Upcoming Movie "Night at the Museum"

I haven't seen this on the list as yet, but has anyone seen any trailers for
the upcoming movie "Night at the Museum? I saw a billboard today and there
was a T-rex skeleton shown escaping from a crate. Probably the 'slimmed
down" version of JP. So I found the official movie site for the picture,
described as the "Official site for the movie Night at the Museum, starring
Ben Stiller as a security guard at the Museum of Natural History who
accidentally lets loose an ancient curse that causes the displays to come to
life and wreak havoc." at: http://www.nightatthemuseum.com/ . And on
Yahoo... "Good-hearted dreamer Larry Daley, despite being perpetually down
on his luck, thinks he's destined for something big. But even he could never
have imagined how big, when he accepts what appears to be a menial job as a
graveyard-shift security guard at a museum of natural history. During
Larry's watch, extraordinary things begin to occur: Mayans, Roman
Gladiators, and cowboys emerge from their diorama..." Some parts of the
trailer show a requisite T-rex chase scene, as well as some scary, campy and
funny diorama interaction scenes.

Evidently there's plenty of web traffic and trailers (over a million hits)
in anticipation of a Dec. 22, 2006 release date. Seems like a fun night for
the natural history museum crowd. Anyone involved in this? - Patti

Arambourgiania citation

What is the citation for the paper in which the genus _Arambourgiania_
was first published as a replacement for the preoccupied _Titanopteryx_?
I have seen three different citations floating around, one that I have a
copy of does not contain any mention of this name, and I have some
doubts on the existence

Why yes, my folks and I caught it between screenings of Casino Royale. I'd
likw to know whether Mark Norell et al have any cameos in this?

That'd be cool, but I don't think that the AMNH played any role at all
in it. In fact, some of the shots are actually of the Field Museum, if
I'm not mistaken (which was also featured in The Relic, a scifi horror
flick from the mid 90's).

The sets were built on a soundstage either in Hollywood or, more likely,
Vancouver, based on the AMNH. The exteriors were shot at the AMNH. Robin
Williams appears as Teddy Roosevelt. This fits in with the TR memorial on the
Central Park West entrance of the AMNH. DV

The trailer scenes sure look based on AMNH to me, all the way to it being called the "Museum of Natural
History," which was what my family called it. I wonder if they shot any scenes in the areas not open to the
public, which are neat to visit and probably could be made to look really spooky.

Re: Upcoming Movie "Night at the Museum"

I was visiting the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History several years
ago while they were filming a scene for the first Spiderman movie. If you
are familiar with that museum you will recognize the rotunda with it's
marble columns as the place where Peter gets bit by the mutated spider. The
movie mentions that it's the biggest facility of it's type on the East
Coast!

USNM fossils

Posted for Matt Carrano.
--Mary
______

Hello everyone,

Greetings from Washington. As a curator at the Smithsonian Institution's
National Museum of Natural History, I am writing to ask for your assistance.

Two weeks ago (November 15), we discovered that a major theft had occurred
from the exhibit halls of the NMNH. Someone had broken into five separate
railing cases and removed nine fossil mammal and reptile specimens (all Cenozoic)
from them. These cases were not under direct camera surveillance, so we do
not have footage of the theft. I am writing because we believe that the
thieves have only two options for these fossils.

The first is to keep or hide them, in which case we are probably going to
have a hard time recovering them.

The second option is to sell them, by passing them off as their own finds or
as legitimately purchased fossils.

In the event of the latter, I am including information on our missing
specimens, in the hope that you might recognize them should they pass under your
view. If you do see them, or have them offered to you, please let me know or
contact our collections manager (Jann Thompson, thompsonj <at> si.edu). Several of
these are important specimens, having been published and illustrated
previously.

The specimens are:
