Subject: Stellarium language files
Hello!

We are not sure if this is the right address for this mail, but we
found it in one of the files in the program. If it's wrong please
forward this mail to the right person.

As the norwegian (bokmål - nb) language files for Stellarium have not
been updated for a while, we have done so and also made corrections
and improvements.
We have also translated some files that are not translated earlier.

In the language_files.zip (attachment) these files are included:

nb.po in the "local main" folder - this is the main language file
nb.po in the "local skycultures" folder - this is the sky culture file
se.po in the "local skycultures" folder - this is the Sami sky culture
file (only the sami constellations are translated in this file)
description.nb.utf8 in the "norse" folder in the "skycultures
description" folder
description.nb.utf8 in the "western" folder in the "skycultures
description" folder

You can make all these files available to others if you want to.

Some notes:

The Sami skyculture
There are some discrepancies from the sources listed below compared to
Stellarium:

The Runner (sami name: Fávnna gilvoolmmái) is thought to be Altair
(not Vega as in Stellarium) and the morning star Venus (sami name:
Guovssonásti) (not Altair). The Runner is the competitor to Fávdna
(Arcturus) and is said to run a race against him (hence the name the
Runner).
The constellation Sarva or Sarvvis the elk is mentioned more often as
a reindeer bull and the antler on the image in "The Sami sky" article
from the North Norwegian Science Centre is much higher than in
Stellarium.
Galla (Gállá) is said to be Sirius, in Stellarium it is Procyon
although there is a note that it may be Sirius.

Sources:
North Norwegian Science Centre (
http://nordnorsk.vitensenter.no/himmel/stjerner/samisk.php )
Jelena Sergejeva, Samisk institutt, University in Tromsø (
http://www.almanakken.uio.no/temaartikler/samiske_stjernebilete_2001.html
)
(A "Google Translate" ( http://translate.google.com/ ) from norwegian
into english of these two sites is by no means perfect, but will give
a useful impression for those interested)
GUOVSSONÁSTI  ( http://www.guovssonasti.se/huvud.htm ) (swedish site)
http://www.starlab.com/PDFs/D.14.Lapp-SamiMythology.pdf

A small note on the Norse skyculture:
What is called Orion's Belt in western skyculture is called The
Fishermen in the Norse skyculture in Stellarium. This is not wrong,
but to our knowledge a more common name is Frigg's Distaff. (Frigg is
spinning clouds with the Distaff. Frigg is a major goddess in Norse
mythology)

Bug ? - in the Configuration window - Startup date and time - Other -
the "use current" button does not show current time (it is one hour
behind).

We have earlier translated into norwegian the upcoming new versions of
the astronomy software Celestia and Cartes du Ciel / SkyChart, and
among those and several others, Stellarium is listed on the Astro page
at the FreewareTips website: http://home.c2i.net/freewaretips/

Finally, thanks for a very nice program and good luck with further development

Best regards

I'm added skyculture description into norwegian-improvements and
proposed include this in trunk. I can add translations for gettext
after some checks or you can added it yourself via launchpad rosetta.

not perfect ( ahahah ! )
Nice to meet you and see you soon

Are you talking about the website?

Because according to the latest statistics at our translation site in
Launchpad, the Italian translation is complete at 99.99%:
https://translations.launchpad.net/stellarium/trunk/+lang/it
Of course, the translation included in the last version can lag a bit.

Regards,
Bogdan Marinov

GPS plugin

I believe that the code for my Gps Locator plugin is now just about
complete and will allow any serial GPS device (or USB device presenting
on a COM or /ttyUSB port) sending NMEA sentences to be used to provide
position data to Stellarium. I have tested on Windows and Ubuntu Linux
but it still needs testing on a Mac. Can you advise me what the next
step is please? Should I now request a merge?

If no one else does, I'll have a look at it tonight.
