SUSANA MILLER WORKSHOPS IN CHICAGO

SUSANA MILLER WORKSHOPS IN CHICAGO, JUNE 5TH AND 6TH

Don’t miss the opportunity to study with this great master teacher!!! Early bird discount expires May
9th

Susana Miller will be back in Chicago from June 3-10, 2010. She will give another series of workshops the
weekend of June 5 and 6. We have structured the classes this year for the intermediate and advanced dancer.
There will be limited enrollment. We will attempt to gender balance the enrollment so that you can find a
partner during the workshops. Individuals signing up with partners will have priority. Others can sign
up as an individual if they take the full 6 class package, or purchase a full day pass. People that sign up for
an individual class will need to sign up with a partner.

SUSANA MILLER BIO. Susana Miller is the most prominent teacher in the world today of the “milonguero"
style of tango or what Argentines call "apilado." This style is danced in the crowded clubs of central
Buenos Aires. It is a strictly social style that emphasizes musicality and the connection between
partners. Susana has researched and studied the dancing of the older milongueros, each of whom has
created their own unique style of tango. She has been able to decipher their distinct vocabularies and
choreographic combinations, and is gifted in her ability to convey these to students.

Susana encourages students to employ more rhythm in their dance, to discover their own dance
vocabularies, and to learn how to shape and shrink these in space. For women, she encourages active
following, in which the woman interprets the messages that the leader's body and the spirit are sending.
Clarin, the major Buenos Aires daily paper, called her one of the four most important influences on
contemporary tango, along with Miguel Angel Zotto, Gustavo Naveira and Gerardo Portalea.

Buenos Aires based Argentine group formed in 2001. Their innovative sound is a mixture of modern and
traditional tango with jazz, electronic and diverse South American influences. The band's names is
inspired in Argentine Diaspora, evoking "a little Argentina" in many Europeans cities.

The "Tanghetto sound" is unique; it's a fusion of diverse sources of inspiration, both contemporary and
traditional, that unite with the bandoneon, the nostalgic and characteristic instrument of the
traditional tango. Bandoneon takes the singer's role and is surrounded by diverse acoustic instruments

Re: Tonight: Tango <at> Monkey

"We are just dancing monkeys"
  - Kurt Vonnegut

Actually, we are very lucky monkeys at that:
it is quite unusual to have not one but TWO live bands of tango
musicians in a small town like ours. Personally, I look forward to the
weekend with Dorothy & friends playing at Indigo on Saturday and Tango
Espejo playing at V. Picasso on Sunday.

My thanks also to Joe for playing some spring-worthy music lately!
(Dammit, man, we need more of that.)
