I'm glad you already know about kananda wikipedia. It was started in
full scale by me around september end. Now, we have a good number of
contributors, with me and ashwath doing most of the editing work.

You can write anything that fits into an encyclopedia (vishwakosha).
It might be anything that you are interested in and want people to
know about it (facts, science, culture, saahithya, people... etc)

But there are hardly any contributors on the sanskrit wikipedia. I
would love to see someone who's well versed in sanskrit contributing
there (me studied sanskrit as my first language, but am still far away
from writing my own articles in it).
I'm a sysop and co-maintainer, volunteer at both sanskrit wikipedia
and kannada wikipedia. So, you can get back to me for any kind of
help, assistance that I can give you. There's a list for kannada

Wikipedia is something where anybody can login and edit anything on
it. You can head there right away and practice on sandbox. If at all

I started a wiki on vidyucchAstra (Electronics) on the kannaDa
wikipedia. This is a sincere attempt to start thinking electronics in
Kannada....(not just translating which is what it is at the moment,
but also doing real work). I know it's a far-fetched idea, but I
believe its worth making an attempt.

Maybe someone from electronics background should start filling in along 
with you. I like it when you say "worth making an attempt" 'cos that is 
what all this is about - the idea of even having a wikipedia in kannada 
in the face that we have it now was also a far fetched idea way back 
last year. but now, its here! we've realised part of it, haven't we? 
we're making a real good attempt (and progress too) at building one of 
the largest, free, open-content kannada resource center and fact book 
(and much more)... and I think we should continue with this. Of course, 
the pace might be slow, and it might be slower at times... since all 
this is so voluntary in nature. But we're sure to make history with this 
one ;)

    ಕನ್ನಡ ವಿಶ್ವಕೋಶ ೨೦೦ ಲೇಖನಗಳೆಡೆಗೆ ಸಾಗುತ್ತಿದೆ.  ಎಂದಿನಂತೆ ೨೦೦ನೇ ಲೇಖನವನ್ನು ಒಂದು ಸ್ವಾರಸ್ಯಕರ ಲೇಖನದಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿಸೋಣ... ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಮುಂದೆ ಬಂದು ನಿಮ್ಮ ನಿಮ್ಮ ನೆಚ್ಚಿನ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ಆಲೋಚಿಸಿ, ಲೇಖನವನ್ನು ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾಗೆ ಲಗತ್ತಿಸಿ. ೨೦೦ನೇ ಲೇಖನವನ್ನು ವಿಶೇಷ ಬರಹವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮುಖಪುಟಕ್ಕೆ ಜೋಡಿಸೋಣವಂತೆ!
ಇನ್ನೂರರೆಡೆಗೆ ಶರವೇಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಾಗಿದುದರ ಗೌರವ ಈ ಬಾರಿ ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಸಂಪಾದನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಪಾತ್ರವಹಿಸಿದ ಅಶ್ವಥ್‌ರವರಿಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲಬೇಕು. ಹಿಂದಿನ ಕೆಲವು ತಿಂಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿ ದಿನಕ್ಕೆ ಸರಾಸರಿ ೨ ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಜೋಡಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದು ಸಂತಸದ ಸುದ್ಧಿಯಾದರೂ ಈ ಕೆಳಕಂಡ ಸಮಸ್ಯೆಗಳು ನನ್ನ ಗಮನಕ್ಕೆ ಬಂದುವು:

೧) ಓದುಗರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಅಷ್ಟಾಗಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಲ್ಲ.
             - ಕಾರಣ ಹಲವರಿಗೆ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿಲ್ಲ! ಕೆಲವು ದಿನಗಳ ಹಿಂದೆ ವೆಬ್‌ಸೈಟ್ ಒಂದರಲ್ಲಿ ಚುಟುಕು ಮಾಹಿತಿಯೊಂದಿಗೆ ಸಂಪರ್ಕ ಹಾಕಿದ್ದ ನನಗೆ ಹಲವು emailಗಳು ಬಂದವು. ಜನರಲ್ಲಿ ಇದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಖಂಡಿತ ಇರುವುದು, ಆದರೆ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಇದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿಯುವುದು ಹೇಗೆ?

೨) ನಾವುಗಳು ಪೇರಿಸಿರುವ ಲೇಖನಗಳು ಉಪಯುಕ್ತವಾಗಿವೆಯೇ? ಇಲ್ಲವಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದ ಮುಂದೆ ಯಾವ ರೀತಿಯ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಸಂಪಾದಿಸಬೇಕು, ಎಂತಹ ವಿಷಯಗಳನ್ನು ಆಯ್ಕೆ ಮಾಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದು ಎಂಬುದರ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಅಲ್ಪವಾಗಿ ಆಲೋಚನೆ ನಡೆಯಬೇಕೆ?

ಇದರ ಬಗೆಗೆ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ ನಾವು ನಡೆಸಿದ ಚರ್ಚೆ ಇಲ್ಲಿದೆ:

೨೦೦ ದಾಟುತ್ತಲೇ ಇನ್ನು ಮುಂದೆ ಸಂಪಾದನೆ ಮಾಡಬೇಕಿರುವ ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಚರ್ಚೆ ನಡೆಸಿ ಒಂದು ದಿಶೆಯತ್ತ ಸಾಗಿದಲ್ಲಿ ಉತ್ತಮ ಎಂದನಿಸುತ್ತದೆ... ಏಕೆಂದರೆ ನಾವಿಬ್ಬರೇ ಬಹಳಷ್ಟು ವಿಷಯಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಬರೆಯಲಾಗದು. ಜನರು ಇಷ್ಟಪಡುವ, ಓದಿ ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಪಾಲ್ಗೊಳ್ಳುವಂತಹ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಬರೆಯುವುದು ಸೂಕ್ತವೆಂದು ನನ್ನ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯ. ಓದುಗರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ನಾವು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಿಸಿದಂತೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿಲ್ಲ. ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಜನರಿಗೆ ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಾಗದ, ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಮೂಡಿಸುವ ಲೇಖನಗಳ ಬಗೆಗೆ ನಾವು ಗಮನಹರಿಸಬೇಕು. ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ವಿಜ್ಞಾನ, ಪಠ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿರದ ಇತಿಹಾಸ - ಇವು ಇಂತಹ ವಿಷಯಗಳು. ಇಂಗ್ಲಿಷ್ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾದಲ್ಲಿ ಇವು ಬಹಳವಾಗಿವೆ.. ನಾವೇಕೆ ಅಂತಹ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಅನುವಾದ ಮಾಡಬಾರದು? --hpnadig ೨೧:೨೦, ೩೧ ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್ ೨೦೦೪ (UTC) ನಿಜ, ೨೦೦ ದಾಟಿದ ಮೇಲೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ directionality ಬೇಕು; ಈಗ ಇರುವ ಮುಕ್ಕಾಲು ಲೇಖನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಇರುವ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಎಲ್ಲರಿಗೂ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವ೦ಥದ್ದೇ  ಉತ್ಸಾಹ ಮೂಡಿಸುವ ಲೇಖನಗಳನ್ನು ಹುಡುಕಬಹುದೇನೊ, ಆದರೆ ಈಗಿನ ತೊ೦ದರೆ ಎ೦ದರೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನರಿಗೆ ವಿಕಿ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ಗೊತ್ತಿದ್ದ೦ತೆ ಇಲ್ಲ, ಹಾಗಾಗಿ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಲೇಖನಗಳು ಯಾವುವೇ ಆದರೂ ಓದುಗರು ಬರದೇ ಇದ್ದರೆ ಉಪಯೋಗ ಇಲ್ಲ  -------------- ಇವುಗಳ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನಿಮ್ಮೆಲ್ಲರ ಅಭಿಪ್ರಾಯವನ್ನು ಅಪೇಕ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

ಇದಲ್ಲದೇ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ತಿಳಿದವರಿಗಿಂತ ತಿಳಿಯದವರೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು. ಇದನ್ನೋದುತ್ತಿರುವ ನೀವೆಲ್ಲರೂ ವಿಕಿಪೀಡಿಯಾ ಕುರಿತು ತಿಳಿದವರಿಗೆ ಒಂದೆರಡು ಮಾತು ಹಾಕಿದಲ್ಲಿ ಬಹುಶಃ ಸಹಾಯವಾಗಬಹುದು. ಈಗಿರುವ ಓದುಗರ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ ಕಡಿಮೆ ಎಂದಲ್ಲ, ಆದರೆ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಜನ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದಷ್ಟು  ಉತ್ತಮ.

hi folks,

       Wikipedia reached the milestone 200 articles very recently. As 
usual, I take it my previlege to inform you all about this. What we need 
now is a polishing of the existing articles which in turn requires 
involvement and participation from all of you to make sure that this 
effort doesn't go down the drains. I urge all of you who've fancied a 
knowledgebase in kannada, to come forward, browse, edit and help pace it 
up a little more. We also need more readers! ;)

The milestone of 200 should largely be attributed to Ashwath, another 
sysop at wikipedia, for he's the one who's single handedly moved it 
forward for last one and half months. three cheers to him as you read 
this mail :)
