esa - socis

Hello :)

My name is Eleni and yesterday I received an e-mail that I was
selected for the ESA summer of code. Today I subscribed to the mailing
list and saw that there was a thread about it. I would like to thank
the developers and Fabien Chéreau for approving my proposal and ask
you if you know whom I have to contact from now on to proceed with the
development. :)

Thank you in advance,
Eleni

Hi Eleni,

We use bzr for source control, instructions to check out and build the
latest version are here:
http://stellarium.org/wiki/index.php/Bzr_checkout

Some developer docs are here:
http://www.stellarium.org/doc/head/

Please ask any questions you might have.

Good luck!
Thomas

Hi all,
As you saw Eleni is joining us on the project :)
I will have intermittent connection during the next 2 weeks so feel
free to assist her in case I take too long to reply!
Cheers,

Hello and welcome to the project!

About contacting someone: SOCIS projects are supposed to provide a
"mentor" to the students. I guess this would be Fabien, because he's
the most knowledgeable about Stellarium's graphics engine. (And
because he has handled the SOCIS stuff so far anyway. :)) He said he's
going to have almost no Internet connection for the next few days, so
he may not be able to answer immediately.

The project code is hosted on Launchpad:
https://code.launchpad.net/stellarium
The main branch is here:
https://code.launchpad.net/~stellarium/stellarium/trunk

We use Bazaar for version control, because it is the only VCS
supported by Launchpad. The plus side is that you can host public
personal branches that can easily be merged with the main branch. If
you are unfamiliar with it, I suggest reading Bazaar's documentation
first. It has some peculiarities: for example, it makes a difference
between a "branch" and a "checkout".

There is some "developers' documentation" on the website, but it's out
of date (two major classes were merged recently). After you get the
code, you can generate an up-to-date local copy with Doxygen (the
online documentation is generated using Doxygen anyway).

Regards,
Bogdan Marinov

Website and wiki update

Dear all,

I'm going to try and update the MediaWiki installation of the
Stellarium Wiki in the next few hours.

I can also try and synchronise the rest of the website with what is in
the repository, but as we still don't have enough translations, I can
leave it for later.

Regards,
Bogdan Marinov

Welcome!

We need translation in Spanish GUI of Stellarium -
https://translations.launchpad.net/stellarium/trunk/+lang/es
descriptions of landscapes and skycultures (you can get it from bazaar
repo, from trunk), plus Stellarium User Guide (on wiki)
