Yesterday's Man

So, Pete Seeger becomes the latest in a long pedigree of senescent old farts to "repudiate" Stalin and all
His Works. But, for a relic who hasn't uttered a newsworthy remark since 1953, the honors are limited to the
sound of one hand clapping in the *New York Times*.

A CALL TO ARTISTS! Calling all Boricua Artists for a Fund
Raising CD to aid our Puerto Rican Political Prisoners!!

The Welfare Poets and The ProLibertad Freedom Campaign have come together to
collaborate on a fund-raising project to directly aid the current Puerto
Rican Political Prisoners; incarcerated for fighting for the independence
and self-determination of Puerto Rico. Additionally, we would also want to
assist past political prisoners who have been freed and are now attempting
to survive in a system where many channels are closed to them. It is also
our intention to create a general legal fund to assist present and even
possibly future political prisoners.

We are directing this posting to local bands and world renown Puerto Rican
artists who have the eye of the music world. Depending on how many artists
come forward and who actually submit songs, there is a po-tential for us to
get funds so distribution can be created on a larger scale.

Regarding Song Submissions:
•We have begun accepting submissions.
•All submissions and questions about submissions can be sent to:
FreedomAlbum <at> gmail.com
•We want all artist of all genres to be apart of this potentially monumental
album for Freedom -- Bomba, Plena, Hip Hop, Reggaeton, Salsa, Jibaro,
Regggae, Punk, Rock or any other form of music

--a coherent anti-imperialist and anti-war movement cannot be only based...

A *coherent anti-imperialist and anti-war movement* cannot be only based
on the mobilization of the feeling anti warlike. It must demolish the
criminals military and question its right to govern.A necessary
condition to demolish the governors is to debilitate and to possibly
dismantle its campaign of propaganda.

The acquired speed of the great anti-war manifestations around the
world, must be taken advantage of to *establish the foundations of a
permanent communications network*, composed of tens of thousands of
anti-war committees at local level in the neighborhoods, places of work,
parishes, schools, universities, etc... It is finally through this
network that the legitimacy of those who govern « in our name » will be
defied.

The anti-war and anti globalization movements must be *integrated in a
single world-wide movement*. The people must be united by all the
sectors; the groups who only worry about « a single problem » must unite
the hands in a common and collective understanding in how the New World
Order destroys and impoverishes.

The globalization of this fight is fundamental, requiring a new and
*never seen* degree of solidarity and internationalism *in world-wide
history*. The present global economic system feeds in the discord and
the social division between and within the countries. The unit in the
intention and the world-wide coordination between diverse groups, social
organizations and movements is crucial. A common commitment for the
elimination of the poverty and a lasting world-wide peace must be
consolidated quickly.

We propose to *interconnect* to all the existing networks of

Bolívar and Chávez
The Spirit of Radical Determination
by Istvávan Mészáros

"The task of radical renewal is by no means confined to Latin America.
The social and political movements of the European left, as well as of
North America, are also in need of a major reassessment of their past
and present strategies, in view of their painful defeats in the last few
decades."

The Militant Labor Forum presents: Free the Cuban Five!

Antonio Guerrero, Gerardo Hernández, Ramón Labañino,
Fernando González, and René González were convicted and
sentenced on frame-up charges in a 2001 trial in Miami.
They were on a mission to monitor the activities of Cuban-
American counterrevolutionary organizations based in Miami
that have a history of carrying out violent attacks against Cuba
with the complicity of the U.S. government.

This forum is part of a month of public events organized by
supporters of the campaign to free the Cuban Five. Come to a
discussion to learn more about who they are, why they are in jail,
and how you can help win their release.

"Renters squeezed by housing shortage" (AP) + Comment

{Comment}

In Cuba, by law, maximum rent is 10% of a family's monthly income and
evictions on grounds of foreclosure neither exist in law or
practice. For contrast, see the article below on the good ole U.S.A.

Renters squeezed by housing shortage
By DAVID CRARY and RACHEL KONRAD, Associated Press Writers
Fri Sep 14, 5:55 PM ET

STAMFORD, Conn. - This isn't how Simon and Jennifer Morris envisioned
married life — sharing a charity-subsidized suite with four other
hard-up families, abiding by a curfew and other rules that make them
feel they are back in high school.

But for a working-class couple with two small children, trying to
stick it out in their pricey hometown, housing options are few.

They abandoned their previous one-bedroom apartment when the rent
rose from $1,200 to $1,425. Public housing has long waiting lists, so
they moved into a shelter for dislocated families in a converted
YMCA. The goal: Save enough money to move south and buy a home where
costs are lower.
