Biographies of living people translation request

Hi translators -

Please translate

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Biographies_of_living_people to your languages if you can. This is for a proposed global policy regarding biographies, not for the Board resolution.

See http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Template:Translation/Biographies_of_living_people for status.

Thanks!

Board elections candidacy period time change

Ladies and Gentlemen,

As you may be aware, there is concern that the sitenotices regarding
submission of candidacy for the Board of Trustees election were not
seen anywhere but Meta after the 11th of this month. Because of the
potentially massive consequence of this, and to encourage a full and
active election, the election committee has determined that:

	- Candidacies will be accepted through July 27th at 23:59 (UTC)
	- The period for questioning candidates begins immediately.
Candidates that are "late to the party" will, no doubt, be scrutinized
by the community. The Committee hopes that the community will work to
actively ensure that all candidates receive equivalent questioning.
	- The dates of election will not change. The election will begin on
28 July and end on 10 August.

Please know that we recognize the radical nature of altering the
schedule in the midst of the election and would not do it if we did
not absolutely believe that there was a possibility that others may be
interested and qualified and may not have known about the key dates.

For the committee,
Philippe

(in my capacity as a volunteer, and not as an employee of the
Wikimedia Foundation)

I believe all of the translations mentioning these dates have been
updated by Markus Schulze, please check to make sure your language is
updated.

You could also look to see if any other pages need to be started or
completed, here's the main translation page:

New request: Fundraising Survey

Hey translators,

There's a new translation request, a survey by the Foundation about
fundraising to past donors and possible donors. The request isn't too
long and is pretty important.

The languages we need it in are: cs, da, de, en (source), es, fr, it,
ja, nl, pl. (These languages represent the countries with the highest
total donations to Wikimedia Foundation in 2008.)

The translations are needed by July 29, or as close to this date as
possible. We can't go live until all the translations are in place
(it's not easy to add them after launch).

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Fundraising_2009/Survey/Translations

If you have any questions about the request, feel free to ask on this
mailing list or the request's talk page:
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Fundraising_2009/Survey/Translations

Fwd: Updates to secure poll

Hmm, seems that this never got through (we tried to send it out on Monday).

There's only a few new messages and Tim says these should be the only
important, new ones. For most languages, this means only translating
2-6 strings!

Subject: Updates to secure poll

Greetings,

You may have noticed that there are some new status messages to be
translated for SecurePoll.  These will be critical to the election for
the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees.  When you have a moment,
would you mind checking translation status at
http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:Translate?task=untranslated&group=ext-securepoll
and http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2009/Translation ?
Your support is so greatly appreciated.

Re: Fwd: Updates to secure poll

It is a waste of translators' time to translate the SecurePoll admin
interface to dozens of languages, which is what most of the voting-related
translation requests (including this one) are about. Only a handful of
people have access to that interface, and it is quite unlikely that any one
of them doesn't understand English. It would be nice if the voter and admin
interface of SecurePolls could be split into separate translation groups.

[Board elections] Deadline approaching

Hey translators,

The Board elections are expected to start on June 28th, so we're
almost at our deadline for translations. Most of the languages are
close to completion, so if you could get in those final translations
it would be great. The page that seems to need the most work is the
"Candidates" page, which should be relatively stable from now.
Although we'll try to keep the pages updated with any changes, it
would be good if you kept an eye on the English version in case new
candidates are added or ineligible ones are removed.

Remember that the work that you do will probably be reused for the
next election and it will be viewed by all the eligible community
members, so all translation help is very much appreciated!

Here's the main translation table with statuses/links to all the
pages: <http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2009/Translation>

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on this mailing list or
the main elections talk page:
<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Board_elections/2009>

Usually I'd agree with you, except that we're translating the
MediaWiki extension on betawiki so that it can be used on all
MediaWiki installations. I'm sure there's a Hungarian wiki (for
example the Hungarian chapter) out there that might want to use this
extension, and just imagine how happy they'd be when they realize it's
already been translated by a nice person!

That being said, we might want to provide this option. I'm CCing
Siebrand so he can tell us if this is an option.

[Board elections] More "vote interface" messages

Hey guys,

Sorry but there were a few more more messages added that we need. (I
know the day before the election started is not a good time to get new
requests, but there was nothing we could do.)

I tried as best as I could to reuse text/translations from previous
years, but somethings I couldn't find and others need a review. I got
through quite a few languages, but it's 4:00 AM here so I'm going to
stop for now, if you guys could help that would be great.

The new text is "Vote interface (meta)" on the table:
<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2009/Translation>

Here's how you can re-use other translations for these:

* title = the same as the bolded text on the main elections page (the
rules) or the header for the navigation bar

* jump text = the same as we used for the licensing update
<http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Licensing_update/Header_and_jump_text>,
I already put these on all the languages we had translations for

* candidate text = can just be removed if your language doesn't
transliterate latin names, otherwise just copy from the "Candidates"
translation (make sure you have all the candidates on there though!)

* introduction = the same as used last year with board vote
<http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/BoardVote/BoardVote.i18n.php?revision=51414&view=markup>,
but with a few small tweaks: we need to remove the HTML and replace it
with wiki-markup, change all 2008s to 2009s, and update "we are voting
for one person" to say "we are voting for three people"

I hope this helps you guys and sorry again for the fact that new
messages are being added so close to the deadline.
