Severn Estuary July Expeditions (XP)

After several months being accused of "knowing about flotillas bound
for Bristol" when in fact I had no information I can now confirm that
at least 3 narrowboats are planning on leaving Sharpness on Monday 3rd
July, or as soon as the weather permits therafter.

Additionally, after the Lydney Extravanza weekend 15/16 July, there is
an embryonic discussion along the lines that a small party of craft
will go on to Bristol.

Anyone wanting to be put in touch with these groups, let me know.

Too right Sue! I think you'll find a lot of people will disagree.

I think the population of this ng and membership of Cutweb is a
fair example of the real mix of new boats, old boats, new
owners, long term owners and younger & older boaters.

In that group, how many fit your description of 'creating a them
& us attitude' & 'owners of expensive boats wanting the rougher
ones removed'? Frankly, I think that is rubbish and just the sort
of comment that might well be thought devisive.

Sometimes its better to think before you type......

Cheers..

I suspect most members of this list don't think that way but there are
certainly a growing body of owners who, when they do venture out of the
safety of their marina, are afraid of there boat being damaged if it
comes anywhere near these older rough boats.

The washing machine was quoted at 485 and the silent genny to run it at 3000+ then there was installing the
lot. I don't need the genny for anything else. I lost interest and put a sack of dog food in the cupboard. I
agree the secondhand option is cheaper.

Probably is realistic if you look at rebuild costs - on one hand these
boats need to have a value which reflects the cost of keeping them
running, on the other the high values make it difficult to get new
people involved with them.

Me thinks you will be dismantling the dreaded grey box. Is your resident
electrical expert still with you or has he gone off on his summer cruise?

Kismet Hols 2006 LLangollen - Day 8

Day 8 - Saturday 1st July 2006

At about 22:30 two fire engines came along the road and stopped near the
pub. A garage was on fire across the way. They soon put it out, and relative
quiet descended again. I don't know what caused it.

The hire boat left the moorings this morning at 6am. They didn't rev the
engine this time at least. We got up at about 10:30, and now we wait for
Julie to arrive. She called at about 13:00, saying that she was leaving. She
only had directions to Stoke on Trent, so we had to devise another route to
get her here at Milton.

At about 14:00 a group of late teens, early 20 somethings came into the beer
garden. One of them tried to get into the BW workboat moored only a couple
of feet in front. He soon gave in, but later after finding the remains of a
boat hook tried to prise the hatch open. He was trying for a good few
minutes, until a police siren made him turn around and see me watching him
from inside the boat, when he gave up and went back to the group sat at the
table. These idiots act like errant six year olds.

Julie arrived at 16:10, just in time for the beginning of the England
Portugal game, and so we passed the luggage through a gap in the wall. A van
was blocking the gate, so, while we waited we went shopping.

We had to wait until the football finished before getting the van moved, and
we finally got underway at 19:30. We stopped just below the locks at
Stockton Brook at 21:30.
