Re: Weekend 96 wrenching

Yeah, I swapped out the overdrive unit in a '83 245DL I had and I remember they specified ATF. There shouldn't be too much crap in the gearbox I'm putting in the 96 since it  only has about 10k on the rebuild, but I just want to be safe as it's been sitting. I'm looking forward to having functional freewheel again.

It shouldn't hurt it. I think it was in 1976 that Volvo started using
ATF in their manual transmissions with overdrive. ATF is a high
pressure lubricant, but much thinner than regular gear oil. My old
boss in Maryland raced a Formula Vee and used two tubes of Molycoat
and half a can of ATF in his "long track" early 36-HP Bug transmission.

Re: Dash pad adhesive

So it should only be held in place by clips on the back and the trim strip on the front?

Fender Welting/Trim

I was told by someone a while ago that it was still possible to get fender welting from a SAAB dealer if you had
the part number. Unfortunatly I don't have the part number any longer (written on a scrap at the time... bad
things happened). Does anyone have the right part numbers? I have some replacement stuff in a roll but I
would much rather use the real thing.

Thanks,
David

It's not true, but I have some cut to correct lengths here out of Sweden
which is perfect - 95/96 in stock.

Chip
Bought the last factory fender welting and cleaned them out of it in 2002.

I would use polyurethane glue, the same as the foam. The only problem might be that the glue expands while
hardening, so you have to keep an even pressure on the foam until the glue has hardened.

PVGP Schenely Park race videos

Hello,
I've posted two videos from the PVGP Schenely races... Mine in the Formula
S (Group 3) and Dad's in the Sonett (Group 6).

My race was blessedly lacking in drama this year. After the excitement
I've had at this race over the last three years... Having *only* to fight
an ill handling car that was running poorly was a great relief.

7 minutes long

Dad's race went much better than expected! The Sonett really overworks
those poor (front) Dunlop Ls and the car got kinda slippy mid-race. Still,
coming second to a BMW 2002 on modern race tires and in front of the rest
of the cars on modern race tires is better than we'd hoped the car could
manage! Maybe next year our competitors would prefer we run on the same
tires as they? I've got a 6 year old set of Kumhos that have been sitting
in my basement since I stopped autocrossing... ;)

8 minutes long

Enjoy.
I'm currently working on my videos from BeaveRun and VIR earlier this
year. Stay tuned.

I fixed it!

I did it. I finally did it. I "rebuilt" my bad slave cylinder with
the guts from the other one that has the stripped threads. Now it
seals perfectly and no air gets back in when I bleed it! I just did
what one of you said (sorry, i foregt which one of you): I bled the
line normally, then openned up the hose fitting and bled out its
little bubble. Perfection! I took the car up and down the driveway
about 6 times to adjust the clutch freeplay, and now the thing is as
smooth as can be! Now we take it to the specialists for the wiring,
while I order new brake cables from Scandix! I am a happy boy!

Now that you're done, make sure you wash the brake fluid out of the
floor of the engine compartment.
