I'm very close by and have exchange email with Mark several times over
the past week. There's a queue for the car, I'm 3rd or 4th in line.
Turns out he's a Saab nut with a C900, 96 & 93 in his fleet.

Cheers,

Ken

Vintage Saab sighting - Geena Davis drives a 99 GL in "The Fly"

I awoke this morning to HBO left on from the night before,
but now showing the movie "The Fly" (Jeff Goldblum and
one of my all time favorite actresses, Geena Davis).

I'd never seen the movie before (seriously, I've never
even watched 2 minutes of it until today), but had heard
all about it when it first came out.

Somewhere towards the end of the middle third of the movie,
she pulls up Seth Brindle's (Goldblum's character) abandoned
factory complex cum mad genius laboratory apartment in a
white 99 GL. I couldn't believe it at first, but there it
was......

No beauty shots, in fact, the car is starting to rust (can
you believe it?!) -- but thought it was worth a mention here
if no one's caught this sighting before.

Fliegen Saab indeed... :^)

Re: Great Service

I seem to live in the past in many areas....

Remember I was relating my experience years ago with JCWitless?
Typically, you filled out the order form, mailed it in along with a
check, then waited and waited and waited. Six weeks go by and
finally you get a package...with maybe half of your stuff. The
other have has the dreaded "BO" stamped on the packing sheet. BO-
Back Ordered. Six months later you get half of the Back Ordered
stuff, with the other half marked "Discontinued".

So these days, I get all excited when something ships the day it was
ordered. Little things like this bring me happiness!

Yeh but Chip is still the exception to the rule. Most small
businesses can't be bothered to ship for just one customer and have
one or two designated shipping days a week.

Re: Great Service

Agreed! And if perchance its something he doesn't have (or chooses
not to carry), then he knows where to find it!

I'm finding the majority of the VSaab suppliers are really really
good. Jack Lawrence at MSS rebuilt my gearbox last year in less
then a week- door-to-door was like 8 days or something. I got some
stuff from Rolf Jensen in Sweden last fall and that was about a
week. Most amazing was an order with a place called the Saab Site-
I called the order in on a Monday morning and it arrived UPS the
next afternoon in CowTown, Vermont.

When I worked at the little foreign car garage in Marlborough NH in 1973,
we could get four hour service via UPS from the SAAB dealer in Claremont.
If we called Dean Hill Motors before 10:00, the part would be picked up and
return to Keene in time to be sorted at noon and be delivered to us by 2:00
in the afternoon.

A friend of mine who worked for the US Department of Transportation in the
early '70s (Martt drove two SAAB 96s) said to me one time that in this day
and age, there's no reason for anyone to be more than 48 hours from any
part for any car made. That was long _before_ the Internet and the dealer
networks barely had anything computerized at the warehouse, let alone
knowing what the individual dealers had on their shelves. Today, with some
makes, they can tell you if another local dealer has it before they order
it from the warehouse.

Dean Hill was our local Saab dealer. Back in the day, they were awesome.
Tops in customer service. Didn't take long for new owners to kill the
place, according to my parents. Very sad.
