Couple of things....

1. Sunday - Emerald City

We'll have a tango dance this Sunday (June 5) at Emerald City. 7-10 pm +
No cover.

2. Tango Quick Start 
The current Quick Start class (Thursdays 7:30 pm) is now closed to new registrants. If you are dying to join
this particular class, email me.
We are offering another Quick Start in two weeks, on Mondays at pm. See http://cu-tango.com for details.

3. Tonight's Workshop!

Carlota and I are teaching "Three on the Floor" tonight. A clinic in the principles of triangulation for
stationary figures.
8:30 pm - Channing - Murray.

This workshop is for intermediate and advanced tango dancers. 
If you are a beginner, you need to take our Quick Start classes before can join workshops like these.

Issues in Arms Control (for Tango Dancing)

Dear dancers,

I am always fascinated to listen to people talk about tango. Especially beginning dancers... they usually
have fresh observations about things that I have long since taken for granted. 

For example - just last week one of the guys said:

   "Tango is hard to learn after being a salsa dancer, because in tango you use the spine to lead, not the arms."

Very interesting. And true. Not literally true, but I know what he means. And it's an important insight.

One hears similar ideas from various corners - men "lead with the chest" (not the arms). The tango "frame" is
the body, not the arms. Etc. I know what they are trying to say. It's true. 

Not literally true, though.

Without the arms you wouldn't have what we normally think of as tango. The connection of the tango couple is
based on holding. And the main thing that makes tango look the way it does is that the couple is attached
through four arms and does not separate. This arm connection results in the distinctive use of the torso
and legs that makes tango a visual spectacle of the legs and feet.

TONIGHT'S WORKSHOP

I would say that it's kind of normal for dance learners to fixate on steps, and what the feet are doing. But at
the heart of becoming a good dancer is knowing how to use the arms.

Tonight's Tango Topics Workshop is called "Embraceable You". 

It will be a clinic on how arms work on tango dancing, options, best practices, theories, myths and dogma.

We'll discuss a few concepts, try a few exercises, and then let you explore different arm techniques using
simple movements.

There are only two months left to go until Milongueando 2011, the most important event of tango milonguero
in Buenos Aires.  And this year, we're celebrating our 5th anniversary! Our 2011 teachers include
Susana Miller, Maria Plazaola, Alicia Pons, Ana Maria Shapira, El Nene Masci, Osvaldo y Coca, Julio
Dupl?a, just to name a few.

Preparations are heating up. We've reserved the mansion Dandi once again for our classes. For those of you
