Re: Building 7

Eli's trying to camouflage with witty sophistry that he's a
'conspiracy-nut', too:

His conspiracy is that 2500 feet of concrete and steel were literally
pulverized into a heap of smoldering ash by 19 heavily surveilled
fanatical brown kooks who managed to circumvent NORAD and defy both
the laws of physics and thermodynamics using their wits and, of
course, box cutters.

It's a theory so absurd as to hardly merit comment. Perhaps we could
all agree to disagree and chalk it up to Jesus.

There's an idea. Jesus did it.

Lenin, on the other hand, ignores the brown kooks all together,
claiming that a 50-story steel structure could collapse onto itself
at free-fall speed. How simple things become when one averts one's
eyes from material reality!

While their conspiracy theory - let's call it the Stephens-Ashcroft
Hypothesis - may be compelling enough for some to accept, I'm afraid
I find it a bit too... miraculous.

I'm glad the analysis of other geopolitical issues on their
respective blogs isn't so naive and pedestrian. If it were, I
certainly wouldn't be a regular reader.

Solidarity,
Shawn

Open letter to Australian Labor Party conference

The following letter, signed by union leaders from a range of political
backgrounds that Socialist Alliance helped to coordinate, was distributed to
all delegates and the media at the recent ALP conference. While unsuccessful
there, the Victorian CEPU is initiating an alliance to defend the right to
strike.

Open letter to ALP conference delegates

Reject Work Choices! Defend the Right to Strike!

'The right to withdraw labour is the only thing that distinguishes a free
worker from the slave.'
Clyde Cameron, Labour Minister in the 1972-75 Whitlam government

After Kevin Rudd was elected as federal Labor leader, he promised that a
Rudd government would "tear up Work Choices".

So we were shocked to hear Kevin Rudd announce to the National Press Club on
April 17 that a Rudd government would keep key elements in Howard's Work
Choices legislation, in particular the attack on the right to strike and the
ban on industry-wide ("pattern") bargaining.

Rudd uses the rhetoric of "fairness" and "balance" between the interests of
employers and employees.

But there is no balance in what he has announced.

First, the right to strike for the promotion and protection of workers'
social and economic interests is an internationally recognised human right.
Rudd's proposal that workers would only be allowed to strike during the

is this an invitation to discuss physics and thermodynamics again? (he
asks, licking his chops).

by the way, osama bin laden is supposedly trained in civil engineering,
and though i cant know if he calculated the buildings would drop, i
suspect he knows a thing or two about the potential for damage.

anyway, if we are to have these technical conversations, it would be
nice if people read the old threads on this stuff, so we don't have to
start from scratch on every damn detail every damn time....this stuff
HAS been covered before, from multiple viewpoints.

i don't like the "fanatical brown kooks" thing, even if its a rhetorical
flourish.

Les

"Rhetorical flourish"? My, you are charitable. "Flagrant racism" would be
more on the mark.

Right, that's what happened. Except that part about the laws of physics.

I don't think this list needs a 911 rehash. Please.
