So last night I am laying in bed reading with the TV still on after watching
ABC news at 10:00 p.m. and all of a sudden I hear Michael Burton's voice. I
looked up to see a segment about biking in Chicago and MB talking about
carfree commuting with children. MB was shown lowering his young son Miguel
into his Kettler Teddy seat and pedaling away to daycare. Way to go
Michael!

4 wheel city maintenance bicycle with ball hitch

My invention can carry ladders, handyman tools, waterworks tools, fire
hoses, hydrants, and much more. It is a human powered truck. I was
trying to sell them to Morgan Hill public works, an average 5 mile
city with agriculture. For me 5 miles is ok to carry heavy tools, but
to them it was unneeded work. If I could only get a construction job
without a car. But instead I have a handyman business that does all
trades. But I still have city logos on the vehicles tool box.

Public transportation is the most efficient and there are hardly any
crashes they should build more in areas where sprawl exists so people
can take the bus instead of the cars.

new bus service York-Baltimore

I would have been interested in this bus service a few years ago when I was
looking for an offbeat way to travel from a friend's house in Queens, NYC to a
hotel in Washington DC, and had all day to play with. My actual route was as
follows:

Subway to (site of) WTC
PATH to Newark
NJ Transit rail to Trenton
River Line light rail to Camden
Ferry to Philadelphia
SEPTA regional rail to Willow Grove
Capitol Trailways to York
Greyhound to Baltimore
Light rail to downtown
MARC to Washington DC
Metro to hotel

However, if I were doing the journey now, I could not in fact use the new bus
service in place of Greyhound (which costs nearly 3 times as much) because the
last journey leaves York 5 minutes before the arrival of my bus from Willow
Grove (and at a different terminal).

Incidentally, while the above was carefully planned in advance, I could have
improved on it by using SEPTA (bus) to King of Prussia, where the CT bus also
stopped, and by catching the Baltimore light rail to BWI airport which has a
direct bus link to the Washington Metro.

how to not get killed

Lotsa snow coming down this morning here in beautiful post-industrial
Cleveland, Ohio. I had a doc appt this morning at 8:30, so I was out there
bicycling in it for about 6 miles. The hardest part was enduring several
people who asked me, "So, how do ya keep from getting killed out there???"

I really just want to ask them, "How are you gonna stop me from strangling
you because I am so sick of that question?"

As usual, I engage with them and then it ruins my day. But I decided to try
a new tack with the sales clerk in the bagel store on my way home, and it
actually sorta worked! She agreed with me and didn't try any smart ass
retorts:

"It's actually not that hard, when over 40,000 people die every year in the
US alone in car crashes, and over a million have heart attacks. I decided I
didn't want to spend my life behind the wheel of a car, with my arteries
clogging up more by the second. I decided I wanted to enjoy my life and gave
up driving. Now I can really live!"
