What is a guard at Abu Ghraib doing with a tattoo like this?
The soldiers, all from the Fort Campbell, Ky.-based 101st Airborne Division's 187th Infantry Regiment, are accused of killing three Iraqi men taken from a house May 9 on a marshy island outside Samarra, about 60 miles north of Baghdad.
Staff Sgt. Raymond L. Girouard, Spc. William B. Hunsaker, Pfc. Corey R. Clagett and Spc. Juston R. Graber have claimed they were ordered to "kill all military age males" during the raid on the island. According to statements from some of the soldiers, they were told the target was an al-Qaida training camp.

By an amazing coincidence, the movie "'Breaker' Morant" was on TV this afternoon. The film is based on the true story of three British soldiers who were scapegoated for British abuses during the Second Boer War and punished (some say framed) by the British to prove to the Afrikaner Government that Britain intended to obey the civil laws following a peace agreement.
Now, without knowing the exact details either of the Morant case or the present one, allow me to say just this; bad things happen in wars. People are shooting at our soldiers, people not in uniforms. Our kids don't know who they are supposed to shoot. In the other case involving rape and the subsequent murder of the victim and her family to cover it up, there is no question of guilt. But in this case, where there is the possibility of an order to kill "all military age males", there is a reasonable doubt that these soldiers did anything "wrong" in the context of being in a combat zone and under fire.
Ultimately, I must view the suggestion of a trial of these soldiers by a government that lied them (and us) into the war in the first place, to be followed by the crimes of Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo as the ultimate in self-serving hypocrisy.
Let us put those leaders who lied to start this war on trial, not the soldiers who are simply trying to obey orders in a war they know to be morally wrong.
However, President Bush does not have the authority to launch a war on Iran, as Congress has not authorized such a war, and it must under the Constitution.

Beyond just starving the public schools of essential resources, the abolition of the DCD is meant to drive teachers out of the state of Florida. Outside of the profession itself, maybe Dr. Crew understands better than anybody what is at stake in current contract negotiations. If current trends hold up, half the new teachers hired in Miami-Dade will be gone in five years, 15% of the currently employed teachers will be gone next year, and any chance to genuinely reform the schools through the Zone or Secondary School Reform will go up in smoke. Yet it is impossible to squeeze blood from a turnip and Bush has seen to it that turnips are what the district has to work with.

Mr. Epstein pleaded not guilty in August to the crime he was ultimately charged with, soliciting prostitution. But at a time when prosecutors around the nation have become increasingly severe in dealing with people accused of sex offenses, the case has raised questions about whether Mr. Epstein’s prominence won him preferential treatment.
By the account of the police, they found probable cause to charge Mr. Epstein with much more serious offenses: one count of lewd and lascivious molestation and four counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.
But instead of proceeding with such charges on his own, the Palm Beach County state attorney took the rare step of presenting a broad range of possible charges to a grand jury, which indicted Mr. Epstein in July on the lesser count. In Florida, prosecutors usually refer only capital cases to grand juries.

If Bush really did see an airplane on TV hitting the World Trade Center then he saw that the aircraft was under control at the time, and he saw it before arriving at Booker Elementary because he was en route to the school when the first plane struck WTC 1 - a closed-circuit live feed to his limo is the only way he could have seen this impact on TV.

While the world focused on Lebanon, the Israeli government inflicted more suffering on Palestine, especially in Gaza. July was the deadliest month since October 2004. The percentage of deaths rose 222% from the month before, injuries over 200%. The Palestinian Monitoring Group reports at least 151 people were killed between June 25, when an Israeli soldier was kidnapped, and August 8. Of these, 138 were civilians and about 45 children. This surge compares with the former highest monthly total of 166 in October 2004. Other sources, including the PLO, put the total closer to 200.

Israel's recent massive destruction of Lebanon's infrastructure and her purposeful targeting of its civilian population was a long-planned act of revenge against Hezbullah, a voluntary militia, formed after Israel's 1982 invasion, which continued to harass the IDF (Israeli Defense Force) in southern Lebanon, finally forcing them out in 2000. As Agent France Press reported from Beirut on July 12th: "The two Israeli soldiers captured by Hezbullah in Lebanese territory in the area of Aitta al-Chaab near Israel's borderÉ were to be traded for the over 9000 Lebanese prisoners long held by Israel."

Translation: We are losing the local conflicts, so let's start a war we can drag the Americans into!
Of all the things about the president’s war on terrorism that can be criticized, the biggest is the notion that it deserves to be called a "war." But Bush and Cheney insist that it is a war, and they want to boost the Special Forces and the new Special Operations Command to fight it. However, a new report from the GAO notes that the administration hardly has any idea what the new, gung-ho Special Ops people might do.
What exactly are these guys going to do? Invade the suburbs of London? Attack mosques in Germany? Goosestep down streets in Amsterdam to intimidate radical Muslims there? Coren is so blinded by the neocon ideology, with its Manichean, dualistic core of cartoonish good versus evil, he is sincerely incapable of comprehending the indisputable and horrific fact that a “limited nuclear attack” would certainly not be limited, would not be contained. For as science reminds us, “unfissioned nuclear material, and weapon residues which have been vaporized by the heat of the fireball will condense into a fine suspension of very small particles 0.01 to 20 micrometers in diameter. These particles may be quickly drawn up into the stratosphere…. They will then be dispersed by atmospheric winds and will gradually settle to the earth’s surface after weeks, months, and even years as worldwide fallout,” although this danger is somewhat reduced with bunker buster mini-nukes. “Atmospheric winds are able to distribute fallout over large areas” (Nuclear Weapon Radiation Effects, Federation of American Scientists).

According to accounts of the meeting by MPs who were present, Mr Diskin painted a bleak picture of the growing arsenal of weapons being assembled in Gaza, with Hezbollah's help, for use against Israel. In addition to Katyusha rockets with a 10-mile range, dozens of anti-tank missiles, rocket-propelled grenades, 15 tons of explosives, 15,000 guns and four million rounds of ammunition had been smuggled across the Egyptian border through a network of around 20 tunnels, Mr Diskin said.

As the government thrashes around trying to prop up the 9-11 mythology, one of the questions they cannot answer and will not even attempt to answer is this one:
With a supposedly unknown number of planes flying across the nation and crashing into buildings, with Bush's presence at Booker Elementary School announced in the media three days in advance, and with an airport just four miles away, how did the United States Secret Service know that Bush was safe where he sat reading about goats? How did the United States Secret Service know that they were not making targets of all those teachers and children by keeping them in that room with the President? How did the United States Secret Service know that they did not need to drag Bush from that room and toss him into the back of his armored limousine? How did the United States Secret Service KNOW FOR A FACT that President Bush was not a target that day?
Because they knew in advance what the targets would be.
It appears the government is really starting to run scared about 9/11 now.

Why?
Why do men who plan to kill themselves need to cover their tracks?
Maybe someone intending to commit a terror attack and blame it on an innocent party needs to steal identities and cover their tracks, but real terrorists publicly claim responsibility, announce who they are, so that the act of terror becomes linked with their socio-political agenda.
Anything connected with 9-11 that involves "covering their tracks" is proof that there is a frame-up taking place.

And if you stop using the US dollar . . . you can continue to sell oil, but insist on being paid in euros, or yen, or whatever. More broadly, the shooting underscores two fundamentally different views of the uneasy truce that has held in southern Lebanon for the past two weeks. Secretary General Kofi Annan cited numbers from the United Nations forces on Tuesday indicating that Israel had violated the cease-fire nearly 70 times, while Hezbollah had done so only 4 times. But the Israelis do not believe there is a cease-fire to violate. “We are at a cessation of hostilities in Lebanon, not a cease-fire,” Ms. Eisin said. She added that Israel had the explicit right to self-defense under United Nations Resolution 1701, which does not use the term cease-fire.
That difference is apparent every day across southern Lebanon. Israeli tanks crisscross the dry brown hills, shooting into the fields and smashing up houses and stone walls. Teams of Israeli soldiers have planted their nation’s flag atop bluffs here and sometimes detained Lebanese men, releasing them days later. No one seems to know where the mobile Israeli units are based, or how to avoid them.

Israel last night rejected Syria's pledge to Kofi Annan, the United Nations secretary general, that it would prevent weapons being smuggled to Hizbollah across its border with Lebanon.
''Experience has taught us to be sceptical about undertakings made by Syria," said Mark Regev, a senior spokesman for the Israeli foreign ministry.

Anthropologists have a long history of being uncertain about how close they should get to the U.S. government. Many anthropologists helped intelligence agencies in World War I and World War II, but from Vietnam on, most have resisted any such work. And for most of that time, the Pentagon and CIA have not exactly been calling anthropology departments looking for guidance.
But post-9/11, everything is different. New federal fellowships aim to provide government support for graduate work in anthropology (and other fields helpful for understanding global cultures) in return for pledges of working for the government. This year, the Central Intelligence Agency posted some job ads on the American Anthropological Association Web site, and when the CIA tried to have those ads appear in the association’s journals, some took them and others turned them down — amid considerable debate among members.

But court records released since then suggest that what Gonzales called a "deadly plot" was virtually the pipe dream of a few disgruntled men with almost no ability to pull it off. The suspects have raised questions in court about the FBI informers' role in keeping the plan alive.

While the Coast Guard prefers to call the 34 test-fire areas "safety zones," a spokesperson concedes they're designed to provide "operational readiness" for national security, defence and maritime law enforcement. He also conceded there's no plan to alert Canadian boaters or harbourmasters to the tests.

Opium cultivation in Afghanistan is spiraling out of control, rising 59 percent this year to produce a record 6,100 tons — nearly a third more than the world's drug users consume, the U.N. said Saturday.

That's funny, because when the Taliban ran the place, Opium was pretty much nonexistent. Now that the US is in control, it is at record levels.

"The High-Level Commission of Inquiry was established in August by a resolution of the Council which mandated it to investigate the systematic targeting and killings of civilians by Israel, examine the types of weapons used by Israel and their conformity with international law, and assess the extent and deadly impact of Israeli attacks on human life, property, critical infrastructure and environment," said the UN.

There is something sad about a grown man playing children's make-believe war games in a tree house in grandpa's back yard - which is how President George W. Bush came across Thursday night in his speech on the importance of winning the war in Iraq in the global battle against terrorism. Rarely does a leader of a great country like the United States malign history, his people's intelligence and the dignity of over a billion Muslims in one speech, but Bush did that Thursday night and will probably keep doing it for a while.

I think it's very hard to trust this administration in anything they say about the war." --- Al Franken,

The dollar's early afternoon recovery, in the wake of a solid US jobs report for August, came to an abrupt halt on mounting concerns that the US housing market is teetering on the verge of collapse.
The National Association of Realtors revealed that pending home sales slumped by 7 pct in July to their lowest level in three years. Its pending home sales index, based on contracts signed in July, fell to a seasonally adjusted 105.6 in July from a downwardly revised 113.5 in June.

Well, I'm a gracious person. But, I also think that all of us have a far greater role than just ceremonial. Rather than just stand there politely and give standing ovations to a president who has done so much damage to our nation, we all have a tremendous moral responsibility to stand up and oppose our president when we see him taking our president in such a wrong direction. I don't think that it could have been better said than by Theodore Roosevelt who noted that those who say that we should stand behind a president, right or wrong, are not only servile and unpatriotic, but morally treasonable to the American public and [these] were great patriots standing up out of love for their country yesterday, voicing their opposition to this admininstration.

What this article does NOT mention is the traces of highly enriched uranium found on Iraqi equipment that was thought to have been planted by US "inspectors". When asked if the shield could protect the United States from a North Korean missile attack, Mr. Rumsfeld said he’d need to see a full test of the system “end to end” before he could answer.

The ordinary rules of morality don't apply to the IDF: Gillerman and his government are explicitly rejecting international moral norms, asserting that Israel has the right to commit any atrocity in the name of "self-defense." And if their "defense" requires the reduction of Lebanon to rubble, then so be it. Such is the creed of the new Israeli Overman.
n normal society, individuals who live by this Nietzschean code of anti-ethics are called sociopaths. Most wind up behind bars. Others find employment in the various branches of government.

Gadahn has become a cause célèbre for the American right, a made-to-order American traitor from central casting. What if he really was manufactured? His confused background, with a detour through heavy metal, his moving in with his grandparents (grandfather on the ADL board), his rare internet essay anachronistically written from a Zionist perspective and not the perspective of the American government in 1995 (as if the Zionists had already written the post-September 11 script), his immediate ‘conversion’ to Islam and association with ‘radical’ Muslims – it’s all just a bit too contrived. We have seen other examples of how Israel has infiltrated Islamist organizations (most recently in Lebanon). Have the Zionists infiltrated al Qaeda at its highest levels? Or is it more accurate to look at al Qaeda as a ‘false flag’ Zionist organization?

There is something fishy about this story. Why would this man go to the UK embassy to ask for asylum when it is obvious the UK is totally supportive of Israel? Clearly, the British Government allowed the Israeli commandos to come into the embassy to remove the man.
Why did he not go to the embassy of another country?
Amidst all the discussion and debate about whether President Bush has violated the law by ordering the National Security Agency (NSA) to record telephone conversations, we must not overlook an important fact: the United States is now traveling in uncharted waters, ones in which the ruler of the nation is exercising omnipotent power over the American people. A more appropriate word would be one that offends some Americans when it is applied to their system of government: dictatorship. But as uncomfortable as that term might make Americans, the fact is that ever since 9/11 Americans have been living under dictatorial rule.
What is a dictator? A dictator is a ruler whose powers are omnipotent, that is, unconstrained by external or superior law. A dictator has the power to take whatever actions he wants without concerning himself about whether they are legal. Anything the dictator does is legal because he is the law.
