The annual report, issued yesterday by the trustees who monitor the fiscal health of the Medicare and Social Security programs, said the trust fund for the health insurance system for the elderly will run out of money in 2018 -- two years sooner than predicted a year ago and 12 years sooner than had been anticipated when President Bush first took office.

Anthony Summers, in his Nixon bio, tells us (in a footnote!) that, according to Moore, the CIA had set up clandestine cameras in Xaviera's bedroom, in order to get blackmail material on Washington pols and visiting Arab potentates.
The Arabs requested non-Jewish girls. At the time, nobody knew that Xaviera was Jewish (on her father's side).

The issue is that Iran should not be subjected to punitive sanctions for exercising the same rights enjoyed by the Permanent Five members of the Security Council as well as Germany, Brazil and Japan. To do so would be to undermine the very legitimacy of the UN and its most powerful organ, which has yet to recover fully from the United States' Machiavellian manipulations with regard to Iraq three years ago.
Yet, US officials have yet to show any signs of grasping the potentially adverse consequences, for the UN as well as the future of the Middle East, if their meritless push for UN sanctions is adopted. Their current drive needs to be rethought in the light of a more sound grasp of the existing alternatives.

These rallies are not supporting immigrants, as the CNN sub-head suggests. These rallies support ILLEGAL immigrants. There is a difference. These are people who, regardless of motive, are law-breakers in this country, flaunting laws little different from those in their own country.
I don't have a problem with anyone wishing to live in the US as long as they obey the laws, just as we who were born here have to do. And those laws include a specific process to follow to become a US citizen.
But granting amnesty to illegals is a slap in the face of all those immigrants who have come here legally and went through the long and costly process to become citizens, and who DO obey the laws of the land.
Intellectuals can only dream of having the impact that John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt have had this spring. Within hours of their publishing a critique of the Israel lobby in The London Review of Books for March 23, the article was zinging around the world, soon to show up on the front pages of newspapers and stir heated discussion on cable-TV shows. Virtually overnight, two balding professors in their 50s had become public intellectuals, ducking hundreds of e-mails, phone messages and challenges to debate.

In the past few months, four of those agencies have had Cuba travel licenses suspended. Six religious organizations have also had their licenses suspended. The Foreign Assets Control office would not provide the names of the religious organizations.
