Ray Cirino's Butt House Cob Workshop

Ray Cirino’s  Butt House Cob Workshop

 Why hasn’t anyone
really made a restroom fun and educational? How come when there is a composting
toilet made its hidden away in the woods with hardly any details to make it
last in your mind?

 We plan on changing
all the myths and scary things that have been attached to resting in that room.
They call it that to avoid scaring people or calling it a bathroom to avoid dealing
with that so called problem. Well now you can help yourself in learning cob and
composting in our first cob workshop here at Water
 Woman Gardens.
Serious attention will be put to this structure and the importance of
composting. First it will resemble a butt so it’s easy to know what it is and
we all know what that does.  Second it
will have no smell except for gardenia, roses, mint, or lavender that surround
it. Third the hardware details will mimic the microbs that digest the
nutrients. The roof will be able a living roof and able to catch some rainwater
for the garden. Let’s make this workshop bring the right attention in a fun way
to solve the problems and myths of restrooms once and for all.

Zero farming, anyone

Nice post Jamie. Where are you based? I've been trying to contact Marc Bonfils recenlty as there's a whole
load of Bakers around here getting into wheat production and old varieties/organic etc do you have a
contact for him?

You make several points that raise the old subject of technique versus understanding, specific
techniques will vary across climates/ecosystems but the clarity given by understanding will not.
Emilia had an understanding of Fukuoka's approach and applied that to developing her own system in her own zone.

There is a film about Rishi Keshi natural farming group on the web somewhere and there must be many others.
The British got broad access to One straw Revolution because an Indian group got it published in English,
15 years ago there was only 3 copies in England that I knew of, however the Francophone community could get
it in any good bookshop, hence the confusion here between PmC and Nat Farm.

Suraj's original post also showed how deeply ingrained is the idea that PmC is a food production system
rather than a design system that appropriately uses the 100,000 techniques and 10,000 strategies
available for the development of sustainable human communities.

Zero farming, natural farming, synergistic gardening and of course there is wild farming which is the
no-cultivation of wildfood plants of mass-production (adapt me to the environment). And then there is
designing the system completely, permaculture innit.

Give it a try. I would love to hear recordings of owls and whipporwills.
At one time this area had several types of owls, whipporwills, snipes,
hawks, geese, mourning doves and more that could be hear each year.

I may get a DS-40. This way I can record with one, play it back at the frogs and record
their response.

kudzu starts

I was wondering if anyone might have any kudzu (Pueraria montana) rhizome
starts I could buy or trade for? I could pay shipping costs. It's pretty
hard trying to find a purchase source on the internet due to this plant's
condemned status. But nonetheless, what a useful species! Forage for
goats, bees etc., valuable root starch, prodigious soil builder and a
nitrogen fixer to boot! Safe enough to use here outside of Denver,
Colorado where we don't have a lot of rainfall and cold winters to check
it dispersal; not that anthropogenic dispersal is 'bad' or anything :)
Maybe a guild possibility in this bioregion with Juglans due to J.'s
nitrogen requirements. Pack that with pawpaw and goats and I think we
might have a winner!

Re: Zero farming, anyone

Hello Steve, no, I don´t have a contact for him anymore, last I heard he was
living in Provence.

I guess you´re talking about ASPAARI and the Paysans Boulangeurs, it´s good
work and they´re uncovering a good selection of ancient varieties,
especially true winter wheat´s for the Bonfils method.

If you´re looking to do your own trials of the method Nicholas Supiot of
ASPAARI should be able to help for your region. But I expect you already
know him.

I´m living in Spain but have been in France for some years before.

You can find a selection of Fukuoka´s books here
www.groups.google.com/groups/medNF

I should also mention there is much work by Marc Bonfils held by Association
Las Encantadas that I have made available, along with Emilia´s work here:

Good Luck
