Address at the 88th Annual American Legion National Convention
As Delivered by Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld, Salt Lake City,
Utah, Tuesday, August 29, 2006
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you so very much. I appreciate that a great deal, that warm
welcome. Earlier, a few minutes ago, I had a chance say hello to Senator
Bennett and Senator Hatch, both of whom have provided such fine
representation for this state and strong support for the Department of
Defense and for the men and women in uniform. Members of the congressional
delegation, I believe, are here -- Rob Bishop and Christopher Smith. We
thank you for being here. The mayor, Mr. Corroon -- thank you. Distinguished
guests.

Michael Peterson, if I could sing, I'd sing just like that. (Laughter.)
That is very nice. (Applause.)

And to the spirit of youth, young folks, I had a chance before I came
him to watch their presentations on television. We appreciate your
thoughtfulness and your service.

To the Spirit of Service Awardees, congratulations. It is impressive to

THE ARCHITECT:
KARL ROVE AND THE MASTER PLAN FOR ABSOLUTE POWER

James Moore, Wayne Slater

PUBLISHERS WEEKLY -

This bold follow-up to journalists Moore and Slater's bestseller, Bush's
Brain,
takes a provocative look
at how Karl Rove used George Bush's various campaigns and presidency
to engineer nothing less than the assertion of a long-term Republican
hegemony
and the complete dismantling of the Democratic Party.

To make their case, they draw on a wide range of materials,
including interviews and reportage done by other journalists
to demonstrate how Rove mobilized his party's base,
forging an unlikely alliance between religious and economic conservatives,
while mounting targeted assaults on gays and lesbians, trial lawyers and

Fwd: Support our troops. Bring 'em home.

Although this does not go far enough and uses language that suggest our troops
won't come homeanly withdrawn from south Afganistan, I think we need to aplaud
this move by jack while at the same time demanding more and convine canadians
that weather we are in a counter-insercency miossion or a so
called"peacekeeping mission", both those mission tactics equates to imperialism.

Canada out of Afganistan

I know it is preaching to the choir an I know alot has been written on it but
as long as Canada has troops in Afganistan I will be writing stuff that
advocates for them to be brought home. This is an article I sent to the
craigandcanyon and the canmore leader. I don't expect it will be published but
you never know unless you try. feel free to post it anywhere and you can also
view it at www.myspace.com/killharper in the blog section

"The establishment came down with a constitutional package which they put to a
national referendum. The package included distinct society status for Quebec
and some other changes, including some that would just horrify you, putting
universal Medicare in our constitution, and feminist rights, and a whole bunch
of other things."

- Conservative leader Stephen Harper, then vice-president of the National
Citizens Coalition, in a June 1997 Montreal meeting of the Council for
National Policy, a right-wing American think tank.

This is one of the many comments our Prime Minister has made in the past
that make clear his view on women, Quebec's right to self determination and
universal healthcare. he has made other comment in the past suggesting that we
should have gone to Iraq with the Americans. We all now know what kind of can
of worms the Bush administration opened up in Iraq and the war crimes that
Americans have commited there, weather it be Hadittah(spelling?) or Abu Graib.
As the body bags continue to come home from Afganistan, more and more
Canadians are starting to question Canada's involment in the war in
Afganistan.Earlier this year, the Canadian government extended the mission in
Afganastan and with it garunteed that more body bags will continue to come
home. Canadians deserve to know the truth about our role in the war in

Deal would free 1,000 for Israeli soldier

Deal would free 1,000 for Israeli soldier

CAIRO, Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Saudi newspapers say Israel has been working toward
securing the release of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit in negotiations with
Hamas in Egypt.

Newspaper Okaz reported that a senior Arab source said Israel and Hamas have
been working on a deal to release the soldier in exchange for the freedom of
1,000 Palestinian prisoners, YNetNews.com reported Friday.

Under the deal, Israel would begin freeing the prisoners, including 500 women
and juveniles, three days after Shalit is turned over to Egyptian custody.
First, 350 prisoners serving short prison terms would be released, followed
several days later by 350 prisoners serving medium terms and 300 prisoners
serving long sentences 10 days after that.

Hamas has approved the deal, and the Jerusalem Post said the Egyptian
moderators were awaiting a response from Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

"The Egyptians are keeping their line of communication with the kidnappers
open on a low flame," one source told the Post. "The plan is in place. All
Israel needs to do is answer the request."
