Scope of Practice

Ours is not your traditional "hospital based" flight program. We at Eagle III in Green Bay are a combination
of 2 hospitals (not in the same health care system) and a freestanding ground and HEMS program. Our
hospital ICU medical director and our flight team are looking to expand our scope of practice within the
hospital setting to include independent pt intubations, insertion of central lines, and insertion of
chest tubes. Prior to initiating this course, I am hoping to find out what the in-house scope of practice
includes in other hospital based programs as well as the steps taken to obtain and maintain competency in
the included procedures. ANY information, experiences, assistance, and guidelines would be greatly
appreciated from this group of professionals.

Re: Scope of Practice

In the Olympia/ Seattle area I believe our Flight med are privately owned and operated companies that are
stationed at the local hospitals or airports. It is interesting to hear there are Flight programs that are
hospital based.

Can anyone tell me what the most important certificate to obtain after completing RN training is on the way
to Becoming a Flight Nurse?
Thanks,
Brenda
