ENIAC

ELECTRONIC NUMERICAL INTEGRATOR AND CALCULATOR

The Electronic Numerical Integrator and Calculator (Eniac), was
only a dream in the 40s. My interest in computers goes way back
to the late 50s to the ENIAC. I had been a Ham Operator since
1955 (K4EVY), when I was still in high school. There was no such
thing as a personal computer then.

But, my excitement about computers really began when I saw the
first computer, the ENIAC, at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland
in the 50s. I was in military school in Georgia then but on one of
our family visits to Pennsylvania and Maryland my uncle invited me
to see his laboratory and the ENIAC.

As early as the 40s (1943) scientists at the University of Pennsylvania
proposed a machine which would calculate "firing tables" - settings used
for directing artillery under varying conditions vis-a-vis weather,
distance to the target, etc. to be used for aiming artillery, which
up to that time sometimes took hours to calculate. That is when the
computer age was actually launched. The ENIAC, which weighed 30 tons,
was funded by the U.S. Army.

Dr. Goldstine lobbied a committee headed by Oswald Veblen, mathematician,
who influenced the army to go forward with funding at the Aberdeen
Proving Grounds (in 1943) with a request for half a million dollars
to pay for the research and the computer. Up to that time the army
had been shipping their guns without firing tables. Col Leslie E. Simon
was then the director of the Army's Ballistics Laboratory, where my
uncle worked. Simons retired as a general. Dr. Goldstine was in charge
of the operation for the army. A team of scientists and engineers at
Penn's Moore School built the computer. The project was secret.

After three years of military school and one year of regular high
school I enlisted in the army. It was there that I was selected for
a secret assignment and after extensive investigations by the FBI and
the Secret Service I worked at the White House for the President of
the United States. I had a top secret clearance but also a crypto and
nuclear clearance. I was privy to everything the President said and
later on the Chiefs of Staff ("need to know" was extended to everything
I heard). In the 60s I worked in the War Room for the Chiefs of Staff at
the Pentagon (before going to helicopter school and before the Yom Kipper
War in 73).

My uncle was a physicist who died when he was only about 49 years old
from a cardiac condition but while he was employed as a scientist for
the army he invented the fastest camera in the world and he used the
very first computer in the ballistics lab at the base, which was also
his research facility for developing munitions for the military.

In 1957 I enlisted in the army because a war was about to
start and I wanted to get in on it.

One of the most exciting days of my life however was when I saw the
world's first computer, the ENIAC in the 50s, which was built at the
Ballistic Research Laboratory at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland,
and was funded by the Ordnance Corps of the United States
Army.

My memory is admittedly a bit vague by now, because it was such a long
time ago, but I do remember, the ENIAC used thousands of vacuum tubes
and generated a lot of heat. Obviously there was very little memory and
it was extremely slow.

Later on a subsequent tour of duty in the War Room at the Pentagon, just
down the hall from where I worked they were using a newer generation
computer, which still used tubes - and I recall how huge it was also
and all those diode multipliers and bullion adders with their flashing
lights. I also remember the heat and an array of tubes which military
personnel were constantly replacing as they burned out. It seemed like
that was their only job. To this day I don't know what this equipment
was used for. But I do know the tubes were a problem and RCA had to
develop a new tube which had a longer life just for the application
there at the Pentagon.

I worked cryptology in the War Room and my equipment used mechanical
coding wheels and also used tubes. The wheels were metal rings which
had to be lined up in exactly the same configuration and started exactly
at the same time as those who we communicated with in the Six Fleet
or where-ever they were. Army Security Agency (ASA) kept trying to break
our codes but they couldn't.

These were not text devices. They generated synthesized speech which
did not sound at all like the person using them - and speech was encrypted.
We were armed with sawed off shotguns. And we not only guarded the equipment,
we swept the room for bugs and we monitored all of the speech.

My job was the same at the White House when I did a three year tour
there but included other things, a lot of other things and my training
was at Ft Monmouth and at NSA. I worked in all kinds of communications
including the first television hookups for the White House, which we
assisted in the engineering process. I taught single sideband and
various types of multiplexing, including packet communications when
it was new.

ENIAC was the first electronic computer which could compute a trajectory
in only one second (pretty damn fast when it took an hour before the
computer was developed). It was completed in 1945 and it was very BIG. It
was enormous. The system was 80 feet long and was 8 feet high. It
contained 18,000 vacuum tubes. The speed was 100,000 pulses per second.

It didn't really begin to calculate firing tables until the war was over
since it took so long to build. From the time it was imagined in 43 to the
time it was completed in 1945.

It became public in 1946. It was built at the Moore school and moved to
Aberdeen in 1947 where it was utilized until 1955.

When I finally left the military I went to school under the G.I.Bill and I
got an LL.B degree but I also studied programming and systems design. I
learned COBOL, RPG, Lisp, BASIC and various other languages, including
assembly code. I built and owned several computers and all of the first
ones I learned to program them using their individual machine language. In
those days that was not uncommon. COBOL was probably my favorite
programming language because although bulky it was plain English
and easy to use - but still no personal computers then and I had
to program main frames using punch cards. My very first personal
computer was a Commodore 4K and later a Commodore 2001. My first
hard drive cost me $1,700 for that Commodore. My next computer
was better; it was an IBM XT. Since then I have had more computers
than I can remember and the operating system for most of them has
been Linux. I cut my teeth on UNIX. And I still prefer DOS to
Windows (g).

      File - Ponder This

Are the laws of nature the same everywhere in the Universe?
Or, is our little piece of the Universe what it is because of the
      environment where we live?

OR, is the Universe the way it is, our piece of it at least, just so
physicists can be here to observe it? (g) We live on a unique planet with
liquid water and our laws of nature have adapted to this unique
      environment.

I think the Universe is a big random place, very inhospitable to our
kind of life, but for other forms of life the possiblities are unlimited.

I think each pocket of space has different laws of nature and vastly
different landscapes and much more than we can imagine is possible.

Ponder this: Dark Matter is 25%. Dark Energy is 70% of the Universe.
And Atoms only make up about 5% of the Universe.

      Ponder This:

What if to the whole of everything we are small like subatomic human particles?

Or what if we are food for aliens who seeded this rock millions of
years ago with DNA and let it evolve and they will one day return to eat us.

Peter Wesson, a scientist in Canada recently wrote that our universe is
actually in a black hole and may be in another universe, which also might be in
a black hole, and so forth and so on. We know what we know but there is much we
      do not know.

What if our human existence doesn't mean any more than the fact we are
here - and we have a brain? (because that is all I believe it means) And
if we have a brain we should be enlightened enough by the accumulated
wisdom of 500 years of books to want to be the species that saves the
world for us and for them (all the rest) and only by doing that can we
insure a quality of life that will make it all worth while and then we
      won't be so insignificant after-all.

      * Life on Earth is a product of evolution by natural selection
operating in the medium of carbon chemistry. However, in theory,
evolution is not limited to Earth, nor to carbon chemistry.

      * Just as it may occur on other planets, it may also operate
in other media, such as the medium of digital computation

AND, "what-if" we are somebody else's computer simulation?

        Politically Comatose

        Is It a Joke?
        It Seems Like One

It would be almost funny if it wasn't so true. Barach Hussein Obama is
        tearing the house
        down. His lies are legend.

Who doesn't agree with Barack Obama? Barack Obama doesn't. And it is all on
        videotape. He
says one thing to one audience and something else to another audience.

"Videotapes of debates and speeches that were obtained by The Washington
        Times show that
Mr. Obama took positions during his Senate campaign on nearly a half-dozen
        issues ranging
from the Cuba embargo to health care for illegal aliens that conflict with
        statements that
he has made during his run for the White House." (Jen Haberkorn - Feb 1,
        2008 - The
        Washington Times)

In the October 30th presidential debate on MSNBC, Obama said he opposed
        decriminalizing
marijuana. But when he was a candidate for the U.S. Senate, he told college
        students in
Illinois on January, 2004, he supported decriminalization saying he favored
        eliminating
criminal penalties for the use or possession of marijuana. It is all on the
        video. "I think
we need to rethink and decriminalize our marijuana laws," Mr. Obama said
        during a debate at
Northwestern University. "But I'm not somebody who believes in legalization
        of marijuana."
        (WashPost)

"When confronted with the statements on the video, Obama's campaign offered
        two
explanations to The Times in less than 24 hours. At first, Obama spokesman
        Tommy Vietor
said the candidate had "always" supported decriminalizing marijuana,
        suggesting that his
2004 statement was correct. Then after The Washgington Times posted copies
        of the video on
its Web site; then his campaign reversed course and declared he does not
        support
eliminating criminal penalties for marijuana possession and use." (ibid)

The Obama spokesperson laid blame for the conflicting statements to
        confusion about the
meaning of decriminalization. Sure you were confused Barack. That is
        because you were
caught. BUT most of his supporters are not listening to the facts.

Who is surprised? My wife told me about this lady she knows, who is 80
        years old and a
Republican who is voting for Obama because she says the economy is bad and
        she likes the
way Obama looks. She said, "Obama is such a nice looking young man." AND,
        that is her
        reason for voting for Barack.

There are the folks who want a redistribution of the wealth. They want
        their share even if
it means taking it from someone else who worked hard for it. We always
        provide for those in
"real" need. There is a safety net and it can always be improved, but there
        are also
cheats, those who have lived off the sweat and labor of others. These
        welfare cheats game
the system. They will support Obama. He speaks for them.

Then there are those who just want "change and hope" and have not the
        slightest idea what
Barack Hussein Obama means when he is intentionally vague. There is nothing
        vague about his
support for Rashid Khalidi, the PLO spokesman who is his personal friend
        and a confidant.

At a forum on health care in 2003, Obama said he "absolutely" supported the
        same benefits
citizens receive for the children of illegal (undocumented) aliens -
        medical or in-state
tuition. However, at a CNN debate in January 2008 when asked if his health
        plan also
covered illegal aliens his answer this time was absolutely NO.

In 2004 he told students at Southern Illinois University that `I think it's
        time for us to
end the embargo with Cuba...It's time for us to acknowledge that that
        particular policy has
failed.' However, Obama flip flopped again. - and "he stopped short of
        calling for an end
to the embargo in a Miami Herald op-ed in August. He said he would rely on
        diplomacy, with
a message that if a post-Fidel Castro government made democratic changes,
        the U.S. `is
prepared to take steps to normalize relations and ease the embargo.'"
        (WashPost)

And at an NAACP debate in October of 2003 he said he would "vote to
        abolish" the MANDATORY
MINIMUM sentences. AND, he said: "The mandatory minimums take too much
        discretion away from
judges," he said. If you then went to his WEBsite (no longer posted), it
        said the opposite.
It said he would "immediately review sentences to see where we can be
        smarter on crime and
reduce the ineffective warehousing of nonviolent drug offenders." Another
        Obama Flip-Flop.
There were many of them and it is no surprise that they all mysteriously
        disappeared.

He told the AFL-CIO in June 2003" "I happen to be a proponent of a
        single-payer, universal
        health care plan."

But, as you all know, he does not endorse a single-payer, universal
        MANDATED health care
plan. He only supports mandates for the kids and the parents will obviously
        have to wait.
It was Hillary who wanted mandated coverage for EVERYONE - with affordable
        premiums and
assistance (or FREE) to those who can't pay.

What does he say now about single-payer universal care?

"`Senator Obama has always said that single-payer universal care is a good
        idea because it
would increase efficiency in the system, but the problem is that it's not
        achievable,' Mr.
        Vietor said."

Unachievable? Is that is why it does work everywhere else? What is
        unachievable is
substance and change with Barack Obama... The only real change will come
        from a Republican
administration. The Democrats have been so fixated on Obama redistributing
        income they
forgot it takes an economy that is working to enable everyone who wants
        economic sanity.

Obama is an enigma because of his flip-flopping and because he has refused
        to disclose
vital information about himself. He hasn't even provided a valid birth
        certificate. There
is something drastically wrong with a system where a candidate can be
        elected president
without first being vetted, who could not even get a security clearance and
        nobody cares.

It is also laughable that the media repeats the same old false canard that
        Obama is the
most liberal and progressive candidate. National Journal, a conservative
        magazine, thought
so. He is far from being a liberal. Universal health care is liberal. Obama
        is not liberal.
It is more likely that he is the Kenyon (not Manchurian) candidate and
        Democrats are
        drinking the coolaid?

As if his association with Ayers, Dorhn, Pfleger and 20 year relationship
        with Tony Rezko
and Rev Wright, et al wasn't enough, the LA Times has a video of Obama with
        his friend,
Rashid Khalidi which demonstrates Barack Hussein Obama's close relationship
        with the
blatantly anti-Israel Rashid. It should have cost him the Jewish vote but
        the LA Times
        refuses to release it.

"According an LA Times article written by Peter Wallsten in April, Obama
        was a "friend and
frequent dinner companion" of Rashid Khalidi, who from 1976 to1982 was
        reportedly a
director of the official Palestinian press agency, WAFA, which was
        operating in exile from
        Beirut with the PLO." (FOXNews.com - October 28, 2008)

Those who are not paying attention are not only drinking the coolaid, they
        are so dumb leaf
mold is smarter than they are. They don't have a clue. You know what I
        mean. They are
        politically comatose.

Is Michelle proud of America now?

          Defeating America from Within

Is Your Passport Up to Date?

It should be obvious that the best way and perhaps the only way to defeat
          America is to do
it from within. What if, the plan from the start was for Obama to defeat
          the U.S. by
becoming it's chief executive? I know you don't want to believe it, but
          when you connect
the dots it seems all the more plausible that this was a careful thought
          out plan right
          from the start.

In 1995 Barack Obama, then 35, ran for Alice Palmer's seat in the State
          Senate when Alice
Palmer decided to run for the U.S. Congress. He was backed by his Syrian
          friend, Antoin
(Tony) Rezko and Al Johnson, retired auto dealer who had been in the Mayor
          Harold
Washington administration. When Palmer who had backed Obama to succeed her
          in the state
Senate lost her election for the U.S. Congress, she asked Obama to step
          aside so she could
return to her state Senate seat BUT Obama refused and challenged her
          re-qualification
signatures on the ballot. Palmer was subsequently disqualified and Obama
          was able to run
          unopposed.
"[William] Ayers and Dohrn (domestic terrorists of Weather Underground
          fame) hosted a
gathering at their home in the Hyde Park section of Chicago, the
          neighborhood in which the
Obamas lived, at which then- state Senator Alice J. Palmer introduced
          Barack Obama as her
choice for the 1996 Democratic primary. Palmer denied that she organized
          the political
affair for Obama, although she said she attended. Dr. Quentin Young, a
          longtime physician,
who also attended, referred to the gathering as the political coming-out
          party for Obama.
Young said it was a small group-maybe a dozen or so people-who were being
          introduced to the
next senator from Chicago's South Side, and that money was raised for Obama
          at the event.
Although the exact date of the gathering is not known, it was sometime in
          the second half
of 1995, according to Ben Smith, a reporter for The Politico." (See
          Ireport.com)

During the last days of the presidential election, have you noticed how
          William Ayers, one
of Barack Obama's handlers and the ghost writer of his book[s] has vanished
          from public
          view?

"The co-founder of the Weathermen, the anti-Vietnam War group that bombed
          the Pentagon and
US Capitol in the 1970s, has vanished as John McCain seeks to make his
          links to Barack
Obama a central issue in the last weeks of the presidential campaign."

After Obama won the election with the Black vote and the
          too-young-to-know-better voting
block, when it mattered, John McCain didn't fight back using the evidence
          he had; the
sealed documents, the lies and the refusal of Barack Obama to disclose what
          America was
          entitled to know.

Most Americans were too disconnected in spite of the longest and most
          expensive campaign
ever. When asked simple questions, most Obama supporters could not even
          tell you what Wade
vs Roe was and many still don't know where Iraq is located or
          "redistribution" ("to each
according to needs") isn't codified inthe Contitution.

"There was no one home when The Times visited Mr Ayers' house in a quiet
          street three
blocks from Mr Obama's mansion in the Hyde Park district of Chicago. The
          Education
Department of the University of Illinois, where Mr Ayers works, said that
          he had gone on
sabbatical. In response to an e-mail he stated: `I'm not available right
          now. Perhaps in
the future. Best, Bill.'..." ( Times Online)

Obama wasn't satisfied with a seat in the state Senate; his plan was to go
          all the way to
the White House. Who doesn't wonder, even those not given to conspiracies,
          if Obama was
planning something bigger even then? Of course he was. He and Rezko and
          Ayers and the long
list of characters already mentioned here over the last two years

Here is how Cynthia Miller, manager of Obama's Senate district office
          describes Obama's
ambition, as described by Dan Morain in the LA Times in September 2008,

"Cynthia K. Miller, who ran his district office, recalls an incident
          shortly after Obama's
election. She had taken a longer-than-normal lunch break and returned to
          find an impatient
state senator waiting for her...He didn't raise his voice, she said, but he
          turned stern as
he explained the importance of time management and the need to focus on
          goals. Then he
shared his own goal: `I plan to be president.'"

          Obama was not a professor, as he is sometimes referred to by his friends;
          he was a part
time lecturer, an obvious attempt to make him out to be what he is not. And
          look who his
          neighbors are.

"Obama's state Senate district was a mix of mansions, trendy town homes and
          tenements. It
encompassed the leafy campus of the University of Chicago, where Obama
          worked part time as
a law school lecturer before and after his election." (ibid)

"Talk-show host Oprah Winfrey, who is having a fund-raiser for Obama at her
          Montecito
estate in Santa Barbara County today, keeps a residence in the old
          district. The Rev. Jesse
Jackson, who has endorsed Obama, and Minister Louis Farrakhan, head of the
          black separatist
Nation of Islam, live within three blocks of Obama's home." (ibid)

"He teamed with Republican state Sen. Kirk Dillard to revoke a law that
          allowed lawmakers
to convert campaign money to personal use, for some legislators a source of
          substantial
          largesse." (ibid)

          Things Happen Because
          They are Made To Happen

When Obama was interviewed bu George Stephanopoulous on ON ABC's "This Week
          with George
Stephanopoulous," Senator Barack Obama was asked why he went to Antoin
          Rezko for help
buying his mansion and the lot adjacent to it, he responded with:

"Well, you know, I think that, you know, we had bought a house for the
          first time and, you
know, we were trying to figure out how to set the whole thing up and, you
          know, this is
somebody that I had known for some time. It was an aboveboard legal
          transaction. I paid
more than the price of the property that I purchased and so the assumption
          was that this
          was all aboveboard."

How many first homes are in the million dollar range? And the fly in that
          ointment was it
was not the first time. Obama did buy a previous home, a condo in Hyde Park
          before they
purchased the $1.6 million mansion in Kenwood.

This was not the last and has not been the first time Obama couldn't get
          his facts
straight. Like the fact that Obama's connection with Rezko was more complex
          than has been
          disclosed or investigated.

Nothing just happens. It happens because it is made to happen.

Obama went to work in Chicago in 1993 in a law firm where the major partner
          was Allison S.
Davis of Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland. Later Davis would leave the firm
          and invest in
Rezko's "government-subsidized" business - which the law firm represented
          to obtain those
contracts, which had been a major part of the law firm's legal work - the
          same company
          which Obama decided to join.

Tim Novak of the Chicago Sun-Times (April 23, 2007) wrote:

"Davis and Rezko also went into business together, building upscale homes
          in the booming
Kenwood neighborhood where Davis lives. The legal work on those deals was
          also done by
Davis' former law firm, where Obama was working." (Novak)

"While Davis was running the law firm, he was also a board member of the
          Woodlawn
Preservation and Investment Corp., a not-for-profit company that hooked up
          with Rezko's
Rezmar Corp. on tax-supported projects to rehabilitate apartments for
          low-income tenants.
Davis' firm handled the legal work on those housing deals." (Novak)

"Davis has long been an influential member of the Woodlawn community just
          south of the
University of Chicago. His father was the university's first
          African-American professor.
Since 1991, Davis has been a member of the Chicago Plan Commission,
          appointed by Mayor
          Daley, a friend." (Novak)

"Four years ago, Blagojevich appointed Davis to the Illinois State Board of
          Investment,
which controls state pension funds -- one of a series of appointments THE
          GOVERNOR MADE AT
          REZKO'S REQUEST."

          Obama Stretches Credulity

"In 1991, after Obama became the first black president of the Harvard Law
          Review, Rezko
offered him a job. While Obama declined, the two began a friendship that
          deepened as Obama
launched his political career and Rezko became a key fund-raiser. The two
          men and their
wives used to socialize, meeting for dinner, Obama has said. After earning
          his degree,
Obama returned to Chicago, ran a voter registration drive, began work on an
          autobiography
and in 1993 went to work in a small but influential law firm now known as
          (Davis) Miner,
          Barnhill & Galland." (Chicago Tribune)

[The New York Times reported the method of selection changed to insure
          minority
representation. Therefore Obama became the first black law review editor.
          But there is no
record he wrote anything while he was the editor of the Harvard Law
          Review.]

"The firm also did work in affordable housing and several which involved
          Rezko's Rezmar
Corp. "...one of the law firm's founding partners, Allison Davis, developed
          personal
financial ties to Rezko. Davis later left the firm to become a for-profit
          developer,
sometimes in deals with Rezko..." (Tribune)

There has been a great deal of spin control over this relationship. You see
          it especially
in Daily KOS, which seems to be the leading liberal blog source of
          pro-Obama propaganda. I
have read other blogs where former KOS webloggers have divorced themselves
          form KOS because
of it's unbalanced support for Obama.

"Responding to a Chicago Sun-Times report that Obama's former law firm did
          legal work for
Rezko's low-income housing development business, the Illinois senator said
          he performed
five hours of work on behalf of non-profit housing groups that partnered
          with Rezko. "We
were brought in through them [the non-profits], not through Rezko," Obama
          said.
          (Times-Tribune)

BUT, not to forget the socializing and the acquisition of Obama's 1.6
          million mansion with
Rezko's generosity. One must ask, what was Rezko promised and what did
          Rezko get in return?

Obama has answered charges of political collusion and special favors by
          saying he was
unaware of the scope of the problem with Rezko's deteriorating housing
          projects - even
though many of them were IN HIS DISTRICT. He said he never heard a
          complaint from anyone.

"The Sun-Times reported that Rezko donated to Obama at the same time
          residents were without
heat at one of the troubled properties operated by Rezko's firm, Rezmar
          Corp. The firm
received taxpayer help to rehab 30 buildings, including 11 in Obama's state
          legislative
district on the South Side." (Tribune)

The Tribune reported that, "When Obama first ran for the Illinois Senate in
          1996, Rezko was
among his first political donors. And when Obama ran for the U.S. Senate,
          Rezko was a major
fundraiser." Some of this money, it seems, was funneled through Rezko and
          may have come
from other Arab sources. Rezko is also a native born Syrian. It is as-if
          Obama and his
handlers had planned to take over the government years ago and as slick as
          the plan was to
fly airplanes in the World Towers, this plan would be even more astute and
          deftly planned.
          Is Obama a Muslim sleeper?

You have all heard some of the speeches. It is all FLUFF. Where is the
          beef? As I wrote
here once before I've heard a lot of speeches when I worked in Washington
          at the White
House and in the Pentagon - and I admit to having been moved by some of
          them and given a
fair comparison I would have to say, I am not particularly inspired by
          Obama. I do keep
asking, "Where is the beef?" Where are the specifics? And when there is, it
          lacks
substance. Perhaps, it must be my generation, who is far more adroit and
          far more
experienced with politicians, because most of the over 60 crowd will not be
          supporting
Barack Obama. Most of us have heard the snake oil salesman before and Obama
          sure sounds
like a cross between a snake oil salesman and a preacher.

As for Rezko's help acquiring the Obama $1.6 million dollar mansion, a
          really nice deal
which makes a solid case for caring about the poor; doesn't it? As for
          Rezko, Obama says
now, that was a mistake and the legal work really didn't amount to much. We
          know better
than that. They had a long relationship, going back about 17 years and a
          lot of money
          flowed to Obama from Rezko.

It stretches credulity to expect anyone to believe it was an honest mistake
          - if not their
intentional mission to infiltrate the political system and grab power from
          within.

Obama and his Problem with Ethics and Judgment

Obama & His Problem With Ethics & Judgment

A Reminder That It Isn't Over Yet!

The NYT described Antoin Rezko as a "collector of politicians", which is the
            way he was
known in Chicago. His office was full of framed photos of politicians he met
            and gave
campaign contributions to and we now know he often let them know there were
            strings.
Political favors were regularly exchanged. It would be no different with
            Obama and Rezko.
For Obama to deny it is to deny what was known and was common practice with
            Rezko and his
other collection of political friends of Rezko's money.

As reported in the New York Times, by Christopher Drew and Mike McIntire
            (June 14, 2007),
"As Mr. Obama built a career that carried him to the Senate in 2004, Mr.
            Rezko was there
with him, holding fund-raisers and rallying support."

"Mr. Obama has portrayed Mr. Rezko as a one-time fund-raiser whom he had
            occasionally seen
socially. But interviews with more than a dozen political and business
            associates suggest
that the two men were closer than the senator has indicated." (NYT)

"Mr. Obama turned to Mr. Rezko for help at several important junctures.
            Records show that
when Mr. Obama needed cash in the waning days of his losing 2000
            Congressional campaign,
Mr. Rezko rounded up thousands of dollars from business contacts. In 2003,
            Mr. Rezko helped
Mr. Obama expand his fund-raising for the Senate primary by being host of a
            dinner at his
Mediterranean-style home for 150 people, including some whose names have
            since come up in
            the influence scandal." (ibid)

Cindi Canary, executive director of the Illinois Campaign for Political
            Reform, a
nonpartisan research group, said vis-a-vis Rezko's fund raising for Obama in
            2003 "was a
little stunning that so late in the game Senator Obama would still have such
            close
            involvement with Rezko."

"Years earlier, as a state legislator, Mr. Obama wrote letters to city and
            state officials
supporting efforts by Mr. Rezko and a partner to build apartments for the
            elderly with $14
million in government money, The Chicago Sun-Times reported in its June 13
            editions. The
developers received $855,000 in fees." (NYT)

A blogger who uses the handle, "DemAC" wrote: "So what if Barack Obama knows
            Tony Rezko.
Why should we care?" And he goes on to tell us why we should care,

"The facts are that Barack Obama worked at a politically connected law firm.
            One of the law
firm's clients was Tony Rezko, a friend to Obama as well as a fundraiser of
            millions of
dollars for Obama's political campaigns. Tony Rezko, the friend and
            fundraiser for whom
Obama did legal work, was also a slumlord. When Obama worked at the law
            firm, as well as
later when he held political office in Illinois, Obama helped Rezko obtain
            massive amounts
of dollars in subsidies from the government for his housing business via
            Rezko's company
Rezmar. Neither Rezko, nor his partners in the housing venture, had any
            prior experience in
the housing field; however Rezko still received tens of millions in
            government money."
            (DemAC)

"The facts are that some of the money in government subsidies went to buy
            tenements in
Obama's state senate district. Rezko treatment of the mainly
            African-American tenants left
a lot to desire. Rezko provided no heat and no hot water during the
            particularly cold
winter of 1997. Rezko claimed he did not have money to provide heat and hot
            water to
Obama's constituents. However Rezko did have enough money to donate to
            Barack Obama."
            (DemAC)

"The facts are that, thanks in part to Rezko's fundraising and donations,
            Obama was elected
to the state senate. State Senator Obama still worked for clients at the law
            firm,
including Tony Rezko. State Senator Obama of Illinois, wrote letters of
            support to get
Rezko/Rezmar millions more in government subsidies." (DemAC)

"The facts are that Obama, again with the help of Rezko's donations and
            fundraising, was
elected a U.S. Senator in the fall of 2004. Moving up on the political
            ladder the Obamas
wanted to buy a big mansion in South Chicago they could not afford. The
            house cost $2.3
million. Obama made a deal with the owner who agreed to part the lot in two,
            one lot with
the house and one lot with the yard, and to sell Obama the house separately
            from the
house's side yard. Obama purchased the parcel of land with the house at a
            discounted price,
of $1.65 million. On the very same day, Rezko's wife, bought the side yard
            at full price."
            (DemAC)

"The facts are that Michelle and Obama then moved into the house. The yard
            which is owned
by the Rezkos are not used by them. Instead Obama paid the bills for the
            upkeep of Rezko's
yard. After the deal, Obama paid for mowing of his front lawn as well as
            REzko's yard. The
yard that originally was the yard of Obama's house for all practical
            purposes still was."
            (DemAC)

"The facts are thus in sum: Obama got a $300,000 discount on the lot on
            which the house
stood. The yard, purchased by Rita Rezko for the full price of $625,000 the
            Obamas got to
use for no cost at all. Obama's profit is $925,000. Not a bad deal." (DemAC)

"The facts are that in the fall of 2006 years of illegal influence peddling
            were catching
up with Tony Rezko. By late 2006 several news reports indicated a possible
            indictment by
U.S. prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald (the same Fitzgerald who indicted
            "Scooter" Libby).
Fitzgerald's case against Rezko includes charges of bribes, kickbacks and
            extortion."
            (DemAC)

"The facts are that Obama himself is not accused by the U.S Prosecutor's
            office of any
wrong doing whatsoever. However, Tony Rezko is scheduled to stand trial at
            February 25. It
is reasonable to believe that U.S. Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will do his
            usual thorough
job. It is therefore also reasonable to believe that for Obama, the media
            coverage of the
trial will highlight aspects of his life story he does not wish to
            highlight." (DemAC)

It is obvious that Obama has been less than truthful

Remember, the NYT reported that while Obama implied his relationship with
            Rezko was casual
and he was only a "one-time fund-raiser" and he only socialized with Rezko
            occasionally,
that was a bald faced lie. As stated in the NYT, "...interviews with more
            than a dozen
political and business associates suggest that the two men were closer than
            the senator has
            indicated."

At the same time Obama was taking money from Rezko in 2004, Rezko was being
            investigated by
the FBI and was later indicted. It has been pointed out that "an ABC News
            review of
campaign records shows Rezko, and people connected to him, contributed more
            than $120,000
to Obama's 2004 campaign for the U.S. Senate, much of it at a time when
            Rezko was the
            target of an FBI investigation."

There are several issues here besides the fact that he may have less than
            honest intent.
Everything should be considered, not least of all obama's ethics (lack of)
            and his judgment
(or lack of). But the media does not seem to be doing it's job. They are not
            asking the
right questions. Obama has been getting a free pass as many thought he might
            be as an
African-American. Political correctness seems to be winning out over good
            sense.

"I am in this race to tell the corporate lobbyists that their days of
            setting the agenda
in Washington are over. I have done more than any other candidate in this
            race to take
on lobbyists -- and won. They have not funded my campaign, they will not
            get a job in my
White House, and they will not drown out the voices of the American people
            when I am
president." -- Barack Obama, Speech in Des Moines, IA, November 10, 2007

As for those corporate lobbyists not funding his campaigns, what is Rezko,
            besides being a
corrupt corporate sponsor (and lobbyist)? We know now that Obama has
            received plenty of
corporate funds - many times more than his Republican opponent in many
            cases. We know now
also that half of the 500 million dollars collected by Obama came from
            unnamed sources,
many believed to be Middle Eastern contributors. We know Obama is not who or
            what he says
he is. We know we should not be surprised how this presidency turns.

            * We also know now that one of Obama speakers at his innaugural is linked to
            HAMAS: "Obama
Inaugural Prayer Speaker Heads Up Group (Islamic Society of North America)
            Linked To Hamas"
            - quoting from Jews Against Obama:

According to terrorism expert Steven Emerson, ISNA "is a radical group
            hiding under a
false veneer of moderation; convenes annual conferences where Islamist
            militants have
been given a platform to incite violence and promote hatred, (for
            instance, al Qaeda
supporter and PLO official Yusuf Al-Qaradhawi was invited to speak at an
            ISNA
conference); has held fundraisers for terrorists (after Hamas leader Mousa
            Marzook was
arrested and eventually deported in 1997, ISNA raised money for his
            defense); has
condemned the U.S. government's post-9/11 seizure of Hamas" and
            Palestinian Islamic
Jihad's financial assets; and publishes a bi-monthly magazine, Islamic
            Horizons, that
            often champions militant Islamist doctrine."

Adds Emerson: "I think ISNA has been an umbrella, also a promoter of
            groups that have
been involved in terrorism. I am not going to accuse the ISNA of being
            directly involved
in terrorism. I will say ISNA has sponsored extremists, racists, people
            who call for
            Jihad against the United States."

Emerson further reports that "In September 2002, a full year after the
            9/11 attacks,
speakers at ISNA's annual conference still refused to acknowledge Bin
            Laden's role in
            the terrorist attacks."

              Forcing Israel to the Wall

              An enfeebled Obama
              September 25, 2009, 7:57 PM

              (Includes Comments (21))

If Zbigniew Brzezinski had his way, the US would go to war against Israel
              to defend Iran's nuclear installations.

In an interview with the Daily Beast Web site last weekend, the man who
served as former US president Jimmy Carter's national security adviser
said, "They [IAF fighter jets] have to fly over our airspace in Iraq. Are
we just going to sit there and watch? We have to be serious about denying
them that right. If they fly over, you go up and confront them. They have
the choice of turning back or not."

Brzezinski has long distinguished himself as one of the most outspoken
Israel-haters in polite circles in Washington. Under normal circumstances,
his remarks could be laughed off as the ravings of a garden variety
anti-Semite. But these are not normal circumstances. Brzezinski served as
a senior foreign policy adviser to Barack Obama during his 2008
presidential campaign, and his views are not terribly out of place among
Obama's senior advisers in the White House. In an interview in 2002,
Samantha Powers, who serves as a senior member of Obama's national
security council, effectively called for the US to invade Israel in
              support of the Palestinians.

The fact of the matter is that Brzezinski's view is in line with the
general disposition of Obama's foreign policy. Since entering office,
Obama has struck a hard-line position against Israel while adopting a
soft, even apologetic line toward Iran and its allies.

For eight months, Obama has sought to force Israel to the wall. He has
loudly and repeatedly ordered the Netanyahu government to prevent all
private and public construction for Jews in Israel's capital city and its
heartland in order to facilitate the eventual mass expulsion of Jews from
both areas, which he believes ought to become part of a Jew-free
              Palestinian state.

Until this week, Obama conditioned the resumption of negotiations toward
peace between Israel and the Palestinians on such a prohibition of Jewish
building and so encouraged Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas to further
radicalize his positions toward Israel. Until Obama came around, Abbas had
no problem negotiating with Israeli leaders while Jews were building homes
and schools and other structures in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria. But with
Obama requiring a freeze of all such construction, Abbas made clear in an
interview with The Washington Post in May that he couldn't talk to Prime
Minister Binyamin Netanyahu without looking like a sellout.

Obama made no equivalent demands of the Palestinians. He did not
precondition talks on freezing illegal Arab construction in Jerusalem, or
on dismantling the Aksa Martyrs Brigades terrorist group, or even simply
on setting aside the Palestinian demand that Israel release convicted
terrorists from its prisons. To the contrary, he has energetically
supported the establishment of a Palestinian unity government between
Fatah and Hamas - which the US State Department has since 1995 designated
as a foreign terrorist organization to which US citizens, including the US
president, are required by law to give no quarter.

As for Iran, during his meeting with Netanyahu in May, Obama gave the
clear impression that the Iranian regime had until September to accept his
offer to negotiate the disposition of its nuclear installations. But it is
now September, and in its belated response to Obama's generous offer of
engagement, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's regime rejected the
terms of Obama's engagement out of hand. Obama did not retaliate by taking
his offer to negotiate off the table or - perish the thought - working to
implement the sanctions he had pledged would follow an Iranian rejection
              of his open hand.

Instead, Obama announced that he is sending a senior US official to meet
with the Iranians on October 1. And with that announcement, any residual
doubt that Obama is willing to live in a world in which Iran is armed with
              nuclear weaponry dissipated completely.

In the meantime, in his address to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday
and in his remarks at his meeting with Netanyahu and Abbas on Tuesday,
Obama made clear that, in the words of former US ambassador to the UN John
Bolton, he has "put Israel on the chopping block." He referred to Israeli
communities located beyond the 1949 armistice lines as "illegitimate."

Moreover, Obama explained that Israel can no longer expect US support for
its security if it doesn't bow to his demand that it surrender all of the
land it has controlled since 1967.

Apparently it is immaterial to the US leader that if Israel fulfilled his
demand, the Jewish state would render itself defenseless against enemy
attack and so embolden its neighbors to invade. That is, it matters not to
Obama that were Israel to fulfill his demand, the prospect of an Arab war
against Israel would rise steeply. The fact that Obama made these deeply
antagonistic statements about Israel at the UN in itself exposes his
hostility toward the country. The UN's institutional hostility toward
Israel is surpassed only by that of the Arab League and the Organization
              of the Islamic Conference.

So given Obama's positions toward Israel on the one hand and Iran and its
allies on the other, it seems clear enough that the logical endpoint of
Obama's policies would look something like Brzezinski's recommended course
of action. Moreover, Obama's foreign policy as a whole makes it fairly
easy to imagine him ordering the US military to open hostilities against a
US ally to defend a US adversary - even as that adversary goes out of its
way to humiliate Obama personally and the US in general.

Since Obama took office, he has been abandoning one US ally after another
while seeking to curry favor with one US adversary after another. At every
turn, America's allies - from Israel to Honduras, to Columbia, South Korea
and Japan, to Poland and the Czech Republic - have reacted with disbelief
and horror to his treachery. And at every turn, America's adversaries -
from Iran to Venezuela to North Korea and Russia - have responded with
derision and contempt to his seemingly obsessive attempts to appease them.

The horror Obama has instilled in America's friends and the contempt he
has evoked from its enemies have not caused him to change course. The fact
that his policies throughout the world have already failed to bring a
change in the so-called international community's treatment of the US has
not led him to reconsider those policies. As many Western Europeans have
begun to openly acknowledge, the man they once likened to the messiah is
nothing but a politician - and a weak, bungling one at that. Even
Britain's Economist is laughing at him.

But Obama is unmoved by any of this, and as his speech at the UN General
Assembly made clear, he is moving full speed ahead in his plans to
subordinate US foreign policy to the UN.

His stubborn insistence on advancing his feckless foreign policy in the
face of its already apparent colossal failure is of a piece with his
unswerving commitment to his domestic agenda in spite of its apparent
colossal failure. Obama's economic stimulus package failed to stimulate
the US economy and increased the US's economic deficit to heights
undreamed of by his predecessors. His nationalization of major US
corporations like General Motors, his cash-for-clunkers program to
stimulate the US auto industry and his massive encroachments on the
banking and financial industries have done nothing to increase economic
growth in the US and indeed, unemployment has reached generational highs.
And yet, rather than reconsider his belief in vastly expanding the size of
the federal government's control over the private sector, Obama has
insistently pushed for further governmental control over the US economy -
most notably in his drive to transform the US health care industry.

Both Obama's supporters and his opponents have claimed that his presidency
may well stand or fall on his ability to pass a health care reform law in
the coming months. But the fact of the matter is that if he succeeds in
passing such a law, his success will be a Pyrrhic victory because Obama
has promised that his plan will do the impossible, and therefore it will
              unquestionably fail.

He has promised that the health care plan he supports will increase access
to health services and improve their quality, but simultaneously will not
increase the size of the federal deficit or be funded with tax hikes - and
this is impossible. Obama's health care plan will fail either to pass into
law, or if it becomes law, it will fail to live up to his promises.

Obama's failures in both foreign and domestic policy have weakened him
politically. His response to this newfound weakness has been to put
himself into the public eye seemingly around the clock. Apparently the
thinking behind the move is that while Obama's policies are unpopular,
Obama's personal popularity remains high, so if he personalizes his
policies, it will become more difficult for his opponents to argue against
              them.

But alas, this policy too has failed. The more Obama exposes himself, the
less he is able to leverage his personal celebrity into political power.

The question for the US's spurned allies in general - and for Israel in
particular - is whether we are better off with a politically strong Obama
or a politically weak Obama. Given that the general thrust of his foreign
policy is detrimental to our interests, America's allies are best served
by a weak Obama. Already this week Israel benefitted from his weakness. It
was Obama's weakness that dictated his need to stage a photo-op with
Netanyahu and Abbas at the UN. And it was this need - to be seen as doing
something productive - that outweighed Obama's desire to put the screws on
Israel by preconditioning talks with a freeze on Jewish construction. So
Obama was forced to relent at least temporarily and Netanyahu won his
              first round against Obama.

During a television interview this week, Sen. John McCain was asked for
his opinion of Brzezinski's recommendation that the US shoot down IAF jets
en route to Iran in a hypothetical Israeli air strike against Iran's
nuclear installations. He responded with derisive laughter. And indeed,
the notion that the US would go to war against Israel to protect Iran's
              nuclear installations is laughably absurd.

The weaker Obama becomes politically, the more readily Democrats and
liberal reporters alike will acknowledge that attacking US allies while
scraping and bowing before US foes is a ridiculous strategy for foreign
affairs. Certainly no self-proclaimed realist can defend a policy based on
denuding the US of its power and forsaking a US-based international system
for one dictated by its foes.

It is true that a weakened Obama will seek to win cheap points by putting
the squeeze on Israel. But it is also true that the weaker Obama becomes,
the less capable he will be of carrying through on his bullying threats
against Israel and against fellow democracies around the world.

'They [IAF fighter jets] have to fly over our airspace in Iraq'- America
              Babylon

The old Yiddish saying ; Man plans ,God laugh's, a modernized version for
our time ; Israel plans God laughs.
For so long Israel has held the great and super powerful United States up
high on a pedestal ,becoming dependant on it for promises of security and
peace, all false. In a short time it's all been blown away by a slick
              talking punk from Chicago.
Israel has kept ultra loyal the US led peace agenda in spite of it's 100%
failure rate since it was implemented in 1993 on the White House lawn, all
the while ignoring their God and His peace plan.
Exuddus 23:27-33I will send My fear before you, I will cause confusion
among all the people to whom you come, and will make all your enemies turn
their backs to you. And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive
out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite from before you. I will not
drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate
and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. Little by little
I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you
inherit the land. And I will set your bounds from the Red Sea to the sea,
Philistia, and from the desert to the River. For I will deliver the
inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out
before you. You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods.
They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against Me. For
if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.
Blind obedience to the thing on the high pedestal while ignoring God is
              not a good thing.
As Caroline points out so well ,the object on Israel's devotion and trust
is reduced to a nation led by dangerous idiots not to be trusted.
God has shattered your false hope into a thousand pieces.
He is now removing from Israel the delusion of trusting in peace without
Him.It's always better and less painful to do it His way and not trust in
slick talking hustlers from Chicago or Skull & Bonesman from Crawford,
Texas. It's past time to return to Him and throw away the worthless idols
              which cannot save.
The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD, as the rivers of water: he
              turneth it whithersoever he will.

By David Francis on September 25, 2009 9:10 PM

In so many ways the Jewish people have saved many lives and made our
modern world possible. How could anyone doubt that God's chosen is Israel?
Why would anyone not want a Jew for a friend or neighbor? I'm an American
soldier who thanks God for the Jewish state and prays for Israel daily. I
was thankful for the IAF in Desert Storm. If not for Operation Opera in
'79 things would certainly have been more dangerous for everyone.
I fear for America under the terms of Bereshit 12:3. This gentile American
is singing HaTikvah, loathing this uniform and praying for wisdom and
courage for our Generals, the IDF/AF and Prime Minister Netanyahu. If he
can carry a hallel in a bucket, I hope it's not too late for an encore.

It's obvious that Israel would better off with a politically weakened
President Obama. If the Obama Administration continues to bungle its
foreign and domestic policies, the President could become a lame duck
sooner. As President Obama weakens, his conservative rivals are
fine-tuning their message for 2012. President Obama's misguided engagement
strategy has emboldened Iran to continue with its diabolical nuclear
program. And Mr. Obama may turnout to be a one-term wonder that
disappointed neo-liberals nave enough to believe in him.
By David Francis on September 26, 2009 8:26 AM

I agree 100% with Marcel. I think a weaker Obama would be better for
America too. He seems bent on doing as much damage as possible in the time
that he has. The scary part is, I think he knows exactly what he's doing.
As for Brzezinski, what an imbecile of a foreign policy adviser! In that
capacity, he should be sensitive of issues affecting all nations. However,
he chooses to offend all concerned except the most offensive, namely Iran.
He completely discredits a friendship that has lasted hundreds of years
between Israel and America. He blames Israel if the IAF doesn't back down
and gets shot while defending their home and literally the world. This is
              the logic of terrorists.
He offends the nation of Iraq by presuming Iraqi airspace to belong to the
U.S. We're supposed to be defending Iraq from terrorists while they
develop their own nation. Iraq doesn't want a nuclear Iran either. So, he
wishes to threaten their security as well.
He offends the U.S. military in Iraq by assuming they have committed an
exploitative take over of Iraq for his purpose. Just as the rest of the
left world has accused the U.S. of since late 2003. He should instead
commend them for defending a nation not their own.
He did get one thing right; America is not, "impotent babies". America
does have a navy. They should be offended by omission. Isn't the U.S. Navy
capable of defending the Strait of Hormuz? I may be naive here but I
should think it's in the best interest of Yemen, Qatar, Saudi Arabia,
Kuwait, Iraq and even Iran to keep the strait open. The U.S. Navy should
find good company with such a mission. That would be unthinkable for
Zbigniew as God's people could benefit from such a move.
One happy side I hear from Joel Rosenburg, is that the more Ahmadinejad
rants on like Psalm 83:2-8, the more Iranians are praying for Israel. I
hear that 1.3 million Iranians are currently praying for the Jewish state.
I just received an email from a Shiite Iraqi friend of mine to tell me how
nice the people of Israel are. Hallelujah! When I met him he wouldn't say
the name or acknowledge the presence of Israel. Millions of Americans are
praying regularly now for Israel. I ponder at what point will Obama's
administration want Ahmadinejad to shut up. Not soon enough for either
side. The only good thing my small mind and human eyes can see is maybe an
Iranian missile could clear the Threshing Floor. I'm curious to see how
Jerusalem will be protected. At any rate I will feel safer in Jerusalem
              than in Washington, D.C.

looks like there is a great success to PM Netanyahu but seems like they
believe that he used Iran to "dodge" the palestinain issue but lack the
understanding that Iran is a much greate problem then solving the conflict
with the palestinians. And ofcourse using quotes from haartze to make iran
seem like a fake threat to the world used by israel to make the debate be
about iran nuck instead of the Israel-Palestinian conflict

A part of Brzezinski's interview that you don't highlight shows the depth
of his anti-Israel sentiment. He speaks of "a Liberty in reverse." The USS
Liberty was a technical research vessel collecting intel, attacked by
Israeli forces during the Six-Day War. Both the Israeli and U.S.
governments concluded the attack was an accident, a mistake. Brzezinski
apparently believes it was deliberate -- otherwise, a deliberate attack on
Israeli aircraft could not be "a Liberty in reverse." (My husband, aka
"The Hoosier Gadfly" (http://paulhager.org/wordpress/)) is the one who
              alerted me on this point.)

Quote:The UN's institutional hostility toward Israel is surpassed only by
that of the Arab League and the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

At least these two have some excuse -the Arab league is made uo of
Muslims, and the UN is made up of members who have dire need of oil. But
the hostility of the state funded BBC towards Israel, has no such excuse.

Now for Zbigniew Brzezinski. Wasn't he the secretary of state in the
Carter era? He just about got everything wrong then - both major and
minor. His legacy is the Khomeini Islamist regime, whose nuclear ambitions
are the cause of so much disarray in the West and Israel. So why is anyone
giving him the time of day? If Obama is doing so, then it indicates the
shallowness of Obama and his team.
By Ron Grandinetti on September 28, 2009 1:30 PM

Caroline, Brzesinski is just one of a number of the liberal left wing nuts
who are coming out of the woodwork in support of Obama, a dark skin Jimmy
              Carter resurrected.

Bill OReilly in his book Culture Warrior talks about the secular
              progressive, disciples of George Soros.

With the advent of Obama arriving on the scene, they are growing strong
like grass seeds in early spring.

You have to wonder what the kool-aid drinkers are thinking, is this the
same candidate Obama? Fooled you didnt he.

To say Obama is not an anti-Semite is like saying birds dont fly. He acts
like a cheerleader for the Palestinians while scolding Israel for her
              existence.

I personal object to his behavior towards Israel, our good friend, trusted
ally and a democracy the only one in the ME.

Obama would not think of instructing any other sovereign nation such as
Canada, GB, France and Germany on how to run their governments therefore
where does he come off dictating to Israel also a sovereign nation?

His arrogance is showing more and more with his failure to convince the
American public to accept his health plan and other bad programs.

He is over exposing himself for the fool he is. Every time you tune in, he
is on TV trying to sell his wares. Sometimes I think its like the "Big
Brother" syndrome; he is watching us through the TV. A word to the wise
is; be sure to turn off your TV in the bedroom, the creep.

He has awakened Americans from the slumber and the next several elections
should seal his fate as a lame duck. (Sorry ducks didnt mean to be
              disrespectful).

Israel has to avoid meeting with any of his delegates and go about their
business as usual and doing what is best for Israel, remember his views do
not reflect the attitude of the Americans towards Israel, they are his own
              and those of his administration.

continue to echo in my soul...NEVER AGAIN!!!

An enfeebled Obama is not only less of a threat to Israel, but also for
those of us in the USA who love our country and those who support Israel.
The glitz and glitter is quickly fading from Obama and the short-lived
romance with "change" has turned to mistrust and doubt for many of us in
America. Thank you Caroline for your eye-opening commentary.

Brzezinski is an interesting character. I suspect much of his foreign
policy prescriptions lie in his perhaps unconscious attachment to Polish
nationalism and historic antagonisms flowing there from (e.g., the
liquidation of the Polish officer corps and intelligentsia at Katyn,
non-Polish Party bosses who assumed control of Poland post-war). He would
benefit greatly by being informed that exclusive territory, in the form of
Israel, is the indispensable guarantor of the genetic continuity of the
Jewish people; no less than his beloved Poland. Of course, given his
neo-liberal appointments, the degree to which he actually cares for the
continuation of the very being of his own people - that is their genetic
continuity - and the passing own of European Man more generally, is
              debatable.

Speaking for myself, I can say without hesitation that is of the highest
              concern to me.

Back in 2005 after Israeli Prime Minister Sharon 'the Bulldozer' was
reduced to a limp noodle after his White House meeting with President
Bush, word came that PM Sharon would soon ethnically cleanse all Jews from
their homes and land in Gush Katif (Gaza) to please this treacherous and
              evil betrayer of Israel.
P.M.Sharon was threatened by the President and it worked.
This was hidden by almost all the media and his faithful dumb Republican
voters never dug deep to find out what REALLY happened.
Just like the loyal see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil monkeys they
are they covered it up so as not to question their demi-god.
These hypocrites and phony supporters of Israel in empty words only, even
supported this fraud in the 2004 elections,2 years after he had become the
first president to call for a Palestinian state and after 4 years of
always restraining and pressuring Israel and rewarding the Islamic
              terrorists of the Palestinian variety.
Some voices rose up to resist this evil and one of them was a Christian
Pastor from Oklohama who promised to bring thousands of Christian
              supporters to Israel.
It was all hot air false hope, empty hype that got the Jews targeted by
              President Bush hopes dashed.
Even after this successful move by the president to begin implementing his
final 2 state solution under the turncoat Sharon the faithful idiots on
the right continued to suppport their evil president.
Now they are brave to rail against the other hypocrite and evil one on the
              left Obama.
You can be sure their silence will return when another fraud with an R.
after his name arises. They are easily duped.
The only reason empty talkers still offer Israel false hope of a future
election to change anything is that they are the blind leading the blind
as it was this pastor from Oklohama who was himself deceived by the wolf
              in sheeps costume Bush.
All it takes is a good speech and a bible in hand and these slaves bow and
              worship on cue.
The Pastor gave the Jews of Gush Katif false hope with usleless words of
              support that amounted no nothing.
How was it that so many supporters of Israel were decieved by this snake
              Bush?
They suffer from the same fatal disease of their fellow travelers the
              Donkey worshipers.
It is because they are in bondage to their elephant god they worship known
as GOP. Whatever has the stamp of the elephant is holy to theses blind
              fools.
The Republican party like it's sister the Democrat party have the final
solution Road Map to divide Israel as their Party Platform so it is a lie
that a replacemet for Obama will do anything good for Israel.Your only
hope is in God and wicked, perverted America is cursed ,finished.

While I appreciate Caroline's brilliant journalistic style and ability to
"tell it like it is" (w/o nods to political correctness etc) - I would
object her consistent portrayal of Obama's administration as sworn (albeit
denying that) enemies of Israel who only think about giving its blood to
its REAL enemies - we all know who they are. I disagree that "the best
Obama is a weakened one" (paraphrasing famous saying). His team did
attempt to apply "even handed" approach to the Israel-Arab conflict
resolution but it obviously didn't work b/c Arabs are not willing to
negotiate peace seriously as we all know. But there are signs that they
(Obama team) learn at least on their mistakes - which I couldn't say about
"team Bush" and adjust their standing. That applies to the hyped issues of
"settlements" (which I agree are very very minor issue compared to Arab
incitement and refusal to recognize Israel as Jewish state). Here's what
Netaniyahu said on the subject in his recent CNN interview:
              -----------------------------------------------
BLITZER: Mr. Prime Minister, there was an op-ed article written in "The
New York Times" back in July by an Israeli journalist named Aluf Benn, who
writes for the "Haaretz" newspaper. And, among other things, he said that
President Obama is ignoring Israel, has not visited Israel, even though
he's been to several Arab countries, and he's not reaching out to the
Israeli people, the way he's reaching out to the Arab and Muslim world. He
hasn't given any interviews, as far as I know, to the Israeli press, for
example, or Israeli television. Do you agree with that assessment?

NETANYAHU: I think that people should not rush to judgment. I think that
these are two new administrations, my own new government and the new
government in Washington. We have found a way to communicate. I think we
have resolved a lot of the issues between us. We can have differences.
That happens among the best of friends. It even happens in our own
              families.

But I think there's a growing closeness that I have found. What people
don't know - and I'm not referring to the public diplomacy - but I want to
tell you something about private diplomacy. There's virtually not a day
that goes by that the Obama administration and my own government don't
communicate on a very senior level on very important matters in a very
              confidential and respectful way.

And I say that advisedly. I'm choosing my words carefully. There's barely
a day that goes by without that happening. So, that should give you some
indication of the growing, of the closeness of that relationship. And it's
getting better, for sure. There's no question about it.
              ----------------------------------------------

I know I will draw ire of most of readers of this blog - but let us all
try to be more fact based and unbiased - after all that's what Israel
demands on UN and other institutions that "investigate" Gaza operation.
              Thanks!

While the analysis is great my concern is how to stop this Obama creep
from destroying all of us and our respective countries. Bush at least is a
Christian and saw things from that perspective, and still did things that
I do not consider good for my country. Such as not stopping Islamic
immigration after 9/11. Frankly we still treat the Saudi's as though they
are our friends, and they ARE NOT! Bush could have taken out the suspected
Iranian nuclear sites at any time from Iraq. What kind of morons really
believe it is for tiny Israel to solve the "Iranian problem" because they
are threatened? So are we, and we aren't doing it!

That Obama does what he does is understandable - he's a Jew-hating,
empty-headed Moslem, doing some behind-the-scenes-big-boy's bidding. That
his Jewish supporters can participate in this destruction of America and
Israel - this is the real amazement.

Politics and Religion - good for the indigestion, there's left and right
and right and wrong as far as I'm concerned.

              Caroline,

Every time I watch Obama and his attempts at foreign policy, I'm reminded
of the words of Thomas Paine: "Men who look upon themselves born to reign,
and others to obey, soon grow insolent; selected from the rest of mankind
their minds are early poisoned by importance; and the world they act in
differs so materially from the world at large, that they have but little
opportunity of knowing it's true interests, and when they succeed to the
government are frequently the most ignorant and unfit of any throughout
              the dominions."

              Thought Experiment:

If Barack Hussein Obama were an Iranian sleeper agent tasked with
attaining the US Presidency and then degrading the US strategic position
relative to the Islamic Axis, what would he have done differently, and
what would be doing differently now?

              Letter to an acquantiance.
              Dear J.
I don't think Afghanistan is the last stroke of the hand or pen,it's just
one on many wars that have worn out our military and wasted hundreds of
              billlions of dollars.
For some time I've seen that America under God's curse will fail at
everything,so the government/media is reduced to lying about how great
everything is and holding confrences and meetings where blah, blah, blah is
              all that's accomplished.
The Bush Clinton,Bush criminals have brought America to the point of no
return, the price of their destroy Israel by peace scheme.
Genesis 12:3 is in effect and Obama is just leading the final charge over
              the cliff.

Back in the mid 90's when I saw the remains of the public transport bus on
Jaffa and Sari Yisrael St. in Jerusalem where a Palestinian suicide bomber
killed so many men women and children and heard the Bully US incessant
pressure for Israel to restrain it's response for their fake peace I knew
God was going to start killing young American's for this evil.

It happened with the Afghan and Iraq war and continues with no end in
              sight.
They are repeats of the failed Vietnam war only with terminal
              consequences.
Our enemies see us as vunerable and worn out ,a perfect time to make their
              move against us.
I still think the end (US) is tied to Iran's EVENTUAL surprise move.
They have patiently worked towards their goal for some time and are very
              close to the endgame.
So far no EU figure is speaking great things and blasphemies.
Islam is making great moves in Europe and in the US with the help of the
godless left. It's God's judgment on the west and Israel suffers the same
              judgment for their faithless ways.
God has allowed Israel to get pushed up against the wall where they will
have to push back hard against Islam.
The vise squeezes until there is a counter reaction.
Jeremiah 51 :17-26 is what God is up to that most Christians don't see.

Maybe Dan from Piter can chime in from his rose window but to answer Paul
Kotik, I can't imagine anything done differently. If Paul's thoughts are
true, Barak's cover is getting thin. That so many would still support him
baffles me. Since last November's election, I've feared America is in the
"last daze". So far things have progressed as I suspected.

In these most dangerous times when Western civilization is under a mortal
threat by apocalyptic zealots, Obamas irretrievably political naivety and
idealistic foreign policy divinations against irreconcilable implacable
foes, makes him the most dangerous president ever to occupy the White
House. And as Caroline states sagely, only a politically weak Obama can
prevent him from implementing policies that would fracture America from
its close allies and would in turn seriously endanger the vital interests
of the civilized world, and indeed, of Israel, which being an outpost of
Western civilization among barbarians is at the forefront fighting
              fanatical Islam.

                Atoms are Forever

We wake up each morning to a world of hurt. The pain is all around us. We take an
anthropomorphic view, but all life experiences birth, reproduction and dissipation. Life is
often referred to as a gift. A better description would be to refer to life as food. We are
being harvested. The specter of life is to be consumed as food.

Life is a self-sustained chemical system capable of undergoing Darwinian evolution and DNA
are the self replicating molecules for the blueprints of life.

James Watson claimed that he and Francis Crick discovered the secret of life, the very
elegant double helix, DNA. Just four chemical bases stored in strands of double nucleotides
chains, each chain a replica of the other can spell the recipes for life. Their discovery
changed the world of science as it had been known up until that time.

These were the blueprints. The energy for life is ATP (adenosine triphosphate),
manufactured in photon pumps in the mitochondria of living cells. The analogy which is
sometimes used for ATP is a re-chargeable battery.

Over 30 years ago, Richard Dawkins in The Selfish Gene: "At some point a particularly
remarkable molecule was formed by accident. We will call it the Re-plicator. It may not
have been the biggest or the most complex molecule around, but it had the extraordinary
property of being able to create copies of itself."

"As the battery's energy is used, its energy state is lowered until it reaches the point
where it cannot be used again until it's recharged. ATP is the charged battery. ADP is the
discharged version, while the input of additional energy `recharges' ADP into ATP once
again, in a process known as oxidative phosphorylation." (Ed Regis, What is Life, 2008)

ATP synthesis is life's motive force. ATP is recycled, converted to ADP and back again to
ATP; over and over again. This process occurs in the mitochondria organelles in a cells
cytoplasm. A million mitochondria packed together would be no larger than a grain of sand.
In most cells there are hundreds of them and we get them all from our mothers. When the
synthesis of ATP stops the cell dies. Without it, muscles would not have their flexibility.
Without it, the deficiency of new ATP in cells, rigor mortis sets in.

(It is the phosphate in fertilizers which provides for ATP synthesis in plant cells.)

What is similar to all life is a means of reproducing. A single stranded version of the
double helix is RNA (ribonucleic acid) which can replicate. Its version uses uracil in
place of DNA's thymine. RNA molecules are called ribozymes. The theory is RNA came along
first and synthesized proteins and DNA came along later.

It has been suggested that RNA preceded DNA reproduction and perhaps it did because RNA can
replicate without DNA but DNA cannot replicate without RNA. RNA contains ribozymes which
with enzymes produces proteins and ALL life as we know it shares the same chemistry.
Pollock (94) in Signs of Life wrote: "...we are related enough to a duck and an orange that
                we can eat them both."

We are carbon based life. DNA is a helix of the building blocks of life: the code which is
a recipe for constructing and maintaining life. The three components necessary for life -as
we know it- is energy, water and carbon; all of which is found throughout the universe.

Most of our energy comes from the sun but now we know energy also comes from the core of
the planet as hydrogen sulfide which provides energy for life which survives without the
sun, i.e. thermophylic bacteria and other organisms which live in the depths of the oceans.

"...The current need for carbon from carbon dioxide by all photo-synthesizers totals one
hundred billion tons per year. Yet only a half billion tons per year is supplied as new
carbon into the biosphere from rocks and volcanos. Without recycling, global productivity
would only be a half billion tons per year, a mere two-hundredth of its current value.
Invert this number and we can say that our real world recycling the dead increases all life
two hundred times above what it would be without recycling. Death, thus two times more
life." (Tyler Volk, What is Death, a Scientist Looks at the Cycle of Life, 2002)

Life becomes food. Life feeds life and it changes, it is "chemically transformed", subsumed
by the planet "into a gigantic functioning system", says Tyler Volk.

"For example, a dead leaf fallen to the forest floor will be consumed by dozens of species
of soil detritus feeders, from worms to bacteria, who release some of the former carbon
into the leaf into carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Thus what happens to the dead
amplifies not just any one other organism but to some extent all of life..." (ibid)

There are some theories that life arrived on in meteorites or comets. 70 separate amino
acids have been discovered in meteorites and contain all the essential ingredients for
life. Meteorites and comets have impacted the earth throughout its history and the force of
these impacts transformed amino acids into the proteins necessary for life. And some
theories [see Harper, Nova TV series, WGBH 2005, Origins: How Life Began] suggest bacteria,
the precursor of eukaryotes arrived from outer space transported here by meteorites and
                comets.

Life is both prey and predator. My best non-human friend(s), my dogs, have the predatory
behavior of their ancestral wolf. My predatory behavior is tied to survival. Hostility and
war is as natural as life is old (in our frame of reference). My dogs also have instinctual
behaviors; they have "fear and flight" behaviors; they have hierarchy and dominance
behavior which they display with each other when they are not playing or sleeping and when
                cornered they will fight.

We in our species will just kill our enemies who are those who compete with us for
territory and resources - which has been the history of groups since time began.

Dogs stalk, chase, grab and bite each other. Predatory motor patterns are obvious behaviors
in animals and we are just animals with a larger brain and we assume an awareness of these
things, which evolved as our defense against predators and our offensive strategies and the
                success of our species.

Of course different animals display different patterns and so do we because we are by the
way, just animals ourselves, in spite of some who think humans are a higher form of life -
                which we are not.

We are human-centric organisms and are too often oblivious to the pain of other animals.
Some cultures eat animals we would never think about as food. And the females of several
species also eat their mates after they copulate with them. This happens with spiders and
some other animals. The males actually welcome being consumed by these female spiders
because it ensures that their sperm will have longer to fertilize her and eating the male
spider is a distraction so the female doesn't move on to another spider until she finishes
her meal. I wouldn't exactly call it love, but maybe to a spider it is. It most assuredly
is the ultimate in love making. I like sex but not that much. But you know humans have some
weird sexual perversions also and can be very self-destructive.

There are some things we may never know. We may become extinct as a species before we
discover the theoretical distinctions between what is known and what can only be imagined.

Humans however, have a heightened awareness of self which is why religion has played an
essential role in human life since the dawn of history. There has been fear responses which
rely on escapism and apologia for what appears inevitable, and the need to believe in
stories and myths was a way to stay sane - to find explanation is what would otherwise be
inexplicable, until we discovered science and tested the theories. In spite of how far we
have advanced intellectually there is still this fear response which makes it satisfying to
hold on to comfort myths. Those themes are balm for the pain which accompanies conscious
                minds.

Life is a product of death. Life recycles. Atoms become the stuff of new organisms. Death
                makes possible more life.

Not only spiders and mayflies and wasps and ants AND to humans too; the essentiality to all
                life is life.

"Biological recycling is the worm that munches leaf litter into microscopic bits that are
then further degraded by bacteria into nutrients that later can become tree leaves again
Death makes life..." (Tyler Volk, What is Death? -a scientist looks at the cycle of life-)

Life reproduces itself; it dissipates heat into the external environment. The cell is the
smallest life and besides pico-eukaryotes, bacteria is life; it is the life that was here
for billions of years before our more complex, nucleated cells, when Eukaryotic cells
                evolved.

Bacteria is also life but bacteria don't need to eat organic organisms to survive. They can
consume the garbage in land fills. They can consume carbon dioxide and they can clean up
                after oil spills.

"Life is distinguished not by its chemical constituents but by the behavior of its
chemicals. The question `What is Life?' is thus a linguistic trap. To answer according to
the rules of grammar, we must supply a noun, a thing. But life on Earth is more like a
verb. It repairs, maintains, recreates and outdoes itself." (L. Margulis and D. Sagen -
                What is Life? - 1995)

"The surge of activity which not only applies to cells and animals but to Earth's entire
atmosphere, is intimately connected to two of science's most famous laws--the laws of
thermodynamics. The first law says that throughout any transformation of the total energy
of any system and its environment is neither lost nor gained. Energy--whether as light,
movement, radiation, heat, radioactivity, chemical or other--is conserved." (ibid)

"But not all forms of energy are equal; not all have the same effect. HJeat is a kind of
energy to which other forms tend to convert, and heat tends to disorganize matter. The
second law of thermodynamics says that physical systems tend to lose heat to their
                surroundings." (ibid)

"The second law was conceived during the Industrial Revolution, when the steam engine
represented the state--of-art in engineering. French physicist Nicolas Carnot (1796-1832),
aiming to improve the efficiency of the steam engine (whose governor mechanism was invented
by James Watt), came to realize that heat was associate with the movement of minute
particles. And from that, he envisioned the principle that is now known as the second law.
In any moving or energy using system entropy increases."

"....(the first law of thermodynamics of conservation of energy holds), the amount of
energy available to do work decreases. In computer science entropy is measured as the
uncertainty in the information content of a message. The second law unequivocally claims
that in changing systems entropy increases, implying that heat, noise, uncertainty, and
other forms of energy not useful for work, increase. As local systems lose heat, the
universe as a whole is gaining it. Although not so popular now, in the past physicists and
chemists have made the prediction that the universe will whimper out in a `heat death' as a
consequence of the tendency for entropy to increase. More recently, they have even invented
the word `negentropy' for life, which in its tendency to increase information and
certainty, seems to contradict the second law. It doesn't; the second law holds as long as
one regards the system (LIFE) in its environment." (ibid)

As stated previously in quoting Ilya Prigogine, the interpretation of the second law has
changed and Prigogine, a Belgian Nobel laureate pioneered the view or "the consideration of
a larger class of `dissipative structures,' which also includes decidedly nonliving centers
of activity," [Margulis & Segan], i.e. whirlpools, tornadoes, flames. - A dissipative
system may grow and maintain itself. It does this by importing useful energy and exporting
less useful energy and as Margulis further points out, this thermodynamic view even extends
back to Schrodinger, who "likened living beings to flames, `streams of order' that maintain
                their forms." (Margulis and Sagan)

Important to life is the ability to be self-sustaining and increasing itself. This is the
basis of evolution. Natural selection is one aspect of evolution. And maintaining itself
[autopoiesis] is a fundamental aspect of life.

"Islands of order in an ocean of chaos, organisms are far superior to human-built machines.
Unlike James Watt's steam engine, for example, the body concentrates order. It continuously
SELF-REPAIRS (emphasis mine). Every five days you get a new stomach lining. You get a new
liver every two months. Your skin replaces itself every six weeks. Every year, ninety-eight
percent of the atoms in your body are replaced. This nonstop chemical replacement,
metabolism, is a sure sign of life. This `machine' demands continual input of chemical
energy and materials (food)." (Margulis and Sagan)

And the fundamental component of life must be `autopoiesis' The reference is to the
continuous producing of itself. The reference applies to all life. Life is purposeful. It
reproduces. The molecules at the end of eukaryote life dissipates back to the external
                environment.

"Life is a bitch, and then you die" - as the saying goes; but, it is somewhat of a comfort
to know that your life doesn't end, that it is transformative and is part of a much bigger
system, that you are integral to the process which sustains all life.

But to think about death as essential to life is to put us on the same level with the most
profound minds of history who recognized the focus of real life is not about death at all.
The focus on death distracts us from living. Life is existential. Life is self-awareness.

So why would we go through life asking ourselves what is death? We should change the
question to: What is Life? - because if life is predicated on death it is the gift of death
which gives us what is special which is our very unique consciousness and our loves and it
is our own atomic immortality we should be contemplating not the dying of our body.

                  Faster Global Warming Estimated

                  4 degrees warming "likely" without CO2 cuts-study
                  Sun Sep 27, 2009 8:01pm EDT

                  * Global temperatures could rise 4 degrees by 2050s

                  By Gerard Wynn

LONDON, Sept 28 (Reuters) - Global temperatures may be 4 degrees Celsius
hotter by the mid-2050s if current greenhouse gas emissions trends
continue, said a study published on Monday.

The study, by Britain's Met Office Hadley Centre, echoed a U.N. report
last week which found that climate changes were outpacing worst-case
scenarios forecast in 2007 by the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on
                  Climate Change (IPCC). [ID:nN24360533]

"Our results are showing similar patterns (to the IPCC) but also show the
possibility that more extreme changes can happen," said Debbie Hemming,
co-author of the research published at the start of a climate change
                  conference at Oxford University.

Leaders of the main greenhouse gas-emitting countries recognised in July a
scientific view that temperatures should not exceed 2 degrees above
pre-industrial levels, to avoid more dangerous changes to the world's
                  climate. [ID:nL6368126]

The IPCC shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for its fourth assessment
report, or AR4. One finding was that global temperatures could rise by 4
degrees by the end of the 2050s. Monday's study confirmed that warming
could happen even earlier, by the mid-2050s, and suggested more extreme
                  local effects.

"It's affirming the AR4 results and also confirming that it is likely,"
Hemming told Reuters, referring to 4 degrees warming, assuming no extra
global action to cut emissions in the next decade.

One advance since 2007 was to model the effect of "carbon cycles". For
example, if parts of the Amazon rainforest died as a result of drought,
that would expose soil which would then release carbon from formerly
                  shaded organic matter.

"That amplifies the amount of carbon dioxide that goes into the atmosphere
and therefore the global warming. It's really leading to more certainty,"
                  said Hemming.

                  DRASTIC

Some 190 countries will try to reach an agreement on how to slow global
warming at a meeting in Copenhagen in December.

Chinese President Hu Jintao won praise for making a commitment to limit
emissions growth by a "notable" amount, at a U.N. climate summit in New
York last week. Other leaders made pledges to agree a new climate pact.
                  [ID:nSP98073]

Temperature rises are compared with pre-industrial levels. The world
warmed 0.7 degrees last century, scientists say.

A global average increase of 4 degrees masked higher regional increases,
including more than 15 degrees warmer temperatures in parts of the Arctic,
and up to 10 degrees higher in western and southern Africa, Monday's study
                  found.

"It's quite extreme. I don't think it's hit home to people," said Hemming.
As sea ice melts, the region will reflect less sunlight, which may help
                  trigger runaway effects.

Such higher Arctic temperatures could also melt permafrost, which until
now has trapped the powerful greenhouse gas methane, helping trigger
                  further runaway effects, said Hemming.

"There are potentially quite big negative implications."

The study indicated rainfall may fall this century by a fifth or more in
part of Africa, Central America, the Mediterranean, and coastal Australia,
"potentially more extreme" than the IPCC's findings in 2007.

"The Mediterranean is a very consistent signal of significant drying in
nearly all the model runs," said Hemming. A 20 percent or more fall is
"quite a lot in areas like Spain already struggling with rainfall
                  reductions in recent years."

Two European Nuclear Scientists Arrested as Al-Qaeda Suspects

Posted By Annie Jacobsen On October 13, 2009 <at> 12:02 am In Crime, Europe,
Media, Science, World News | 25 Comments

Last week I was in Las Vegas attending a banquet honoring retired
intelligence officers, many of whom once worked for the CIA. Some of the
guests were still active. Others currently work for the Department of
Defense. There were four of us from the press.

I got to chatting in a three-way conversation with a former U-2 pilot and
a current defense contractor who frequents the Pentagon (and therefore
                    asked to remain anonymous).

Whats going to happen if al-Qaeda gets their hands on WMD? the pilot
                    asked.

They already have, the defense contractor said. Then he told the story of
how, just last January, al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) had bungled
a WMD experiment using bubonic plague.

None of you press wrote about that, the man said, eyeballing me.

I had to correct him because I did write about that story for Pajamas
                    Media [1]. My article cited two papers, the Sun and the Washington Times;
I couldnt locate any firsthand sources with access to the information. How
do you know that the information was correct? I asked my fellow banquet
                    guest.

I was at the military briefing, he said. Then he added that the briefing
was not classified and included several members of the press.

Why do you think that story wasnt more widely reported? I asked.

He said something to the effect of: there are some things the public finds
                    easier to ignore.

I had the same reaction when I returned home from my trip on Friday night
to read a single-line item on the Counterterrorism Blog [2]: Switzerland:
Terror cops arrest Collider scientist linked with al-Qaeda, it said. The
Collider is the largest nuclear research facility in the world. For at
least the next forty-eight hours the story did not appear anywhere in the
U.S. press, despite the fact that the arrested nuclear scientist, a
32-year-old Algerian-born French man named Dr. Adlene Hicheur, was being
described by Frances Central Directorate of Interior Intelligence as a
very high-level operative with AQIM. Thats the same group whod been
experimenting with bubonic plague earlier in the year. Adlene Hicheur had
attended Stanford University [3], in California, in 1999 and 2002.

Looking into the story, I quickly learned that the charges against the
mild-mannered, deeply religious French Algerian were stunning. Authorities
say Dr. Adlene Hicheur and his 25-year-old brother Halim, also a nuclear
scientist, had provided al-Qaeda with data on terrorism targets including
the Large Hadron Collider in Geneva. That facility, located underground on
the Swiss-French border, is not your average nuclear facility. It is a
17-mile underground tunnel track where scientists are trying to create
anti-matter by smashing atoms together. The results, the scientists hope,
will create mini black holes and allow scientists to further explore
theories about what happened after the Big Bang created the universe 14
billion years ago. Throw terrorists into that mix and a lot could go
                    wrong.

It was at the Collider that Dr. Adlene Hicheur has spent the last six
years working as an independent contractor for the European Organization
for Nuclear Research (CERN). We can confirm that Adlene Hicheur was a
member of the experimental collaboration at CERN, a spokesman for CERN
told the press. Equally alarming and according to the Daily Mail [4], the
younger Hicheur brother carries out research at similar high-security
scientific institutions around Europe. This includes a top-secret nuclear
research center in England called the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

French authorities [5] have been watching the brothers for the past 18
months. According to Interior Minister Brice Hortefeux, the decision to
arrest the Hicheurs came after email correspondences between at least one
of the brothers and known AQIM operatives had been intercepted by French
intelligence agents. According to European intelligence sources, MI5 had
been warned that the suspects are outstanding scientists who had been
honing their techniques in nuclear fusion across the world, says the Daily
                    Mail [4].

Both brothers are internationally known and respected scientists [3] with
access to top-secret nuclear facilities throughout Europe. To those who
knew the brothers personally, the news came as a blow. They were held out
to young people here as an example of what you could achieve, whatever
your background, a local youth worker from the brothers French town of
Vienne told an Indian newspaper, the Siasat Daily [3]. There is a state of
shock at what has happened and some anger, the worker said.

Angry or not, this story is not something anyone should find easy to
                    ignore.
