Free Online Tool for Farmers Markets

Hi All!

Hope all is well wherever you are.

Just wanted to tell you about our latest tool; we are really excited about it since it has been a couple years in the making.

Farming Faces is a tool for markets (and other groups of farmers) to set-up a mini-website that maps the vendors at their market and includes a live feed that connects to each farmer's facebook, twitter, a blog (if available). The idea is that these sites will be kept constantly "fresh" by capitalizing on the tools that are already being used.

I grew up on a farm and ran a CSA myself, so I know how hard it is to fit marketing in between all the other activities on a farm. We didn't want to create another point of failure and another "job" for farmers, so the Farming Faces sites will maximize the return on investment for the marketing time that farmers can spend on it.

Best of all, this service is *free* in support the other work we do with farmers. This service will remain free although we will add advanced paid services in the future.

Farmers market managers we have shown this to so far are really impressed with how easy it is to use and what a powerful tool it is to market their farmers. Just seeing a map of where all their vendors come from is really interesting because they have never had a way to create a comprehensive map before.

If you want to see an example check this one out:

We look forward to your feedback!

Partner wanted for new farm

We’re looking for a farmer / farm couple with expertise in any of vegetables, berries, fruit, mushrooms, medicinal herbs and / or livestock to help re-create a farm, preferably using permaculture principles, on this 150-year-old former dairy farm. It’s 200 acres, about 50 acres pasture / meadow, most of the rest forest, in East Meredith, NY (Delaware County, near Delhi / Oneonta).

There’s plenty of water, sun and worms. The barn is no more. The land is organic (unofficially). Would like to develop a relationship beginning with rent or lease, leading to some kind of cooperative arrangement.

This is a unique opportunity for the right people to establish an operation from scratch. To discuss possibilities, please call Carl Arnold at 718 788 5944 or 607 278 5820, or e-mail resume and letter to carlarnold-ee4meeAH724@public.gmane.org.

8/25: Share Tompkins Visioning Meeting

Share Tompkins Visioning Meeting

Thursday, August 25, 6-8pm
Owl Cafe above Autumn Leaves book store
115 The Commons
Ithaca, New York

RSVP on Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=245494768815650

Share Tompkins has been going strong now for over two years! During
that time, we've had an event almost every month and we have really
energized local sharing culture. More and more groups are organizing
swaps both in partnership with and independently of Share Tompkins and
now there is a new locally-produced website called Swidjit (http://swidjit.com/ithaca
) that makes sharing and bartering online even easier for our
community. Along the way, we've been featured in the New York Times,
Yes! Magazine and Positive News and were recognized as a "Sign of
Sustainability" by Sustainable Tompkins.

So what's next? We could keep doing more of the same, but those of us
who are core event organizers are getting a bit fatigued, so others
would have to really step up to run these gatherings. Alternatively,
we could focus more on promoting other groups' events and perhaps
organize only one or two Really Really Free Markets and/or Swaps a
year. Another thing that I'd like to offer is more "meta" events in
which we discuss strategies for bartering effectively and attempt to
ignite more sharing groups like toolshares, resilience circles, etc.

There are, of course, lots of other things we could do. So we're
having a meeting to see where people's energy is and move forward with
a collective vision!

Please feel welcome to come and participate even if you have never
been to an organizers' meeting before!

- Shira :)

land and cabin for sale

Dear Friends,

I apologize for any cross posting, but want to make sure that you all know that I am looking to sell my land and cabin in the Finger Lakes National Forest. It is the most amazingly secluded and peaceful situation in the region, although not very accessible once the snow flies.

You can find details and photos at www.SoaringSpirit1.org/moving_on  Since I will be out of touch by early September, I would love to give the potential next stewards a personal tour of the place before then. In any case, I've developed an owner's manual detailing all of the specialized systems and appliances here.

Feel free to share this information with any like-minded folks. Thank you!--Susan Wiener

This course will combine critical design skills with leadership,
nature connection, and most importantly an urban focus, building
and exceeding upon the internationally-recognized Permaculture
Design Certification curriculum. Our programs offer by far the
most complete curriculum of any similar course -- with a huge
focus on leadership, personal growth and community design as well
as green business.

You'll learn how to create sustainable, thriving human systems,
from green houses and organic gardens, to local micro-economies
and communities, using sustainable design principles that are
applicable to every human system, from businesses, communities,
and cities to personal relationships.

"The experiences I have had and people I have met through
Common Circle has been life changing. On these trips, a
community is created and everyone's individuality is honored,
welcomed and celebrated as you work together each day to
prepare meals, confront issues large and small and discover
how each and every one of us can be the change that we wish
to see in the world." - Marlee F, Course Graduate

Because of our unique focus on Urban and Suburban solutions,
our courses are radically different from most other programs,
teaching permaculture as a design science rooted in nature.
With most of the world's population in cities, we must
meet people where they live with real sustainable solutions.

RE: The Permaculture and Sustainability Across America 2012 Bicycle Tour

Hello friends,

You know that at Common Circle Education, we're busy changing
the world -- and we take our responsibility as the nation's
leadership, sustainable living and permaculture school
seriously. Today we're announcing our most powerful program
yet - a cross-country permaculture design course on bike.

More details <at> http://commoncircle.com/cross-country-bicycle-tour

Come ride your bicycle with us across the country learning
about and promoting sustainability and permaculture. Our most
powerful program yet - a supported cross-country tour (support
vehicle, meals and lodging included) to farms and
sustainability sites, integrated with our award-winning
permaculture design and regenerative leadership certification
and much more -- this program will change your life.

This three-month intensive course combines our Urban
Permaculture and Regenerative Leadership Certificate training,
followed by a Wilderness First Aid training before we head on
the road cycling from Eugene, Oregon all the way across
America to Washington DC (we’ll be roughly following the
TransAM bike route – about 4200 miles), promoting and
learning about sustainable living and intentional communities.
The stunning places you will visit on this program and the
extraordinary people you will meet will challenge and inspire
you..

Who: You and your neighbors who care about a sustainable
future for America. As always, all of our programs are
designed for beginner and intermediate cyclists.

Where: Eugene, Oregon to Washington, DC

When: June 1 - August 31, 2012

Program cost: $6000 regular rate
pay just $4500 before September 1st
               payment plans available

More details <at> http://commoncircle.com/cross-country-bicycle-tour

This program is about sustainable community living –
through the extensive training and preparation, the group will
form a self-contained community on wheels that will cycle
across the nation learning and promoting sustainable living.
Because all of our programs are always designed for beginner
and intermediate cyclists, we will teach you how to fix your
own flats, fundamentals of bicycle mechanics, wilderness first
aid, many safe bicycle touring skills, and provide you with
the best possible routes. The permaculture training at the
start of the course will give you a very thorough foundation
in sustainable community design. Our experienced program
co-facilitators will help facilitate the entire program,
holding the community container and sharing their experience
and guidance along the way — but otherwise serving
primarily as members of the community.

Here are some quick facts about this program:

--> Includes our Urban Permaculture Design and Regenerative
    Leadership Certification training
--> Includes our Oregon Sustainability in Motion Bike Tour
--> Includes a Wilderness First Aid certification training!
--> We will be following the TransAM route – roughly 4000 miles.
--> Average of 60 miles per day (~4-8 hours per day) with
rest/service days roughly once per week
--> This is a supported tour – a vehicle carries all the gear.
--> Meals are included – organic and vegan ingredients and
menu will be provided, group members take turns cooking
--> Experienced and knowledgeable tour support staff team
    will cycle with the group.
--> Camping accommodations for most of the program

Aside from the amazing places you will visit on this course,
the most inspiring and transformational aspect of this program
is undoubtedly the incredible community that will form
throughout the course. The depth and richness of dialogue of
each of our programs naturally leads to friendships and
relationships that last well past the expedition itself.
We’ve often heard comments from participants who mention
that they have never experienced community the way that they
have during a Common Circle Education program.

Want to know more? Call us or email!

Much gratitude,

Vladislav for Common Circle Education
