I have the pleasure of announcing that Felipe Martinez from Spain-San Francisco  and Maria Elena Ybarra from Buenos Aires-NYC  will be joining us for a Tango Weekend this fall, September 28th through September 30th at the Channing-Murray Foundation in Urbana,IL!

Felipe was very popular when he was here March of 2011!

Here is a video of Felipe and Maria: http://youtu.be/3qr6BJE8mYE

The weekend will feature two milongas, a performance, 7 classes and private lessons.

Topics for classes to be announced.

Felipe Martinez embodies a very fluid style of dancing, moving seamlessly through all ranges of the embrace. His dance is at once dynamic, smooth and extremely musical. As a teacher, his dedication, enthusiasm, and sheer knowledge of the dance always comes  across with great clarity. To  work with him is extremely inspiring and instills a real joy and respect for the dance. Felipe has an extensive background in other forms of movement and have been influenced by the most respected tango teachers and dancers. He is a prominent tango teacher in the San Francisco/Bay Area and shares his passion for tango all over the  US  and Europe and more recently Asia .

Maria Elena Ybarra was born in Chaco , Argentina and grew up in Buenos Aires where started to dance tango by the beginning of 2000. She studied with renowned teachers of different styles such as; Martin Ojeda, Eliana Sanchez and Dana Frigoli, Pablo Villarraza, Carlos and Maria Rivarola, Jorge Torres, Carlos and Rosa Perez, Daniel Nacucchio, Chicho Frumboli and Juana Sepulveda, Sebastian Arce and Mariana Montes, among others.

Maria believes that a grounded technique allows the follower to be active and gives the leader confidence; therefore, making the couple look connected, harmonious and elegant.

Fw: Vintage Tango- SECRET LIFE, SECRET DEATH

SECRETLIFE, SECRET DEATH TO BE SHOWN AT GENE SISKEL FILM CENTER, FRIDAY, JULY 20TH AND TUESDAY, JULY 24TH
SECRET LIFE, SECRET DEATH will be showing at the Gene Siskel Film Center on Friday, July 20th at 8:30 and Tuesday, July 24th at 8:15.  Tickets:  http://www.siskelfilmcenter.org/secretlife-secretdeath

The movie features a vintage tango I made - a pixelation of some lovely old photos in the Library of Congress.

Tango to the fantastic music of Orquesta Tipica Budapest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The song is La Cachila, [Sexy Woman] written by Eduardo Areolas

SECRET LIFE, SECRET DEATH
In this fascinating and innovative hybrid of documentary and fiction, family memoir and underworld history, artist-turned-filmmaker Davis explores the checkered life and mysterious death of her black-sheep grandmother, who was left pregnant after a youthful love affair, pimped by her Chicago gangster boyfriend, and involved in running a bordello/gambling joint in northern Wisconsin. Using montages, superimpositions, and green-screen composites, Davis interweaves present-day interviews, period reenactments, historical photographs, and vintage songs into a richly textured tapestry that she calls “a film noir docudrama.” Mini-DV video. (MR)
Director Genevieve Davis will be present for audience discussion at both screenings; actors Kjersti Beth and Brian Miracle will join her at the Friday screening.

Hope you can come.  Please share this info with your milongueros.  Trailer, description and more clips below.

Best,
