Wikimedia Conferentie 2007: Pre registrations opened

Hello all,

For the Wikimedia Conference Netherlands 2007 the registrations have
been opened. The conference on october 27 in Amsterdam will take one
day (9.30 - 18.00) and most of the program will be in Dutch. However,
a few lectures will be in English such as a lecture by Eliane Metni
from iEARN, Cormac Lawler and Florence Devouard. The theme of the
conference is Wiki's and Education.

I would like to welcome those who are interested to look for more
information on our website:
http://www.wikimediaconferentie.nl/english/ and at our registration
form: http://www.wikimediaconferentie.nl/registrations/ . I certainly
hope to meet a few of you on october 27!

Best regards,

Lodewijk Gelauff / Effeietsanders

archives of lectures from Wikimania?

Hi,

I am still looking for the archives (at least audio) of the lectures
at Wikimania. I'm pretty sure these videos on the ogg page were not
created originally in ogg. Does anyone have the original files which
could be cut? Although the Wikimania was well organized, I find the
lack of archives for those who could not attend to be very sad. :(

Thanks,
Chuck

Wikimania 2008 - Jury criteria clarification

All,

Following some queries and speculation, the Moderators of the
Wikimania 2008 selection Jury would like to clarify that the different
factors that the Jury will use to judge each of the Bids will be
weighted by the Jury in a cardinal (sometimes called "range") vote as
a part of the overall selection process, as has been informed on
[[m:Wikimania 2008/Judging process]].

The selection criteria will include the consideration of
geographical/cultural diversity (including "continental rotation"),
and the weighting between them will vary, but no particular criteria
should be considered to have a veto over the process. The current
draft of the criteria is held at [[m:Wikimania 2008/Judging
criteria]], and input is still welcome.

On behalf of the Jury.

Yours,
--

Open Wikimania 2008 website?

We were discussing in our IRC meeting a more professional and easier to navigate place to present our bid to prospective press and sponsors. Can the Wikimania 2008 website on Wikimedia be opened for all of us to present our big aims there instead of having to direct people to different pages on Meta, which they may not be 100% aware of navigating?

Re: Open Wikimania 2008 website?

I think it is better to open the Wikimania  2008 website after the host city get chosen.
Meta is a place to coordinate biddings, but Wikimania website is for the official use of the event.
Since there will be only one city get chosen as the host, I am afraid that other bidders' proposals on the same website would confuse people.

Re: Open Wikimania 2008 website?

I understand that, however, my main concern is utmost professionalism in presentation to people we have to convince to help us. To me, linking to a wiki doesn't exactly have that quality, not 100%. And there's only so much you can say before they want to see something, and I'm afraid a wiki page does not have the best statement that it can.

Hi, Mike,

Please clarify that to open a website of the Conference is a request from you, or Atlanta Bid, or Atlanta Bid's sponsor (which needs to be convinced). Thank you.

Good point, THD.
I would like to add Wikimania official website have been always a wiki
- even the Foundation official website is. So you bring up two
different request - opening the 2008 website and opening not-a-wiki
website. The matter may bring difficulty for further organizations
regarding content management.

Cheers,

Re: Open Wikimania 2008 website?

The bid and the people working on it suggested it. I suppose we can always create our own website for our information, and show people to the bid on one of the pages. I was just throwing it out. I didn't expect a negative reaction.

Re: Open Wikimania 2008 website?

You can always turn your statement on its head -- linking to a really
nice wiki page might be *exactly* the message we want to send. It is,
after all, a conference about wiki based sites and about the power of
wikis as a content creation medium :)
