Ready for early translation: Tech News #27 (2015)

Greetings,

The latest tech newsletter is ready for early translation:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Tech/News/2015/27

Direct translation link:
https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Tech%2FNews%2F2015%2F27&action=page&filter=%21translated

I'm planning to send the newsletter on Monday afternoon (UTC), i.e.
Monday morning PST. The existing translations will be posted on the
wikis in that language.

There may be a few more edits by Friday, but the existing content
should generally remain fairly stable. I'll let you know on Friday in
any case.

Note: The newsletter includes an item about better translation memory
in the Translate tool; starting next week, translation memory should
load a lot faster. This makes me really happy :)

Let me know if you have any questions, comments or concerns. As
always, I appreciate your help and feedback.

Thanks!

Upcoming research newsletter (June 2015): new papers open for review

Hi everybody,

We’re preparing for the June 2015 research newsletter and looking for contributors. Please take a look at: https://etherpad.wikimedia.org/p/WRN201506 and add your name next to any paper you are interested in covering. As you may know, the Wikimedia Research Newsletter is a monthly overview of academic research about Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects, published jointly by the Wikimedia Research Committee and the Signpost. Short notes and one-paragraph reviews are most welcome. Drafts should be in before the target publication date which is Wednesday, June 24th.

Highlights from this month include:

  • Content Translation: Computer-assisted translation tool for Wikipedia articles
  • Multilingual Wikipedia Enrichment using Infobox and Wikidata Alignment

If you have any question about the format or process feel free to get in touch off-list.

Masssly, Tilman Bayer and Dario Taraborelli

3 minutes of your time: a video about editathons

Hi dear translators,

I'm passing on a request from my friend and colleague Victor Grigas.

There's this short video about editathons:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WikipediaMeetup.webm

It is going to be distributed on Friday.

It would be very nice if you could get it translated to your language. I just did it for Hebrew and it took me less than 3 minutes.

Instructions:
2. Create a page similar to the URL above, but with your language code instead of en. For example, for French write:
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/TimedText:WikipediaMeetup.webm.fr.srt

3. Paste the English text that you copied in step 1.

4. Change the English lines to lines in your language. Don't change the lines with numbers and times.

5. Save the page. That's it! To test, go again to
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:WikipediaMeetup.webm
... and while playing the video, click the CC button at the bottom of the player and select your language.

Thank you!
