Heh, it’s this, and generally just getting the chance to meet up with
people that I have been to the expo for previously.

I find the expo itself far too corporate for my liking, and end up
loitering around the .org village. If I decide to go I could probably
use a few moments of my loitering to do some evangelism.

The gods have spoken. Well, 14 enthusiastic technologists have ticked
some boxes on a web page which is *almost* as impressive, and forced
upon us an ideal date.

The next Co-working Manchester day will take place at Manchester
Science Park from 9:30am on the 7th August 2008.

I apologise for the late run on this e-mail but it's been rather
hectic here at Co-working Organisation HQ.

We're in the building called "Greenheys" somewhere around about here:

http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=M15+6JJ

Specifically, Unit 45 of Greenheys, Manchester Science Park, M15 6JJ.

We're going to be doing the usual mixture of co-working with breakout
sessions as and when we feel the need. There will be WiFi, coffee,

Anyone want to coordinate a FSUK meet-up near the expo? There are a
few good bars nearby, or a hall in a street behind that can be hired
(and I'll find the contact info if wanted).

I think a bar would be a good idea. Of course, I'm not sure if I can
make it and if I do it will just be for the Thursday day time.

It's a good idea, but can we find out which day the Lonix [1]
meet-up is, so we don't clash?
Alternately if we have it *immediately* after the expo,
people can go to both, or have time to get the train
back to Mcr if they're only down for a day.

[1] Eight years of two-day expos have given rise to the
tradition of the Lonix booze-up after the first day
of the expo (in a pub in Notting Hill), and the
Debian meet-up after the second day (in a nearby pub).

Three days of expo opens up whole new vistas of
    liver damage ;^)

Assuming I go, why not?

The past two times I have stayed at the Hand and Flower, just over the
road and down a bit from Olympia, so if anyone wants to share a room
let me know. It could also be a good meeting place.

Normally the Lonix guys do a meetup in some pub that feels miles away
too.

Thinking about it (briefly), do we really want/need something more
than a chat in a pub? We can always find a corner at the Lonix
meetup.

hi all,

The next mySociety Manchester Meetup will be on Weds 20th
August in the Briton's Protection at 7:30 till 9ish.

Informally covering the range of remotely mySociety antics,
and anything else we fancy :)

You don't need to have done anything technical, a fresh
approach is enough. If you can't make it this month, just
come along next time, dates and beer mat minutes will be
posted to our mailing list.

This is the latest in the series of regular social events in
Manchester on the third Wednesday of the month (next up 30th
August, 17 Sept, 15th Oct).

We'll probably be in one of the back rooms; Look for the

Admin/Social Meet on Monday

Just a reminder that the next administrative meeting is on Monday 11th
August, starting at 7pm at the Waterhouse[1]. The meeting is expected to
last about an hour and will be followed by a social meet/drinking.
Everyone is welcome to come to either/both and there's normally
someone around from about 6pm.

The agenda hasn't yet been set, so if there's anything you want
brought up please let us know! The agenda and minutes will appear as
usual at

Raising Our Profile

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to work out ways in which we can promote the Manchester Free
Software group more widely, particularly to nontechnical audiences. If you
look at our list of regular publicity avenues at
http://groups.fsf.org/index.php/Manchester/Meetings/Publicity you will see
that they're mostly geek-oriented.

There should be plenty of groups and individuals in Manchester who'd be
interested in our talks, and in free software in general, but currently we're
not reaching them. I'd welcome suggestions for ways to reach out with our
message beyond the technical arena. Currently the only real way we're doing
that is Indymedia, which is a left-slanted new publishing site where many
people interested in ideas of freedom will read it.
