RE: [SOCUNMOD] RE: Less divisive and more inclusive. (PLS)

Friend Mark, I am extremely interested in what you have to say. I think you bring a perspective to "this
cluster" that is unique and valuable. I do not know enough to about the conflict between you and Michael to
comment intelligently. I will say only that the Left is so small and it such a precarious position, that
fighting each other is doing the capitalists work for them. Because of your contact with Greens for
Democracy and Independence ( GDI ) you bring to this discussion a unique perspective. Within the S P we have
been some what consumed with an internal struggle. I have followed the GDI debate, opining infrequently.
I think we may be fighting in GDI for the possession of a corpse, i. e. the GP US. I also believe that 2008 that
because of the Clinton / DLC money that will flow through the political process that another run by Nader
and Camejo is probably the only hope for ra
ising progressive issues like labor law reform, national health care, most importantly withdrawing
the US Military from Iraq. . From the ISO to DSA there are people that believe raising these issues within a
electoral setting is highly important. Since we frequently do not talk, except to take swipes at each
other, that applies to everyone and every group, we do not come any closer to regroupment. David
McReyonlds has raised a " Caucus Above Party " strategy where we first talk respectfully to those we know
across organizational lines. I have suggested that regional groupings are the next step. Chicago seems
to be a place where everyone from ISO to DSA can at lest co-sponsor a forum. The Bay area in CA seems to be
another such place. I have attempted to copy everyone that anyone else who as added to this dialogue has
copied. Mark, could I presume on our cyber friendship to ask you to explain the current state of the Green
Party as you See it. I do not think most folks in
this cluster understand the the paper organization problem facing the GP US or the profound split
the GDI folks and the GP's current leadership. Understanding where we are is the first step to going
forward. In Solidarity, Gabe Ross

Mark Lause <MLause <at> cinci.rr.com> wrote: If this cluster isn't interested in my response, why am I being copied?

Oh, yeah, Michael, I do remember you now. Shortly before encountering
you, I had just gotten by application for SP membership from Bill Pelz
in Chicago. After our discussion, I never filled it out.

You're the Socialist who was clubbing together with that Democratic

It's hot in Idaho, I'm cranky

NOTE BY HUNTER BEAR:

Portions of this sweeping and proliferating several-sided "conversation" are
flowing into various corners including our Marxist group. That's OK with me
as matters now stand. But I did spot my name in something Mark Lause has
just written. Last fall or so, he left our Redbadbear list -- an
essentially free-wheeling entourage and one not deeply into intricately and
rigidly defined ideologies -- without giving any reason [at least as I
recall.] His withdrawal, which I and others regretted [and regret],
appeared to stem from an admittedly sharp debate which he was having with a
committed Democrat. If it got a little heated, I really don't think it was
unduly so. Bro. Lause is on other lists of which I am aware that can get
quite rough and tumble.

As moderator of Redbadbear, and its "owner" [whatever that means], I draw
the line against porn hustlers, consistent practitioners of various kinds of
anti-people prejudice/discrimination, and Twaddle.
About twice a year, I'll also inject myself into a discussion that's
"crown-firing" and suggest that all parties tone it down. [Being considerate
souls, they all do just that.] In Solidarity, Hunter Bear

From Mark Lause:

Subject: AN APPEALTO HELP GUJARAT FLOOD RELIEF

 AN APPEAL TO HELP
 GUJARAT FLOOD RELIEF

Friends,
The Socialist Unity Centre of India, Gujarat unit has started the relief works in Baroda. Today a medical
camp was set-up in Akota area. About 150 patients were treated and given medicines. There are cases of
dehydration, jaundice, fever, wounds etc.The Medical camps will continue.
Apart from the medical camps food packets were distributed in different areas of Baroda.SU.C.I.
volunteers evacuated the marooned people and brought them to the safer place and gave them food in Surat
earlier.Due to torrential rain it is not possible to carry out relief works. Our offices were under water
in Baroda and Surat. We are not able to go for public collection due to heavy rain in Baroda , Surat and Ahmedabad.
Now we are concentrating on Medical Relief AS WE FELT IT IS VERY VERY URGENTand after a proper survey of the
flood affected villages we may do other relief work.
Friends you know S.U.C.I. always try to render humanitarian service to the people at the time of
calamities. In Gujarat we have worked during cyclone, droughts, floods and killer earthquake taking
help from the people. We also worked in super cyclone Orissa, Tsunami and Latur- Khilari earth quake
areas. We depend on public collections only.
flood relief. The Medical Service Centre which rendered valuable medical services in Orissa Super
Cyclone, Killer Earth Quake in Gujarat, Tsunami in South India and Andaman Niccober are joining here to
render Medical service in Flood affected areas of Baroda ,Anand ands Kheda area.
We appeal you to help us.
The relief Co-ordination Centre is opened in Baroda, Ahmedabad and Surat.

Several months ago, ProLibertad  reported on Oscar Lopez Rivera’s transfer;
this article was written by Jan Susler for the National Boricua Human
Rights Network about Oscar current conditions

Posted Tuesday, June 28, 2005

April of this year marked the 25th anniversary of the arrest of eleven
Puerto Rican political prisoners. April also marked the opening of an art
exhibit featuring paintings and ceramics created by two remaining Puerto
Rican political prisoners, Oscar López Rivera and Carlos Alberto Torres...
an exhibit scheduled to travel throughout the United States and Latin
America. Not coincidentally, after having served 24 years of a 70 year
sentence, April also marked Oscar’s unsolicited transfer from one maximum
security prison to another... a prison where he not only has more difficulty
maintaining his health and his family and community ties, but where painting
is virtually impossible.

While prison officials would undoubtedly deny that Oscar’s transfer was
