It is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the 
3rd U.S.-JAPAN WORKSHOP ON ADVANCED RESEARCH ON EARTHQUAKE 
ENGINEERING FOR DAMS, to be held in San Diego, California, 
on June 22-23, 2002. This workshop is co-sponsored by the 
U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center
(ERDC) and the U.S. Society on Dams (USSD), and it will part o
f the pre-conference activities of the 22nd
USSD Annual Meeting and Conference (to be held at the same 
location on June 24-28, 2002). 

The objectives of this workshop are to provide a forum to discuss 
the current status of research and development
in seismic design and evaluation of dams and appurtenant structures, 
to identify critical research needs that can
receive substantial benefit from joint investigation, and to 
promote cooperative research initiatives to develop
economical protective countermeasures against seismic effects.

Llamado a Concurso para organizar ENIEF 2003

Estimados miembros de AMCA,
                                            Como sabran, el proximo
a#o 2002 realizaremos un MECOM en las ciudades de Santa Fe y Parana, 
el cual por primera vez sera organizado en forma conjunta por AMCA y 
la Asociacion Brasilera de Mecanica Computacional (ABMEC).

En el 2003, deberiamos organizar un ENIEF.  De acuerdo a nuestro
reglamento,
la decision del lugar donde se realizara cada congreso queda en manos
del
Comite de Congresos. Para esto, los interesados en la organizacion de
ENIEF
2003, deberian enviar antes del proximo 15 de diciembre una nota, o al
menos
un e-mail, solicitandolo, con toda la informacion que crean oportuno,
para
convencer al Comite de Congresos.

Mayoritariamente, los ENIEF se hacen en Bariloche, en el CAB.
Lamentablemente para el 2003, ya nos han llegado algunas manifestaciones
sobre la imposibilidad de hacerlo ahi. En cambio, existe una propuesta
firme
de Axel Larreteguy, quien esta trabajando actualmente en la UADE,
Capital
Federal, para organizar ENIEF 2003 en Buenos Aires. Como ya les comente
antes, la decision final dependera de las propuestas recibidas hasta el
15
de diciembre y de la evaluacion que haga el Comite de Congresos.

Defensas de Tesis

En octubre pasado fueron presentadas ante la Universidad Nacional de 
Tucuman dos tesis para  acceder al grado academico de
Doctor en Ingenieria, tituladas:

"Viscoplasticidad Continua y Consistente"
Autor Ing. Alejandro Carosio

"Procesos de Falla de Hormigon en Regimen de Alto Confinamiento"
Autor Ing. Domingo Sfer

Como director de estas tesis deseo invitar a la comunidad de la 
AMCA y a todos los interesados en dichos temas a la defensa
oral y publica que tendra lugar el dia Miercoles 5 de Diciembre
a horas 9:30 y 11:30 respectivamente, en el Instituto de
Estructuras "Arturo M. Guzman" de la Facultad de Ciencias Exactas
