DETROIT (Reuters) - The Chevrolet Spark [EV] subcompact car will cost U.S.
buyers as much as 38 percent less than what it takes to buy its larger
sibling, the Volt [pih/phev], General Motors Co said on Thursday.

The 2014 Spark EV, which goes on sale next month in California and Oregon,
will sell for as low as $19,995 after accounting for the full federal tax
credit of $7,500, GM said. The larger Chevy Volt, which was introduced in
the fall of 2010, sells for about $32,500 after the tax credit.

"The Chevrolet Spark EV is the most efficient - and now one of the most
affordable - EVs you can buy," Chris Perry, GM's vice president of Chevrolet
marketing, said in a statement.

It's been a few years since Infiniti confirmed it was working on a luxury
sedan based on the Nissan Leaf, but little extra information has emerged
since then.

Autocar reports the firm is still working on such a vehicle--it's just
waiting for inductive charging technology to become commonplace, first.

Infiniti's luxury electric vehicle would be a compact-sized sedan, based on
the same platform and running gear as the Nissan Leaf--Nissan being
Infiniti's parent company.

Previewed in the 2012 Infiniti LE Concept, the all-electric sedan would be
far more dramatically styled than the Leaf, with more aggressive, flowing
lines.

Westinghouse motor - what can it do?

Not sure if it is a starter motor or a generator. It is DC, pretty sure
just series as it only has 2 leads. Wanting to get opinions on whether
this would carry a typical 300# scooter with 300# (2 of us) payload at
40-45mph minimum.

Specs on motor plate say
For V. sys - 24
Volts - 27
Amps - 90
Duty - CONT
RPM - 8000

Appreciate opinions and what those are based upon.

Thanks

The 10-year Battery

In 2003, I bought a LCD watch that had a 90mAh lithium battery. Just last
week, the cell finally went dead. By my calculations, that's only 1uA (3uW)
average. Now if I could only make my EV that efficient!
Bill

recharging dead lfps

I have some dead / or .5 volt or less lfps 40 TS . at what rates amps should I charge them . .1 c .

e-volks upgrade....

So... a client of mine got a converted VW bug with the wilderness EV kit --
the kit#2, so it's a 6.7" series DC, 450 amp alltrax, 72 volt system with
six 12 volt 100AH gel batteries, no DC-DC, very little instrumentation,
crude offboard transformer 10A charger. Right now, the car can move
itself around the yard, and that's about it. They said they did get it up
to about 40mph on the flat before it died though. Only 20mph even on very
slight upgrades.

Here's what I'm thinking of for upgrades.... they want a good solid
50miles range, and enough speed to keep up in city traffic (45mph, a few
small hills, but not climbing big ones).

Figure out if any of the current batteries are any good.... (some are brand
new, so they should be).

Better charger (not sure the old one is working at all, which could explain
why the main bank is not doing well).

Think about lithium batteries/smart charger/ and higher voltage

DC-DC converter

Is the Alltrax any good? or should I think about a better controller? It
looks tiny for a roadgoing EV, no heatsink even. This one can't take
higher voltage anyway.

Lithium batteries? Not sure that getting solid 50 miles on lead is
possible in this car without seriously overloading it.

Is the 6.7" series DC motor enough for this heavy of a car?

EVLN: Tesla pays off $465 million U.S. loan nine years early

The co-founder of Tesla Motors set another milestone for his electric car
company today by making a final $451.8 million payment on the $465 million
loan from the U.S. government — nine years earlier than scheduled. The
massive payment came courtesy of a stock offering last week that raised $1
billion for the California automaker, made possible after it revealed its
first quarterly profit. The move makes Tesla the only automaker to have paid
back its Department of Energy loan in full — yet another talking point for
Musk's EV drive.

Now comes the hard part.

Fans of electric cars rejoice, another EV has hit the market.

The smart Electric Drive (or “ED”) represents the electrification of smart’s
popular ‘fortwo’ city sweeper. Only now, in place of a gasoline engine,
there’s a 55-kilowatt (73hp) electric motor co-developed by Daimler and
Bosch.

I recently had a chance to take the smart ED on a brief spin through the
streets of Portland, Oregon and found that for a car labeled as smart, the
ED sure makes a lot of sense.

Let’s start with the electric motor and battery since those are the biggest

Someone interested in an AVCON connector or converter cable to the new J1772 charging standard?

I bought an older style AVCON charger (EVI DS-50) and I will remove

the AVCON connector that it comes with, to put a new J1772 "pistol" on
it.

So if someone has an EV with the AVCON inlet then

I can provide him with a conversion cable to connect to the new

J1772 charging stations and plug into the AVCON of his EV,

because I do not need the AVCON connector and the cable is

too long anyway, so all it takes for me is to hook up the socket

where the new J1772 charger "pistol" plugs into, at the end of

the cable still attached to the AVCON connector.

Let me know,
