Dear all,

This's TzuChiang from Wikimania 2007 preparation team, I'm also working
in the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, a governmental
institute in Taiwan, we understand that there're some participants had came
across difficulties while you applied Visa to Taiwan.

To solve this problem, we, the Academia Sinica, will and right now negotiating
with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to regard Wikimania 2007 as a
Special Case, and issue "Visa on Arrival" to those who have visa problems.

If we success, most of the participants that have problems while you apply
Visa could use "visa on arrival".

The procedure will be:

I thought I'd share something quick regarding Visas.

I went to the Taipei Cultural and Economic Office in Caracas on Monday
and requested the tourist visa.

The process went without a hassle, they asked for some bank statements,
a work letter, a photo, the invitation letter, the ticket, to fill out a
form (simple form) and 75k bolivares (around 30$) for a simple one entry
visa.

It went really smooth, and I'm supposed to pick it up today friday in
the afternoon, so it usually takes a couple of days (yesterday was a
holiday in here)

I thought for a moment that the process would be slow or that I would
get it denied, but no complaints on the visa process.

Taiwan's geopolitical situation has made it one of the most pragmatic
nations in the world. Having "Cultural and Economic Offices" in Caracas
and many other cities around the world to substitute for embassies and
consulates attests to that pragmatism. They can't afford the security
extravagances of certain much bigger countries.

Update:

Just picked my passport with the visa :), they gave me a bunch of stuff
too! like booklets, a map of Taipei, a pin with the flag, and assorted
information :).

Re: [Fwd: Visa on Arrival - for those who came across difficulties while you apply Visa to Taiwan]

Awww... how come didn't I get the booklet and info guide on Taiwan? Well, I could always resort to good ol' wikipedia. :-)

I applied for my passport on 27th June and received it on 29th. It usually takes a month and a half, but it pays to have contacts in the Ministry of External Affairs. ^_^

Applied for visa a few days ago, got it done through a representative, he mailed the confirmed visa next day via airmail.

Mission Accomplished.

Hope to see you all in Taiwan.
By the way, the name tag that I would be wearing will proclaim :-

"Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington"

Hello

Quick question ('cause I did not find the information on the website).

Normally, there should be two special dinners planned. One is the
general wikimania party and one is the vip party.

I understood VIP party is on the 5th; Can you confirm ?
Which date is the wikimania party?

Is there anything special planned on the third day ?

Re: [Fwd: Dinners]

Dear Florence,

Wikimania Party: Aug. 4 in Red Theater (on the Main Page)
VIP Party: Aug. 5 Boxes Restaurant

Aug. 3 is still no plan yet. I want to ask some team members and local volunteers to bring people going outside, exploring the city.
Birthday Party?

As that's my birthday, the Birthday Party idea seems very appealing. :)

Re: [Fwd: Dinners]

Okay

For some it will be birthday party, for others (board+staff), it will be
business party :-)
