The 5th International Film Festival on Water

Bangalore Film Society, Arghyam, Svaraj- Society for Voluntary Action Revitalization and Justice, Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival, Ithaca College, USA (FLEFF), Mountainfilm in Telluride, Alliance Francaise de Bangalore, Charter of Human Responsibilities, Samvada, Karnataka Chalanachitra Akademi and Water Journeys- Campaign for Fundamental Right to Water are organizing the fifth edition of the largest international film festival on water- Voices from the Waters 2010.

2010 begins as a critical year not just for `Voices from the Waters' which completes five years of existence but for environmental consciousness on the whole, as the thoughts and concerns regarding the existence and well-being of our rivers and streams are now being voiced in the mainstream. Now more than ever, there is a call for awareness, dialogue and debate to inform the actions on which the survival of our lifeworlds depend. We are at an instant of much possibilities and hope. We are in search of the voices that will guide us to a critical departure from the current paradigms towards our vision of better futures.

`Voices from the Waters 2010: The 5th International Film Festival on Water', the biggest, most dynamic and diverse platform of its kind invites you to be a part of the festival by contributing short, documentary, animation and feature films on water and related issues.

If you have a film in under any of the following categories:

Water Scarcity,

The Dams and the Displaced,

Water Harvest,

Water Struggles/Conflicts,

Floods and Droughts,

Global Warming and Climate Change,

Impact of Deforestation on Water Bodies,

Water, Sanitation and Health,

River Pollution,

The Holistic Revival of Water Bodies,

Water and Life.

You can consider sending it to us. Please note that the categories are loosely conceived and your film does not have to necessarily adhere to them while focusing on the larger theme of water.

 
Guidelines:

Entries to the Film Festival must include:  
1. DVD of the film (with English subtitles, if required)  
2. A completed and signed copy of the entry form  
3. Three high-resolution stills of the film (can be sent via email)  
4. A high-resolution photograph of the director (can be sent via email)  
Promotional materials are welcome

There is no entry fee.

All submitted films will be subject to a selection process by eminent members of the festival jury.

Applicant must pay for shipment of films to Voices from the Waters.

Submitted films will not be returned but will be part of Voices from the Waters library, one of the largest resources in the world for films on water.

Voices from the Waters is conceived as a travelling film festival. The selected films after being premiered in Bangalore at the main event will be taken across to educational institutions, non governmental organizations, small towns and villages across India.

Dear Friends, The Institute of Islamic Studies and the Centre for Study of Society and Secularism , Mumbai is going to organize a seminar cum workshop on ‘Rights of Muslim Women- Theory and Practice’ for those who are actively involved in promoting and working for the awareness of Muslim women’s right in their respective areas. This training will equip them with adequate knowledge and skills to do their work more effectively and efficiently. Needless to say such training is highly necessary for those working in this field. A list of subject mentioned below clearly shows how useful this training could be. 1. Islam and its origin and development. 2. Position of Women before Islam. 3. Concept of Women in Quran. 4. Management Sciences for Health (MSH) invites you to participate in the international virtual Forum: “Using Leadership and Management to Collaborate with Contraceptive Security Committees”, to be held from March 22 to 26, 2010. This event is organized by the Global Exchange Network for Reproductive Health (GEN) and financed by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). 

In recent years, many countries have been creating and developing Contraceptive Security (CS) Committees which incorporate representatives from multiple institutions of the public and private sector, cooperating agencies, NGOs, and other organizations involved in the development of family planning programs. The goal of CS Committees is to strengthen family planning programs and ensure the supply of contraceptive inputs at the country level. While many committees launched with enthusiasm from their members, many have experienced a gradual reduction in terms of technical assistance, participation and contributions from their members. Furthermore, many committees’ meetings have become infrequent, in some cases achievements have been limited, and, occasionally, the responsibility as well as the work of the committee as a whole has fallen exclusively to one group or sector. 

Undoubtedly, creating and maintaining a clear vision, developing a plan to achieve goals, and ensuring the continuity, commitment, and contributions of multi-sectoral committees constitutes a quite difficult and constant challenge. In order to mobilize, align and focus individuals from different sectors, with their own goals and resources, it is necessary to apply very effective leadership and management practices, approaches, and tools. That is why on this occasion we are dedicating this forum to share leadership practices which can help us to work more effectively with CS Committees.

During this forum, we will share leadership and management practices that can strengthen collaboration with CS committees, how we can use leadership and management to strengthen our skills and effectiveness, and analyze how these leadership practices and tools were applied in Mali and the Dominican Republic. We will conclude with a discussion about how we can improve our leadership and management practices so as to collaborate more effectively with the CS committees in our own countries. 

In this forum you will have the opportunity to:

1. Review effective Leadership and Management practices and tools, including the Challenge Model, focused on achieving results.

2. Share how we applied Leadership and Management practices in our work with CS committees and how to apply these practices to strengthen the work of CS committees.

3. Become familiar with and discuss the Leadership and Management practices that were applied, the challenges addressed and the success attained in two interesting cases: Mali and Dominican Republic.
