More Occupation life

Any significant Constitutional limitation on the ability of
corporations to put money in elections would be a huge victory in the
class struggle for the 99%. The campaign for this would set up a big
class battle _in the political arena_ not the economic "arena" as in
an economic strike. It would put tens of thousands in political
motion. It could activate many in the 99% who are politically inert,
now. Activity in the campaign would then further develop their
political class consciousness - practical critical activity. We might
expect state constitutional amendment campaigns to spring up setting
up more class battles in the political arena. For the Democratic
Party haters, this would be political activity that is not directly
supporting Democrats. In fact , the Democrats will be "co-opted" to
this campaign; the Occupation would co-opt Democrats instead of being
co-opted by Democrats. Dems have already been co-opted by this by
introducing it.

Why We Must Work Together To Pass The OCCUPIED Amendment

“Although they make enormous contributions to our society,
corporations are not actually members of it. They cannot vote or run
for office … the financial resources, legal structure, and
instrumental orientation of corporations raise legitimate concerns
about their role in the electoral process. Our lawmakers have a
compelling constitutional basis, if not also a democratic duty, to
take measures designed to guard against the potentially deleterious
effects of corporate spending in local and national races.”

War-Weary Republicans Rebuke Romney On Afghanistan

On Wednesday night, the Senate adopted by voice vote an amendment
introduced by Oregon Democrat Jeff Merkley calling on President Obama
to speed up U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan. This was a
watershed event towards ending the war. The previous high water mark
of Senators calling for expedited withdrawal was 27; the previous high
water mark on a vote was 18. The vote is a green light from the Senate
to the White House for a faster military withdrawal that would save
many American and Afghan lives and (at least) many tens of billions of
taxpayer dollars.

I am a residential architect and artist in Marin County, just north of
San Francisco. I have 40 years experience and have completed 195
projects. At the height of my professional experience, I've watched my
income drop by 50% in 2008, and another 50% in 2010. Residential
remodels and new projects have all but disappeared here in Northern
California. I live in a solar-powered Airstream trailer. I'm living on
my Social Security and piecing a lifestyle together on a
month-to-month basis. I watched an unemployed union concrete
finisher-neighbor, here in the trailer park, move out this week. He
sold his 20-year-old trailer to the park for unpaid rent. A crew
showed up today and started to demolish the old trailer. This is what
repossession looks line for the 99%. The 1% are demolishing our lives,
memories and dreams.

Why Miracle on 34th Street delights my cold cynical heart

Why "Miracle on 34th Street" delights my cold cynical heart

"Miracle on 34th Street" is the perfect Christmas movie for those who
hate fake sentimentality. It is not that the classic 1947 film lacks
schmaltz, but that a sly script hides a sharp edge under every
schmear.

Most of the plot advances come when characters, good and bad act out
of self-interest. Two exceptions are "Kris Kringle" who is soon
revealed to suffer from a delusion of being Santa Claus, and Sawyer,
the evil psychologist who acts out of ego-driven malice and hurts
other for no gain other than personal satisfaction. With those
exceptions everyone has motives an economics 101 student would
recognize.

Doris Walker hires Kris Kringle for the Macy's parade when her
original choice turns up drunk. She keeps him as the store Santa
because he seems well qualified to play the role, and she is
overwhelmingly busy and glad not spend the time finding someone else.
When Kringle starts directing shoppers to other stores if Macy's does
not have what they want (or is not their best choice), H.R. Macey
keeps him on because it turns out to be great public relations and
advertising combined. When, thanks to Sawyer's villainy, Kringle ends
up in a sanity hearing, a combination of political survival and not
wishing to disappoint their children result in the judge and
prosecutor alike taking it much easier on Kringle than they otherwise
would. Kringle is saved when postal workers decide to get rid of the

Jewish Peace Advocate Marc Ellis Facing "Starr Chamber" at Baylor University

Jewish theologian and peace advocate Marc Ellis had a nice job at
Baylor University, talking with young people about religion, ethics,

Clinton impeachment prosecutor Ken Starr the president of Baylor.

Choppa Morph wrote a bunch of very interesting questions. I have to
say that I have a hard time thinking of socialism in these terms -- as
abstract answers to general questions or as general answers to
abstract questions.

Usually, I think of socialism as an organic necessity springing out of
the concrete, historical, living and productive conditions of people
in modern societies -- that is, as the immediate, pressing need of a
critical mass of increasingly productive, interconnected, educated,
united, and assertive direct producers in the face of opposition by
those whose perceived interests are tied to the status quo. And I see
the tasks of socialists as that of helping the direct producers, in
very diverse settings, to move forward as an increasingly united
force.

Now, since in actual history such attributes of the direct producers
don't evolve uniformly and smoothly, but in very irregular and spotty
ways, I just think that particular groups of direct producers in
particular settings should just do the best they can with what they
have. And by that I mean the best they can to advance towards
cooperating and exercising full control over the products and

MADISON, Wis. - If there was any idea anger toward Wisconsin Gov.
Scott Walker's right wing extremist policies has dissipated, that was
smashed with the announcement that after just two weeks over 300,000
signatures have been collected for his recall. So far, collection
totals average 1,040 signatures an hour and have far exceeded even the
most optimistic expectations.

Signature collection lasts until January 17, and 540,000 valid
signatures are needed to recall Walker. Wisconsin law requires 25
percent of the previous election's gubernatorial vote total.
Organizers are aiming to collect 1 million signatures.

If enough valid signatures are collected, the recall election will be
scheduled for sometime in the first half of 2012. A Democratic
challenger will be determined later.

In addition to Walker, Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and four
Republican state senators are being recalled, potentially restoring a
Democratic majority in the state legislature. This follows the
