needs more comments.  It's not a mystery car after all, and not a saab.

Re: 65 Taunus on eBay

I wrote to him and explicitely told him what it is, and how the Taunus 12M
grew out of Detroit's Cardinal project, and that the engine, developed in
Detroit, was given to Ford of Germany as part of the project, and that SAAB
found it to be a suitable engine to replace their two-stroke, in part
because Ford had used SAABs as a test bed (at least that's the story that I
heard thirty-some years ago) and Ford had already done much of the
development work that SAAB would have had to do.

He's just dense...

Jon Dennis's Swedish Festival Photos

I'm not sure if Jon has tooted his own horn here, so let me toot. This
is simply the best single collection of SAAB photos I've seen. Make
sure you have a few minutes, grab some ice cream, pour a beverage,
whatever suits, then go to this link

http://www.saabfans.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=985

Now, click View Slideshow in the left nav (not full screen, that doesn't
work as well for me)
Set the delay to maybe 3 seconds unless you have a lot of time
Set the size to maybe 1024 x 1024, definitely bigger than the default 320

Now, sit back and kick yourself for not going to Sweden in June. Hit
pause whenever you like.

And somebody please, find Jon a Jubilee edition 96...

Re: Jon Dennis's Swedish Festival Photos

Aww shucks, Thor, I really appreciate that! In light of your comments I went and added the remaining 25 or so photos I had of the event so it's all there now.

I'll be honest in saying that the 60th anniversary Saab Festival was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. It was great to see cars and people from all over the world. I had the good fortune of meeting Knut Boe, the owner of the immaculate original condition 1972 picture here:

http://www.saabfans.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=2161
http://www.saabfans.com/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=2164

He had driven from Norway by himself to attend the Festival and ended up across the table from us at the Festival Dinner. His father purchased that car brand new, having traded in his stroker for it.

How could you tell that the 1980 96 Jubilee is my favorite Saab of all time? ;-)

Re: Jon Dennis's Swedish Festival Photos

Wow.  Nice photos man!   Makes me really want a Speedpilot and a set of Minilites!  haha

What is the Sonnet-looking red sports car?  Special 1-off body?         And who knows the story behind the twin engine stroker?

Re: 65 Taunus on eBay

OK, so is the Taunus a front wheel drive car, and if so does it actually have a Saab gearbox? I had always assumed that they were rear wheel drive, now this guy has me confused!

Re: Jon Dennis's Swedish Festival Photos

Jonathan,

That's terrific to hear, especially with the VSAAB
parts you were looking for that did not turn up at the
parts sale. Did you end up finding them elsewhere
though?

It was great to finally meet you by the way.
