If my memory serves me correctly, I think that just
about this time a year ago, large numbers of students
were using 1 and 2 to travel cross-country as part of
a major student exchange program. As I recall, one of
our Listmembers from Vancouver had a family member in
the program, and he reported in some detail about it.

If that exchange program is in operation again this
summer, that might explain the large number of coaches
on 1 today.

Those trains also had a dedicated diner, placed ahead of the coaches
for feeding the students...

I don't recall seeing a diner in front of the coaches on those
consists...

Caught 78 running about 30 minutes late and am I still waiting for 83. I thought it ran on Saturday. Maybe not

I was playing with the settings on my camera and screwed up the shot. Only managed a going away shot.

The 86xx's are baggage cars.

Is an 86XX not a baggage car? Might be a bit of an uncomfortable ride!

Does anyone have an interior shot of an 86xx or 81xx coach? I've been
on pretty much everything Corridor wise, including a lucky trip
sitting in a HEP-I VIA1 coach (4001) from Toronto-Ottawa when it was
in Coach service. Never been in an 81xx or 86xx.

VIA Rail Sponsors Detroit Tigers

Was at the Detroit Tigers game today, and seen a cool sight on the big
board out in Left Field. VIA Rail Sponsors the Detroit Tigers. It made
me laugh, a Canadian Railroad Company sponsoring an American Baseball
team. The main display said, 'VIA Rail, Keeping the Tiger on Track.'.
I guess they use VIA Rail when they go to Toronto for baseball games
or something of that sorts. Oh well Amtraks Loss.

I checked the files. Last year's Student Exchange
Special left Toronto on Thursday, June 29, 2006.
Robert Lubinski detailed the consist at Message 34346.

As mentioned by another listmember, last year's train
included a dining car (York) for the students. Maybe
they didn't give a dedicated dining car as much
business as was anticipated. Diner prices are on the
steep side for those not enjoying Silver and Blue
privileges.

Re: Short train - todays 671 and 76

They have been running a short consist for about a month now. I think
since University has been out, they have been running a short Consist.
I know it seems kinda odd running the train this long, it almost looks
like a 85/88 train to Sarnia. But they don't have a VIA 1 car on this
train on the weekends, so they leave that car behind in Toronto. I
think they should leave the VIA 1 car on the train, so people can have
the WiFi, but hey thats VIA for you.
