Short translation: bug hunt

Hi,

We're trying to get more information about a bug that seem to have
caused a couple of users to get logged in as other users. If you have
two minutes to spare, there are a couple of sentences here that could
use translation so we can reach out in your language and ask if anyone
has encountered this.

MediaWiki rollback: Last minute Tech News changes

Hi everyone,

The latest version of MediaWiki was rolled back this weekend (Saturday
or Sunday depending on where you are in the world), and they just
decided how to handle this week's version:
https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2016-February/084669.html

I have removed one item, removed half a sentence from one item and
added third which explains that the last version has been removed, to
make sure the newsletter has this important information. I'm now going
to do two things:

*) Go through the translations and see if I can figure out what part
of the sentence to remove from the existing translations, to see if I
can replace the now English text with your translations.
*) Add an (English) explanation to the non-translated item that this
was added without giving the translators a decent chance to translate
it.

If you read this before I'm through with this process, you're very
welcome to translate these items. I'm going to send another email to
this list when I start the process of sending out the newsletter.

My apologies.

Request for translation for notice about Wikimedia instructional videos

Dear translators,

The message at
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:IEG/Motivational_and_educational_video_to_introduce_Wikimedia/January_message_to_village_pumps has been translated into Spanish, Catalan, and Czech. There have been partial translations into Arabic and Odia.

I would appreciate it if translators for Arabic, Odia, Greek, and Armenian could translate the message and post it to the village pumps for Wikipedias in their languages.

Translations into additional languages are also welcome.

Thank you!

Pine

Help:Notifications ready for translation

Hello translators!

In a nutshell
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Notifications is ready for translations after important changes

Detailed request
Some improvements have been done to the Notification extension, like design and new features. Collaboration team plan to make some changes soon, and release cross-wiki notifications (which will have a specific help page, translatable soon).

To be ready to welcome these changes during the next weeks, the documentation has been upgraded, by detailing the different features. I've tried to preserve the previous translations, but that was not always possible.

I know this is a very big page to translate and so a big workload. Do not hesitate to send me privately your preferences concerning page size for the future!

Have a nice week-end,
Benoît

Please help with translating the 2016 Steward Election related pages

Hello fellow translators,

Once again, we need your help with translating/proofreading the existing translations for the 2016 Steward Election and confirmation pages.

Primarily we need you to translate the following pages:

Some of those are already translated but may require updating and proofreading.

Candidate submissions will begin on January 15, 2016. By that time we will start getting candidate statements and then we would also need to translate those statements. Voting will begin on February 8, 2016. You can keep this page on your watchlist: https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Stewards/Elections_2016/Statements

If you need any help with translations or anything related to the election, you are free to contact Election Committee members or Clerks on Freenode IRC channel, #wikimedia-stewards-elections. Alternatively you can use the talk page at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Talk:Stewards/Elections_2016 to ask questions.

More update on translations will come into this thread with time. Feel free to forward this e-mail to any list you think might be helpful.

On behalf of the Election Committee,

Shanmugam Pachamuthu.

Notification (Echo) translations - major updates and changes

Hi all.

TL;DR: Please help update and complete the localization of the Echo extension in your language(s). :-)
Note that almost all of these messages have had parameter changes (either renumbered or meanings changed) for a few reasons.
https://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=Special:Translate&group=ext-echo&filter=!translated&action=translate

----

Brief details:
Many of the notification messages are being updated or replaced at the moment. This is part of the work that will make the existing notifications clearer and more useful, by providing a more standard layout, including a clear primary link, with extra links below. It will also reduce the number of messages to be translated overall, by using the same messages in the panel, the special page, and emails.[1] It is also in preparation for cross-wiki notifications.[2]

Many of these changes will be deployed in the second week of January, a few are already live, and a few will come in future weeks. I will bump this thread, if there is another large batch.

Much thanks, for all that you do.
I hope you are having a great end of year, and I look forward to working with you some more in 2016. Happy translating!

Quiddity / Nick Wilson

----

Finally, Technical details, for those who are interested.

The major changes are:
* New Notification messages will no longer contain multiple links in the main text.
Clicking the notification itself will go somewhere ("primary link"; already the case for most notifications) and some notifications will have a set of links at the bottom ("secondary links"; a few already have one). Any links that were previously in the notification text will be moved to a secondary link, if they weren't already redundant with the primary link.

* Localization gender support has been added to many messages.
All the new notification messages take parameters for the agent (the user that caused the notification) as $1 and $2, with $1 being the formatted user name and $2 being the user name for {{GENDER:}} purposes. (Technical footnote: this is done so that if the user name is oversighted, we can set $1 to <span class="make-this-gray-and-struck-out">(user hidden)</span> or similar.)

Additionally, mention-related messages now take a parameter for the gender of the recipient (the user viewing the notification); with this, these messages can now be gendered correctly in e.g. French ("Nick vous a remercié pour X" for male viewers and "Nick vous a remerciée pour X" for female viewers). We did already provide the gender of the agent (the user causing the notification), which was sufficient for some other languages (e.g. Hebrew). (phab:T119321)

* [1] We will significantly reduce the number of messages, by not using different messages for each of the notification panel (aka. "flyout"/"popup"), the notification page (Special:Notifications), and emails. The panel and the special page have already been converted, emails have not yet been. Once this conversion is done, all three will use the same messages. This will reduce inconsistencies between these three channels, and reduce the maintenance burden on translators. Some redundant messages have already been removed, some are unused but have not yet been removed, and some are still used by the email formatter for now.
