methods in the corresponding fields that are related to the workshop topics and explore the translational potentials of these emerging technological fields. This workshop will be an excellent opportunity to refine ideas for future work and to establish constructive cooperation for new and improved solutions of imaging and visualization techniques and modelling methods towards more realistic and efficient computer simulations.
Another important objective of the  MICCAI workshop on Bio- Imaging and Visualization for Patient-Customized Simulations 2013 is to establish a viable connection between software developers, specialist researchers and applied end-users from diverse fields related to Signal Processing, Imaging, Visualization, Biomechanics and Simulation.

order to adequately perform the responsibilities of this position the
individual must:
Passion for developing technologies aimed at improving the lives of
millions of people.
MS/PhD students or professionals in Computer Science/ Electrical
Engineering/Computer Graphics areas preferred. Other exceptional
candidates will also be considered. Prior industrial experience highly
desired.
Desired knowledge set: Solid working knowledge of GPU based medical
image analysis algorithms (e.g. segmentation, registration, geometry/
mesh processing), GUI development. Hands-on experience in one or more
of these areas is strongly preferred.
Desired skill set: C/C++ on Linux and Windows, GPU based image/
geometry analysis, itk/vtk, OpenGL, pixel/vertex shaders, CUDA, GLSL,
Cg, GUI development in Qt.
Ability to perform fast prototyping and testing iterations and
thinking outside the box to solve practical problems.
