Re: Saab NA auction - too painful

"NHTSA absolved GM of fault with the Volt fires"
Eric
Not to be a conspiracy guy,but do you really think that the NHTSA (now run by political appointees from the
current Washington administration)would ever find fault with GM? After all, GM is also now run by
political appointess from the current Washington administration. That is not the Chicago way.

That said, the rest of what you say is all true. GM is doing all it can to expand the Chinese market. I am sure
that in the not to distant future, all GM cars will be made there. Just think,no unions,no pensions, slave
wages and no enviromental hassles.

On a Saab related note,I just finished watching the Top Gear with the epitaph for Saab. It was great, but sad.
Should be required viewing for those who wonder why Saab should survive. A textbook example of a company
making a product to a standard,not a price point.

Making lenses?

Hi all,

i was watching a restoration show last night and at Rick's Restorations they made a new lens for a scooter.
Simple moulding process with some sort of silicone material BUT I don't know what they used to make the
transparent orange lens.

Anyone have any ideas or experience?

Thanks,

Lester

Re: Making lenses?

I carefully apply type to an email window addressed to Tom Nelson. Lenses appear in the mail a week later.
It's great.

Hello Hester,

I am not sure what show you were watching, but I own an injection molding company is southwest Kentucky.  The material that is used today to make amber lenses is a PC or Poly Carbonate material most people know this as Lexan.  There are many different types of this material.

I hope this helps.  Let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

FOR SALE: 1971 SONETT III (not sure this is okay?)

Many of you know this car, I simply do not have the time to tinker with it anymore. Never thought I would sell it
but its funny how life changes priorities.

1971 Sonett III
pictured here:
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn54/porkchop1406/Saab%20photoshoot/IMG_6168.jpg

car will come with a set(5) of the rare "square hole" rally wheels and lugs.

$7,000

If are interested email me at Craig.Scheel@... there is more new
parts into this car than I care to try to list.

some of the bigger stuff is:
New custom interior (spent the whole winter at the shop)

rebuilt 1.7l motor with Jack Ashcraft heads, mss cam, lightened flywheel, weber car, electric fuel pump,
mss exhaust, .30over pistons.

all new hydrolics from the brake master cylinder, hard brake lines, caliper seals, and a stainless braided
clutch line from chip.

new tires (4)

lots of stuff powder coated.

too many other parts to list.

Currently the motor is out of the car, I can deliver on a trailer within a reasonable distance of CT or I can put
the motor back in if the right price is agreed upon.

Thanks,

Craig

Re: [Spridgets] Making lenses?

Paul,
this was a casting not an injection process and it was a one off deal, basic silicone mould and then pouring in the plastic, some kind of PMM  I think but that is only a WAG.

Bill, this is the sort of thing that they did although this was the better way to do it.  Using vacuum always gets a better result but without it you can get a passable one.  And of course they don't offer any Amber plastic, only clear!

Good place to start though,

Thanks!

Lester

I remember it was a scooter running light lens that they cast.
