IMG: Digital Photos

PESO:

As I was moving photos between folders, I found these I hadn't seen before.
They are digital (gasp) and Canon (double gasp) but they are made with the
only Canon lens I ever liked - the 85/1.2.

The Canon 85/1.2 is almost Noctilux in it's look, but not quite. ;-)

C&C greatly appreciated.

IMG: Colors of Guatemala

PESO:

This is why I use color in Guatemala!

http://www.pbase.com/image/144436873

We conducted workshops to train health promoters from the remote mountain
villages. This Tzutujil girl is studying the book "Where There is No
Doctor" in the mountains near Lake Atitlan, Guatemala - one of the most
beautiful places on earth.

I had switched to digital before Leica came out with digital :-(

C&C greatly appreciated.

The Guatemalan Civil War lasted from 1960 to 1996 and was still going
strong in the mountains when we were there. For many years we held clinics
in three villages in the northwestern highlands - Acal, Granadillo, and
Bella Vista. The men in those villages had all been rounded up and killed
and the women raped. The villages were only women and children. The
widows refer to their children as "gifts from God".

C&C greatly appreciated. Velvia was probably not the best choice, but it's
what I had!

PESO:

In this case, using the white wall for color balancing does NOT work. I
think the green in her headdress is reflecting on the wall.

The skin color looks right on my monitor, though.

Provia is better for skin than Velvia!

C&C greatly appreciated.

Still working on the Guatemalan widows. This is Francisca. I stayed with
her family every summer from 1989 until 2006.

She is my age. Francisca could not read or write and spoke only Mam, but
her oldest daughter, Fabiana, went to school and learned to be a midwife
and a dentist. She came back to Acal and opened a 24 hour clinic to take
care of the women and children in their remote mountain village. Here is
Fabiana: http://www.pbase.com/tinamanley/image/73490469
