Assistant '. S/he is required to assist the Communications Manager in
coordinating all institutional written outputs including reports,
brochures, proposals and newsletters. S/he is required to update the
web pages regularly as well as assist in providing media outputs aimed
at increasing ATREE's visibility.

The candidate must have a bachelors or masters degree, have good oral
and written communication skills, and be well-versed in the use of
internet/email. This is a position based at Jakkur, Bangalore.

ATREE (www.atree.org) is fast emerging as one of South Asia's leading
conservation organisations. The organisation deals with issues
relating to India's rapidly diminishing biological resources and
natural ecosystems, and the environmental, social and economic
dimensions and
implications of this decline. It has a network of four offices and
field stations across India.

Dear Friends
As you know, about 4 million (40 Lakhs) population of Supoul, Madhepura and Saharsa district wre affected by the flood of river Kosi in Bihar in the month of August, 08 and Indian Government declared it as a National Calamity. Thousands and thousands hands came to help the victims. Also Ekta Parishad did relief work in three blocks of Saharsa and Madhepura district among 5000 families.
Although Government has announced Kosi Flood: Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Policy and so many promises for the rehabilitation of the victims, the negligence of the Government has created the worst situation and people are very angry with the Government. Present situation is very deplorable. People have lost their livelihood options, they need support, rehabilitation, employment and their cattle need gross and medicines. In this connection, Ekta Parishad wants to solve these problems through non violent action and dialogue with the Government.
Ekta Parishad and likeminded organisations are on footmarch from Supoul to Saharasa since February 20th to March 5th to create people’s pressure over the Government to take immediate attention over the flood victims.
We would like to request you to write a letter to the Honorable Chief Minister of Bihar to take immediate action on the following issues-

Deliver compensation and rehabilitation package as provided for in the “Kosi Flood: Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Policy” as promised by the State Government and Review the progress.
Ensure distribution of compensation to those who lost the tools of small trade and occupation.
Provide the seeds for crops and vegetables to victims farmers.
Ensure the all essential services properly especially health services delivery and Public distribution system.
Form a committee to review and monitor the process of rehabilitation and reconstruction of flood victims.
I hope that you will write a letter to Honorable Chief Minister of Bihar in this conjunction.

                Ekta Parishad and its likeminded organizations are organizing a footmarch with 200 Satyagrahees (from victims and other states like: Kerala, Tamilnadu, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa) from Supoul to Saharsa (20 February-5 March) and then they will start sit in at Saharsa with 5 000 people to get your attention.
                In this conjunction we would like to request to take immediate action on the following issues-

Dear all,

Seven attacks in the last ten days! In response to the recent attacks
against women in the city of Bangalore, many individuals and
organisations have come together to form FEARLESS KARNATAKA or
Nirbhaya Karnataka to reclaim public spaces and promote safety for
all.

In the wake of a series of attacks in Mangalore (the latest one was
reported on February 24, 2009), women have been targeted in the name
of morality, culture and "public decency". In Bangalore, the reasons
for the attacks have been on similar lines – during the attacks, the
girls were insulted for wearing jeans, sleeveless shirts and speaking
English. We believe that the attacks in Bangalore then are a
continuation of those that took place in Mangalore and coastal
Karnataka regions – even though the identity of the attackers (and the
organizations they belong to) could have differed.

In an attempt to fight against the climate of fear, the collective
would like to announce the following activities:
1. A protest march to the office of Dr. Ajai Kumar Singh, DG & IGP, on
March 7, 2009.
2. A `Take Back the Night' campaign on March 8, 2009
3. A poster campaign asking bystanders who witness attacks on women to
act

There are several other efforts, including signature campaigns, art
exhibitions, etc which are happening simultaneously..

There is some handy info like basic legal information and precautions
to be taken etc. available on baware.in/ .. spread the word.

Maraa is part of this campaign too and these are the few things we are
doing...

* making radio spots for FM channels
* making posters
* street theatre
* making short videos
* website support - updating blog, audio clips etc.
* photography

These things have to happen fast, in large numbers and in a short
time. We need many hands and ideas to implement this.

Where do you fit in? How can you help?

* Participate and get others involved in the 'Take Back The Night'
Campaign on March 8th, at Majestic (call us for more details)
* Know your facts, read press reports everyday
* Come to maraa from 2nd-7th at 4:00pm to work on above.. we really need more hands in all areas
* Create a buzz about this around your neighbourhood, office communities, corporate offices, colleges, schools, apartment complexes etc...
and inform them about how they can participate

situation, please let us know, you can fit into the larger framework

If you can translate this information in any language please do - try
to make it as local as possible. ALL communication and publicity
material can be in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Urdu,
Bengali and the rest.. This is crucial, since there is very little
work done in this area
