=v= I've been going to the Green Festival for years. Unlike so
many other ventures of this type, they actually emphasize things
that are actually good for the planet. Most other ventures are
greenwash festivals, peddling items with, say, a token swatch of
hemp fabric glued on them and calling them "green."

=v= Unfortunately, over the years, purveyors of dubious eco-cars
have gone from having a few demos sitting around into being the
event's major sponsors. This year it's Ford and Nissan, and in
San Francisco the only way to get a free admission pass is to
walk into a car dealership!

=v= This is the exact opposite of saving the planet. I will
not be attending this year.

I was in the 2010 election as a city council candidate for the City of Morgan Hill in California. One of my candidate meetings was in a suburb area which I had easily rode my bike to. They were impressed but also could have been worried that I might turn the city car-free. Could this have been the main thing that lowered my votes?

Did it lower your votes? Maybe, but if you play it right, it could win you an election. Politicians in many areas are learning that bikers can be mobilized to block vote. However those who believe they are can't live without motor vehicles, are terrified of those of us who vote for bike paths.
