It's not conventionally 'pretty' by any means. It's pleasantly semi-rural at

the bottom, then after the racecourse it becomes distinctly urban and
somewhat industrial all the way to the top. A very interesting flight
nonetheless.

Audlem, on the other hand, is a lovely, picturesque flight for almost all
its length.

I am regularly around Devizes (as helm or crew on Kenavon Venture, the trip
boat that moors at Devizes Wharf). I will look out for you, any clues when
you will be at Devizes??? Possibly could help locking through flight if I am
available (and if you wanted some help of course).

Hi Terry,

Thanks for that. From the information we have, I think we will be at Devizes
on 18/19th August or thereabouts. Locking crew are always very welcome, let
me have your mobile (off list) and I will be in touch nearer the time.

Cheers
A

Interesting point on Standedge tunnel being accesible to all - we took father through on one of Shire
Cruisers boats (in the tug towed days) and there was a lot of BW debate before we were allowed to take him on
(in his early 90s) in case he was unable to use the exits in case of emergency. Have things changed?

Chesterfield Canal Trust - People's Millions

I hope you won't mind me drawing this to your attention... It's a bit of a plug but very canal-related.

A Chesterfield Canal Trust project has been selected for the Jubilee Peoples Millions in the ITV Yorkshire
& Humberside Region.

Our project is called Electric Aven'Hugh. It is for an electric powered boat which will be fully accessible
for the disabled, with an electro-hydraulic system to enable any user to steer the boat from anywhere
within it, regardless of disability. It will be based at Kiveton Park. It is supported by Wales High School
and Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice.

There's more information on our web site here:

http://www.chesterfield-canal-trust.org.uk/millions

...and on the People's Millions site here:

http://www.peoplesmillions.org.uk/2011-finalists/yorkshire

(If anyone is wondering where the name came from, it's a nod in the direction of Hugh Henshall, one of the
builders of the canal and a pupil of James Brindley)

The telephone vote is on 27th June. If we are to be successful, we will need the votes of as many people as
possible. Please feel free to contact myself or our publicity officer Rod Auton
publicity@... for more information.

Laptop Physical Problem (Accident)

Hiya,

Toni has unfortunately spilled some liqueur on the keyboard (Around Christmastime).

There are 3 or 4 keys that are still "sticky " and it is impossible for her to "touch-type".

What is the best method of rescuing the situation.
It is a DELL laptop 17" - (Don't know what model).

(With my Sony Vaio keyboard, I can remove each named key carefully and this allows the underside of the key to
be delicately cleaned) I don't know if the Dell is similar and don't want to break a key trying.

Alternatively, is there a spirit based material (Aerosol packed?) that could be sprayed under the keys to
soften up and remove the said sticky sugary substance?

Help appreciated, without going to an expensive repair shop - if possible.

Can you get the service tag number off the bottom of the machine? You
can check availability of spares on the Dell web site.

Acrylic problem

I know that acrylic is not a thermo-plastic (at least, I don't think
that it is .. LOL) but I need to put a slight bend into a small bit of
acrylic and I wondered if it was possible to do it with a little heat
application - can anybody here help me on this problem?

The part is roughly 2" x 1" - and, unfortunately, it is the only piece
of that particular material which I have, so I can't experiment first :-(

The *good news* is that I finished my hospital appointments on Thursday
afternoon with the fantastic news that the groups of suspect cells which
they found inside me a little earlier this year had absolutely nothing
to do with any recurrence of the cancers I've had treatments for over
the last couple of years so - no operation, no chemo, in 2011 - just
another carpel tunnel op. due sometime in the summer, and I eat those
for breakfast <g> .. I suddenly feel (almost) healthy - for the first
time in nearly five years!

Noelle says its the power of prayer, I put it down to healthy living
(ahem!) and plenty of exercise and fresh air - I guess its lots of both,
but either way I feel extremely chuffed right now :-)
